Does anyone know the fellow who goes up the middle of NSW

my friend seems to think his name is Justin or Jason

would be much appreciated, a bloke down in Mildura wants a coolie pup and it needs to get from Gunnedah to there

I'm really getting excited - now to get that excitement tuned into getting Mocha somewhat trained so he doesn't disgrace us both in the ring :laugh:

How will I meet up with you guys? If you see a large person wandering around with a little griffon - that's me! In fact my mentor unknown to me before is going so I now have two places to sit thanks to Rysup's kind offer :D

one word of advice

crate, crate, crate :laugh:

puppy to eat, sleep and put in it for down time

also make sure that the pup has been quarantined and not carrying any nasties

Drugs can sometimes make them more stressed too (depending on the type) because they feel confused or wobbly.

try first with drugs to see how your dog reacts

I had to do something with my golden, he hates storms too and reacts as bianca.a's dog does but he also became very agressive towards the other dogs. I got some drugs from the vet, having tried them i know how many to give them, they take the edge off him, and whilst he is still is a bit stressed he is not agressive, more he follows me around but not as frantically as he did

It's funny how dogs react in storms - my mum's cavalier is petrified of them and whilst she is a very clingy follow everywhere dog in storms she is the exact opposite, rushes outside, barks and barks and won't come when called where as Onsy my boy is a more independant fellow normally but in storms becomes Mr Cling-on and tries to climb on my lap at 42 kgs it's a bit difficult!

and she also thought about trying a greyhound program rather than doing what Pav Lova mentioned in her post

as sad as it is and I do feel very sorry for the greyhound, a very humane way for the greyhound to pass

Armidale Pound are pretty good about helping dogs safe into rescue

eta the RSPCA also has foster carers for dogs as well

Fostering a coolie x, it was winter so pretty well dark when I came home from work and didn't really look in the yard in the morning - went out on the weekend to find it littered with my underwear that the coolie x had stolen

not a problem except the older bloke next door was always leaning over the fence talking to my dogs when he got home from work each day at 3 pm :laugh:

Tilly loves socks and teatowels, I bought some new tea towels and was putting them in the washing machine and she was positively drooling as she tried to grab them :laugh:

I looked in Latte's crate the other day and she had about 10 plastic bottles in there :laugh:

Griffs are pretty tiny though, aren't they?

yes they are small, my boy weighs less than 5 kgs but he is a tough little critter and a sturdy build. My friend who has pomeranians won't let hers on the couch because she says they will break their leg if they jump off - I have no concern with that with my griffon, he jumps up and down off with no problems.

as I said his best mate is a tall coolie and they rumble and chase each other - he certainly doesn't show any signs of being tiny or fragile then - he gives as good as he gets.

when i was thinking of getting a show dog I thought hard and long about what to get as I did want to get a little dog - i have four other dogs, two goldens and two coolies so I needed a "tough" dog - the griffon ended up ticking all boxes - my griffon breeder also breeds golden retreivers and finds the two breeds are a good combination.

Naturally I don't leave my small dog with my larger dogs unless I am around and I think the situation that OP was talking about is the same

The griffon bruxellois are ratters though? So high prey drive?

yes they were bred for ratters but my boy definitely doesn't have high prey drive.

He lives with cats quite amicably and does not chase them at all, in fact my birman is quite horrible to him and he does nothing back

there are cattle and horses in the paddock next door - his favourite coolie whom he generally follows everywhere will often go into that paddock to look at them, he never does, just wanders away elsewhere, hasn't shown any interest

He never chases birds although again his favourite coolie does

our yard only has paddock fences and he has never wandered off at all

the breeder's griffons are the same so I don't think i got a broken one :-)

eta that I was writing when Nevafollo posted so confirmed griffons are not high drive, her mother's griffon is just to die for :)

have a look at a griffon bruxellois - a smooth coat may suit you best

my griffon fits perfectly into my home with my own 4 other dogs - 2 coolies and 2 golden retrievers and 3 cats. We presently live on a property that has masses of coolies and he has a great time playing with everyone, very friendly dog to humans as well, very energetic and in fact can almost run as fast as the coolies but likes nothing better than to sit on your lap for a snuggle at night time. He is respectful of the other dogs and taught himself to stay well clear of cattle and horses in the nearby paddock so sensible.

