  1. I have just witnessed an accidental tie with my girl and boy - not planned at the moment - my girl came into season about 7 weeks early - another of my girls was in and guess it must have brought her in early and so if pups eventuate it will be about 6 weeks short of the 2 litters only in 18 months.

Have heard horror stories about terminating and don't want to go down this path but don't want to not register the pups either - pretty sure there will be pups never missed before with this pair. Its all a bit of a drama to me - not the puppies but don't want to get into a lot of trouble with the CCCQ Dogs Qld - it happened once to me before a few years ago and they let me register the pups but gave me a bit of a chastising in a letter - will they be reasonalble a second time or not - will ring them and see what they say but wondered if anyone else has had this happen was so careful but with the silly season and all it only took a minute of inattention and a wilful girl who managed to get over the barrier and not forgetting a more than willing boy ofcourse. My girl is in excellend health and hasn't stopped smiling and wagging her tail since it happened. Wish I was as happy about it.

If your bitch is a good producer then I would not stuff up her hormone cycle by terminating.

Have the puppies. Hopefully you can register them. For sure you can find good homes for them.

Good luck, it's not the end of the world and ignore all the tsk tskers

    :flower:

Thanks lilli you have helped cheer me up as have some others my girl is sitting at my feet now so contented and if she does have pups and they all have to be just pets so be it there will be some happy people out there from it all. Sometimes things happen for a reason so will just accept it and get on with it. Only yesterday had an enquiry from a man very much wanting a mini but told him none to late next year - maybe not.

Be upfront and honest, thats all you can do and in real terms you know whats best for your girl and I am sure no KC would ever question the protection of ones own dog ( whatever the reason!) Good luck in what you decide, Ill watch for you in the litters! lol

If it were me I would be contacting the Qld KC and explaining what had happened, afterall she may not be in pup. Even if I had to pet out every pup if it was born, I would not be using the abort injection, I have heard some horror storries of bitches who could not get back in pup. good luck, but I say be upfront and seek the KC advice.

  3. Can anyone tell me about missing teeth, please?

The Xoloitzcuintle standrad allows for missing or incomplete dentition, funny thing is the the Chinese Crested ( another hairless breed) standard makes no note of missing teeth in the standard ( all true hairless dogs have incomplete dentition) BUT they dont appear to be non awarded as they have missing dentition, ie not in the standard!!

    CC MOUTH

Jaws strong, with perfect, regular scissor bite, i.e. the upper teeth closely overlapping the lower teeth and set square to the jaws.

    Xolo mouth

Hairless Xoloitzcuintle: Strong jaws. The incisors should close perfectly in a scissor bite with the

superior incisors overlapping; the interior surface of the superior incisors touching the external

surface of the lower incisors, squaring the jaw. A level bite, edge to edge, is also permitted. The

absence of a few incisors, canines, molars, pre-molars or rotated teeth should not be penalized, as

many dogs do not have deep roots. Genetically, the absence of hair is closely linked to the

    absence of teeth.

I would suspect most standards require full dentition ??

  4. Thanks everybody for your recommendations, i really like the look of Natural Paws (massive exercise yards compared to many other which they say the dogs have access to for most of the day), and reasonably priced too :) Like i said, not being able to physically check the kennels out myself makes it difficult to choose so recommendations from people who really care about their dogs really helps :)

I can vouch for natural Paws, and as well the owner is a Black Hawk distributor ( Great food!)

  5. I've often wondered about this. I picked up a bitch from the local handy trader as a bit of a rescue and she's a lovely bitch except that she broke her leg when she was younger and reset wasn't a particularly good job. I've never considered showing her, as while she doesn't exactly hobble around, I don't think she moves quite right.

While scars are of no importance, sound movement is vital, so a broken leg that hasn't healed well enough for the dog to move correctly would put them out of the ring. Show dogs should be judged on breed type, correct construction and therefore movement and temperament. In most breeds cosmetic imperfections should be way down the list of importance.

wouldnt it be nice IF they were down the list ( cosmetic imperfections!!) But then again its each Judges opinion on the day, we had a Xolo in Europe very good example with 1 ear surgically removed, I see a lot of dogs scared that are good examples, but I see a lot who dont have their skin looked after which I find totally unacceptable in the Xolo breed

  6. A missing eye could be from something like glaucoma so would not be permitted but scars and the odd chunk out are fine. I knew a top winning dog who was missing half an ear where his over zealous dam chewed it off while cleaning him after he was born. A few judges objected to it but most didn't care. It was the off show side ear do wasn't immediately noticable. I also know of two Grand Champions who finished their points with a toe missing from surgery for bone infections. Missing teeth are also fine in many breeds if you can clearly see the gap where they used to be.

