  2. Hi, I don't know if I should start this on a new thread as it is the along the same line that I am writing this but I have a GSD. She has had runny mucousy poo a few times in recent months and it usually happens after I give her a treat e.g raw bones and raw mince meat. She never had problems when she was younger with these treats but as she grows older (now 13.5 years) I find that she more intolerant of certain foods. Occasionally I would give her a little bit of sardine with her dry food and she was ok with this. She has been on a strict diet on Eukanuba for seniors for more than a year now. However this week, although she had not even had a treat, she had mucousy poo again ( i don't see any blood) on and off like one day she was ok and then the following day horrible slushy mucousy poo. I can't hear her tummy grumbling, she is alert and playful, her coat and eyes are shiny. I think she might be drinking a bit more water than usual. Reading the above threads, I was wondering if I should change her diet and give her chicken and rice, yoghurt? What type of chicken meat should I get and from the supermarket or from the pet shop? Should I give the chicken in raw form or cooked? And what the yoghurt, isn't this considered as dairy? Hope you DOLers can help me. Thanks!
  3. Hi Melo, it's frustrating when you can't be sure what the problem is. My GSD has the same problem too with her right hind leg. She doesn't put weight on it whilst she is standing, but is happy to trot and run using her bad leg. She has no problems getting up and down the stairs, and up onto her couch. After a visit to the vet and x-ray, she reckon that it was ostersarcoma (I started a thread on this a couple of days ago). I was referred to a specialist and he said he is 80% sure that my GSD has cancer and only had months to live. There and then he said to book her in in two days time to amputate her leg and half her hip. I was so distraught and my husband had further discussions with the specialist, and the specialist decided to do a a full blood work and take another set of x-rays. This time he said that my GSD condition didn't seem as bad as he first thought. Could you believe this? I am really annoyed with the specialist for being so hasty in his diagnosis. It took me weeks to get over the thought of my GSD leaving me. I had her since she was 8 weeks old. She is 13 now. I also felt that I was a bad mum, and maybe still am for letting my GSD enduring this problem, but my husband says, just take one look at her and you'll know that she is happy as larry (a photo of her is in my thread). Just enjoy your time with her.
  4. Hi everyone, am quite new here and really glad I found some "friends" if I may put it that way. I have a 13 years old GSD but behaves like she is 2 and still look like she is only 8. I got home today and found her in the corner of our bedroom throwing up. She has also pooed and vomitted all over the floor downstairs and upstairs. Poor thing! She must be so distressed. She has quite a sensitive tummy, as she gets older. She used to be able to handle biscuits, bones, little bit of milk, cheese and chocolate (she absolutely goes crazy over them, she once found a box of Roses and ate the whole lot but spat out the wrapper) but now, anything out of the ordinary is a disaster. I tried to work out what doesn't agree with her, but this comes with trial and error (more like disaster) so I try not give not to give her any snacks, even bones does not agree with her. Her runny poo is also mucousy like a film over it. I just worked out what happen to her, two days ago I bought her one of those "busy bones" by Purina from the supermarket, she ate half of it. The next day she wasn't herself, couldn't lie still, and even when she did she won't put her head down. I reached out for the forum, and thought that she is just depressed. But she was eating well, walking fine, poo was normal. Yesterday, her poo started to get a bit runny and she was still "depressed". Middle of the night, she needed to go. Then today, BIG disaster. So we put it down to that bone. She's better now, but if this still goes on the next day or two, we will be taking her to the vet. BTW, any tips on cleaning vomit/poo and disinfecting of a very light coloured grey carpet? I use vinegar diluted in the warm water, loads of paper towel to dab and get excess moisture out, then pour salt and bicarb, let it dry and then vacumn. If there is a better method, would appreciate your advise.
