I lurk on DOL and only post when I feel the need........or its late at night and I can't sleep. I am entering this so I can see Troy in a bikini....... and given I am not sure where I will be ( I travel alot) if I win I will be forced to stay and attend

I go away for work all the time and I have three large dogs. And my dogs adore each other. But I let my first dog choose the others. I am always happy when I am away cause I know my three have each other.

I adore Blue tounge lizards....they are the sweetest animals. The worst they could do to a dog is give a very gummy bite....no blood. I have been bitten lots cause I had them as pets when I was a kid. I used to carry mine around ...often in my pocket ;) No long term issues with a bite.... just a bit of bruising. They eat eggs, cockroaches and bananas. Look after them....they are delightful to watch.

Just a quick comment here. I was involved in a recent rescue where the dog was all skin and bones. We wanted to wait until we have fattened her up before she was desexed and it was expected to take 3 months. We found a new family who are perfect, and they wanted her. They offered to take her and once she was fat enough have her desexed at their cost. We did discuss it. It would have meant a new family taking in a sick starved dog and feeding her up before desexing. One option was to sign the family up as carers and then once she was well, go ahead with the adoption. In the end we decided to hang onto her in rescue and then send her to the family after desexing, as she gained weight faster than predicted. Its never black and white......sometimes issues are grey. ps. i am sorry that you feel under attack at DOL. Sometimes people express themselves badly in writing......... hang around...there is a lot of good stuff here.

I think that this has gone a little off topic but I will try and answer the questions I have experience as a rescuer and as an owner. My first pound dog was sold as desexed as she had a scar that might have been from surgery but my vet and I were not convinced as the scar was not quite right. This was back in 1986. We decided to operate and she was NOT desexed. She was my baby for the next 14 years til she died and I am glad that I made sure that she never became a mum. I have been involved in rescue for over seven years. I have learnt that many people who buy dogs from rescue often tell you they will do stuff but never do. I would not trust the average person to check and see if the dog came into season. Its not worth the risk. If possible I would prefer that the dog undergo a non invasive process but that is not always available. In Rescue, sometimes the choices are not ideal but I would always do everything to ensure that a dog left rescue desexed. We don't need more puppies.

Move to NSW. We have no limits here. And I have found that my three big dogs (Rotties and Dane) make less noise than the single Chi that lives across the road :D I did have 12 when I was doing rescue......... and Council knew. They joked with me that I would become the local mad dog lady eventually.......
