  1. I was a DIE HARD feeder of Nutro for nearly 11 years- we currently have 8 shelties and one birman cat.

The condition of our dogs, be they show dogs or pets, is important to us in terms of overall well-being, coat condition, fitness, stool outlet etc.

For varying reasons we no longer feed Nutro and am happy to confirm that Black Hawk has been accepted by our canine, and feline, friends.

We are more than happy to promote Black Hawk, first and foremost for the quality of their ingredients, and for their pricing. :)

  2. We are hosting a Short Course Trial/Fun Day on 16 October 2011 the details of which are:

    Judge: Dave Sharp

Commences: 9.30 am. Please be at the venue NO later than 9.00 am.

    Cost: $10.00 per run.

Entries will be taken for Beginner, Novice and Open. All levels use the same course [Course design will be as per Judge’s Instructions].

For those who are not familiar with Short Course format it is similar to an A.N.KC. A course but without the cast or drive.

The Judge will brief competitors on the course requirements and a walk through the course will be conducted for competitors.

This is a FUNDAY - dogs will be graded relative to their experience, and previous events entered or won.

Time to complete each level is generally between 8-12 minutes, this will be decided by the Judge on the day according to level of experience of individual dogs.

With a short course trial a competitor starts with 100 points and points are deducted for e.g. not completing an obstacle. You are allowed to touch your dog but points will be deducted.

Teams event: If we have sufficient entries there will be a teams event. Two years ago we had a very successful “competition”, Border Collies vs Kelpies. The format for this will be decided on the day by the Judge.

Payment may be made on the day but if you are wanting to enter please PM your name, name of dog/s (call names) and level you wish to enter to me no later than 08 October. As this event is “in-house”, your dogs do not have to be registered with any Canine body.

Please note that we carry more than sufficient public liability insurance should anything un-toward happen.

  3. Am so sorry to hear about your sheep. :mad

I would have to say a wild dog attack. We lost 20 sheep in 2 separate attacks, they were in a paddock of about 4 acres, with x2 alpaca to guard them and general consensus was 6-8 wild dogs, alpaca didn't stand a chance and in an area that size the dogs ran the sheep down.

I have some pretty graphic photos of what happened to the sheep and will not share them here, as it would be too upsetting for many.

We have 40 acres and our boundary fences are now hot wired top and bottom, plus we have erected a night pen, a transportable shade shed, with six strands of hot wire, starting about 1" off the ground. The alpaca now go in at night with the sheep-we only have 30 sheep.

I would be concerned that you had your 140 sheep in a 2 acre paddock with 3 alpaca for 48 hours- one would expect a large number of dogs to get in to that small an area, without too much room to run the sheep down and play with them.

If for any reason we leave the stock in a small area at night (max 60x90) we make sure the alpaca are there with them plus a horse.

  4. TLC, two of mine, who we don't show, are a little portly  They stacked on the weight when we had them on a home-made diet which included pasta :mad

Have had them both on Science R/D, but absolutely HATE HILLS. Have cut back their daily intake on BH and hope that will help.

  5. PLEASE, PRETTY PLEASE, again, stop all the bitchiness, you know who you are, QUIT posting AD INFINITIM, and let Nature take it's course.

NONE of my 4 legged one's, be they dog, or cat, ever had stinky stool problems on Nutro.

BH's ingredients are very similar to Nutro. One of the reasons we switched to BH was the price differential. Having said that I truly believe now after 6 months of feeding BH (to nearly 10 years of Nutro - so that's a huge difference) that we are on to an awesome product. Our dogs, and one cat, love it, they are all doing very well, and 3 of my dogs have to be in tip top condition as are being shown.

I would be more than happy to recommend BH to anyone and hope that their dogs do as well on it as mine are. :) :D

  6. OSoSwift, we have been feeding BH to our 2 1/2 yeard old Birman for a couple of months. I am too lazy to go out to our grannyflat (where he sleeps and where the food is stored) to read the bag, but he absolutely wolfs it down. It has an ingredient in it which helps with the hair balls.

Prior to starting him on BH he was on Nutro.

As with the BH dog food we are happy with his overall condition and his eating it with such gusto speaks for its-self. When we changed him over we didn't ask for a sample, just gave to him with the hope he'd eat it. :D

  7. Is it possible to drop all the bitchiness and get back to talking about Black Hawk as a dog/cat food, with feedback from those who are feeding Black Hawk.

Collies02, if you feel it is warranted you could always make Troy aware of the abuse which you have received from DOL members. As far as I am aware Troy will simply not put up with that sort of behaviour :) and after all he owns the website. :D

  8. Hang on, W.TF. has been going on here :mad Do I gather that, Collies02 a.k.a. Sherel and APFE, BH have been receiving abusive emails, PM's and phone calls?. I SINCERELY hope that DOL members are NOT the GUILTY parties here, if so then SHAME on you. What gives us as members of the DOL community the right to abuse anyone. We are all here as Dog (and in general animal) lovers to help each other out.

Can I ask those guilty of such a "crime", how many other manufacturers of dog food have you contacted and personally abused?. I trust that you have had a satisfactory answer from them?, especially the multi-national corporations who probably don't give a hoot about your opinion. ;)

If your dogs are doing well on Black Hawk, in the large scheme, does it really matter who is making it?.

Sherel, I hope you continue to participate in this thread. :) As you know we have been feeding BH for the last six months. We were die hard Nutro feeders for many years (and have tried a couple of other dried products and a home made diet).

We are EXTREMELY happy with the overall condition of our dogs in all respects and will continue to feed BH.

B.T.W our Birman cat is now on BH as well and wolf's it down. :)

  9. PLEASE, any queries re payments, order numbers etc etc MUST go to MBDA Pacers.

Where does the order number show up? I'm not a registered member of Pacers and last time when I paid for the DOL Cookbook my payment went through as a donation rather than payment for the book so I had to get Steve to chase it up when everyone else got their books and mine didn't arrive (because I had no order number).

If someone can clear this up for me I'll pop my payment through.

  10. Just Andrea, you will need to contact MDBA Pacers. The postge will probaby not be an additional $7.00 for the extra book. MDBA Pacres have to account for all monies received and can't just take your say so here on DOL that you are making a donation of any extras.

PLEASE EVERYONE CAN YOU FOLLOW THE FIRST POST MADE WHICH ASKS YOU TO CONTACT MDBA PACERS RE THE COST OF POSTAGE ON EXTRA BOOKS.