One thing to be careful about is the fact being a flat nosed breed. But I live in what should be a hot climate (this summer is a bit different), whilst I'm at work he is inside in air conditioning anyway and on the weekends he wants to be running outside but I do bring him in in the heat of the day and put him in his crate with the air conditioning on

great little dogs, not well known but should be - there may be a waiting list for one as litters tend to be small, I just happened to be at the right spot at the right time and said the right thing when I got my Mocha. I've been waiting for ages for my second and hopefully the bitch is pregnant.

I did it my Ozentries so hope i did it right

and I picked his class as puppy - according to the Ozentry site if I picked the wrong class it wouldn't have let me enter

Look forward to seeing you there - the only dampner is if my girl decides to come into season and I need to take her to Singleton to her "husband" but she hasn't come in yet so i think i will be safe :)

PS: The Ozentries are saying it closes the 10th so not sure if you can change that or not :)

I was going to try and find it again tomorrow and ask if I could enter late but now I don't have to!

mind you he hasn't been to a show since October (i'll have to work out also what class he is in now he was a baby puppy at his last show - born 17 April, 2011 if anyone can let me know), he now lives on acres and acres and runs with working dogs all the time so he has turned absolutely feral :laugh: I have no idea whether he remembers how to stack, how to walk on a lead :laugh: I still have a few days left to practice :laugh:

I have never been to a show before without my mentor who also provides me with shade from her gazebo

I don't have a gazebo yet

Is there heaps of shade that I can sit under or is there a very kind DOLer going who would be willing to let me share her/his gazebo? I only have one dog who is small and has a very small crate, he is a griffon so the worry is he can't get too hot

When my beloved Poppy died I planted a rosemary bush in her memory. I planted it at my parents house where it flourished until the yard was landscaped and it was moved. Sadly it didn't take kindly to the move but I'm hoping that it will revive. My parents own Kyra, who was Poppy's full sister from the next litter, she is very elderly and not doing that well so I just feel it is an omen

I joined up as an associate member as I am only at this stage showing my boy and any future dogs I may get.

Further down the track I will change to full membership if I want to breed but for now associate membership is fine

I grew up with dogs. We had a daschund. Then when I was 9 we got a shetland sheepdog and then when 10 I got my shetland sheepdog. My mum was really strict, they were our dogs, we looked after them - walking them, feeding them, grooming them, training them. We took both dogs to the local obedience club where my older sister by 2 years excelled with her sheltie. They were totally our responsibility within our limits as children (i.e. of course we couldn't take them to the vets)

Ons, Tilly and flash are in a pen under the house

Latte is in a covered pen out the back with some of my housemate's coolies unless it is raining and then her pen is needed for the coolies that would be in an outside pen normally so she is crated inside

Mocha is crated inside with the air conditioning on

all seem happy with the arrangement

I'm looking at those photos (and ignoring the mess of the backyard) and thinking she doesn't look very golden retreiver like! But certainly is, very dark colour, too much white on her though which is a fault in the show ring hence the reason she ended up being pet homed to me :D

My Tildy at 8 weeks old,the day I brought her home. She is on the smaller size of a golden retreiver height wise, about 22 inches tall now at nearly 6 years old

and with her bigger brother (who is huge) she probably was about 10 weeks in this photo

my sister has a border collie which she got when my niece was about 9. My niece absolutely adores Cody and still does at 17. She taught him so many things including taking him for walks whilst she was on her skateboard (probably not recommended) so she went extra fast.

So I would think, provided that hte family are prepared to put lots of effort and know how active a border collie both physically and mentally it would be a good dog for the family. My sister has a very small yard but she has horses she visits each day so with the activity at hte horses, my niece's walks and general ball throwing he gets lots of exercise

Coolies are better though :laugh:
