  1. The thing many people don't understand is that dogs don't have developed taste buds like ours...they eat to live and not live to eat. It is more likely that he was holding out for the texture than the taste.
  2. I'm going to buck the trend and suggest you seek legal advice. Whilst on the surface, you have nothing to worry about, the argument could be that there was a pre-existing condition that was not disclosed to the purchaser. Do you have vet records showing that the dog has been seen by a vet at various times during your ownership and that it was healthy, vaccinated etc? If so, be sure you get these. I would imagine that a letter from your own legal representation would be enough to convince the purchaser to provide full autopsy results. If only because it is then apparent that you don't mean to take the situation lightly. At least, I would at have a lawyer write them a "please explain" requesting all relevant information so that you can seek full legal advice of your own. That may be enough to have them back off.
  3. I use Vit E capsules. Prick the ends and squeeze the stuff out of the middle.
  4. My offer is now withdrawn lest I offend people who assume that I wish to profit from this situation.
  5. FFS Greytmate, I would never have figured you to be so deliberately stupid, obtuse or whatever it is that you are being. OK, my offer is withdrawn, happy now? Apparently you know more about me and my motives and intentions than I do. I hope the poor girl is healthy and that the rest of her pregnancy is trouble free and that whomever whelps the litter and DISPOSES of the puppies meets with your esteemed approval. NOBODY was talking about breaking laws or stepping on toes. All I was offering was a solution, temporary or otherwise and a means of getting a healthy outcome if possible for bitch and pups. I couldn't have cared less if the bitch was sent to me for whelping and then she and the pups were sent back to wherever.....the prospect of money was never in my thoughts.....although apparently according to you, it was paramount. No wonder people are reluctant to step up to the plate. I sure as hell won't make the same mistake again.
  6. I am appalled that people think it is ok to sell a dog that doesn't belong to them. Regardless of motive. I'm still wondering where anybody said anything about selling a dog? You plan to sell the pups. They are not yours to sell. Er.....do I? I state again....where have I stated that pups would be SOLD. Placed is NOT sold. Sold is sold. Placed is placed. You are making an awful lot of assumptions.

  8. Thanks Oakway but it would seem that Greytmate has knowledge about me and my motives that I don't know about myself! There are always dogs available for rescue, but bitches in whelp do require special care which I do believe I am qualified for. But never mind, I won't bother offering again. I'll just go and pat my GAP greyhound and remind him how lucky he is that I took him on with profit in mind!
  9. No wonder people don't want to help if this is how they are treated. My offer still stands, no matter how distasteful it may seem to you. I'm sure others will see it in the spirit in which it has been offered.
  10. Wouldn't matter to me if she were 8 months or 8 years, my offer would STILL stand. The assumption that money motivates my offer is somewhat distatsteful to me. Perhaps read my offer again. I mention PLACING puppies....not SELLING puppies. I also mention giving the girl a forever home if she fits in here.....finding her a forever home if she doesn't. Nowhere is money mentioned.
  11. Lots of coulds and shoulds, but will they happen? Regardless, my offer still stands.
  12. Personally all of my puppies are fed by demand, not weight and at that age, would still be getting at least two meals per day. I prefer to feed at least twice daily until around 12 months but do find that some puppies will start regularly refusing one of the meals by around 9 - 10 months per day. At this stage, I'm generally feeding almost the equivalent of a meal in training treats spread through the day anyway so provided there is no major weight loss, you might be guided by this. As far as holding the leftovers from a meal over to the next meal, because I usually feed the same at all meals, it doesn't really apply to me, but if you are finding that the puppy is refusing one kind of food in favour of another....then in order to ensure that it eats well at all meals, I'd either stop offering the yummier stuff that is leftover, or alternatively split it so that it gets the same at all meals. But that's just me....others would probably do differently.
  13. Healthy dogs won't normally starve themselves so don't worry about taking the kibble away after the 15 minutes. If he is going to be inclined towards finicky eating, leaving the kibble down will only encourage this. He'll quickly learn that if he doesn't eat it, he won't get the chance until his next meal so if he IS hungry, he'll clean his plate.
  14. Well, if there is any way of getting her down here to me, I will take her, rear her puppies and place them in good homes. Depending upon how she fits in here with my other dogs, she could well have a home here for life. If not, I will undertake to find her the best possible forever home as well.
  15. Sharon, if it's loose, you may find that putting on a pair of rubber gloves and running your hands firmly over it will help to dislodge it. Definitely worked on Woger!
  16. Poor baby, I'd take her in a heartbeat if she were here in Tassie.

  18. But I'm not far wrong am I? Just nod your head, you don't need to say anything!
  19. From the deffinitions section of the Dogs qld rule book, I new I'd seen it somewhere. “Exhibition” includes any Championship Show, Open Show, Parade, Endurance Test, Earthdog Test, Field Trial, Obedience Trial, Obedience Sweepstake, Tracking Trial, Agility Trial, Herding Trial, Dances with Dogs, Flyball, Puppy Match or Training event, assessment event or any other canine activity approved by the CCC(Q). Good luck with that. Generally anything that is decreed by the CCC(Q) is different to every other State in Australia. For some reason the CCC(Q) and Vic Dogs think that they ALWAYS have to be different to every other state controlling body.
  20. Not sure where you can buy them ready made, but I'm currently braiding one for somebody.
  21. The same risks apply to any animal with a white base coat. Do you suggest that none of them be allowed to be bred from or sold either? ;)
  22. FWIW, I do agree and I cull where *I* think necessary. BUT....on the flipside....who are YOU to decree that others wouldn't do the same as you or feel the same way that you do? Provided full disclosure is given at the time of sale, the onus is on the purchaser to take responsibility. I feel sure that most reputable and responsible dog breeders would screen their purchasers to ensure the best outcome for all.
  23. Good luck getting a definition. Remember that was part of the issue surrounding the debarking. Nobody was entirely sure EXACTLY what constituted the word "exhibition".
  24. I have shown bitches at 5 or 6 weeks in whelp, simply because I didn't know that they WERE in whelp. Except for one occasion when the bitch had had ongoing temperament issues in the ring and was shown at 5 weeks in whelp...don't know if it was the hormones or what but she turned a major corner that day and was barking at the judge for bait and animating all over the place....she won RUBIG. Not showing bitches for 10 weeks after is a bit of a scary one though...talk about Big Brother walking in wearing jackboots. I've seen bitches at 8 weeks look simply sensational and win Specialty shows and yes, I agree with other posters....what if all puppies from the litter are lost or the bitch absorbs the litter? Bit unfair in that case.