In the Xoloitzcuintle standard it is written that scars and notches ( ears) should not be penalised, I know of a Chinese Crested dog that was shown with many wins with one eye.

  7. Because current legislation states a MANDATORY min 30 day quarantine from all countries.

The 180 days only applies to Cat 4 countries.

Cat 2 countries have 30 days and no RNATT requirements.

Cat 3 have mandatory 60 days at present.

The 30 days gives AUSTRALIA the opportunity to identify any signs of illness that may not have shown yet. O/S vet services aren't always correct.

There are a number of animals that arrive with health certs from overseas saying no sign of any disease, no external parasites present etc that turn up sick, covered in ticks, (so blood testing for Ehrlichia is then void) and then need retesting.

Some turn up with incorrect blood tests, positive blood results even though the vet O/S has said it meets the permit requirements. These dogs get sent back and have to do the whole thing again.

Some even have incorrect microchip numbers that no pre vet checks have checked correctly so imagine if Australia just believed the o/s export process - disaster

disasterso true, look at what happened when EI arrived in Eastern Creek, that didnt stay contained for long

Be thankful in a way you dont have a breed that has the dogs you want in Cat 6 Countries ( ie Mexico, SA is another) you cant import dogs from these countries, they have to go to a Cat 4 country first and then the process starts, I notice a lot of UK imports have stopped now with that and a few other eiropean countires being made Cat 4 now. The prices of transport have jumped a mighty way in the last 15 months as well.

  8. I have just come up with a thought.

Yes, we have been informed the we "may" only have to do ten days quarantine this end, but what if the dogs has to do 170 days in the country of export. That means the dog will still be doing 180 days from the time the blood is drawn.

No one has said the time required from the blood drawing has been changed. We have only been informed that the stay this end may be reduced.

Now don't get mad with me it was just a thought. :)

Yes this is true, but as most people get upset with the import time here in Australia, its better for the dogs in most countries as they can home quarantine, sorry i should have mentioned it, I thought it was clear cut.

Quarantine didnt bother my dogs here, it was the overall time away from exposure that did.

  9. Just on another side line Thank you for doing that little phonetic break down on how to pronounce your breed name it has had me stumped for a while now, so now I will be able to finally say it correctly (I hope)

    Xoloitzcuintle

thank you Zeebie, its still exciting for me when people go ... thats a X dog or try the name, I am very happy when people know what it is, the saying part just takes practice, we say Show Lo ( Xolo) so far a well known Judge and canberaa lady has the best pronunciation ( its not right and very rude) she even somehow managed to get the Sydney Royal Show people to say it in the loud speaker last year! I had to dubb my video!

I saw a photo on Facebook of a coated Xolo the other night.....lovely looking dogs, the lot of them! :)

  11. I will need to do it from home as I can't access YouTube on my work computer :p

I am guessing you mean the one with the two horses in together? Gotta love doing a Pas De Deux in competition with the two horses never having worked together before (I was a last minute fill in). Good thing they love each other

Thats the one, excellent in my eyes, but why were there rump covers on the horses? is their a reason, in the UK we used them to keep warmth in

  12. what an interesting breed, I hope one day you can get Recognition here eventually, ;let me know if I can help at all, have a long history of new breeds and chatting with people, now they do not need a prefix to enter the show world just the Int Peds and the COO acceptance.,

  13. Things seem to have been very quiet on here at the moment. Not just in the WA thread but others as well.

Nothing much to report from me though other than I have stupidly entered shows on both days this weekend  It always seems like a good idea at the time :o At least they are holding neuter classes

Mirawee share your lovely video clip, I enjoyed it a lot! The horse dressage one( Sorry not sure of the correct name )

  14. Dog News Australia wrote July 2013, no date. My apologies. I couldn't see anything so specific on the DAFF site but it might just be me.

I saw them do that and I asked them if they had an official source and didn't get a reply. Even if their sources are good, and who knows, maybe they have a mate in the Minister's Office, I would still hate to see people start planning on the basis of that date and it turn out not to be correct. I don't work for DAFF btw, but I am a public servant and know how this kind of thing can change overnight.

Yeah it was bad form of DNA to post a date with no official basis to go off. I just would hate for someone to prepare a dog thinking things were going to change when it might not.

There must be something in the air beacuse thats when I was told as well, mmmmmmmmmmmm

  15. Thanks Guys for the confirmation. A bit of a bummer as having a giant breed, the pup is going to cost a fortune to freight :( I think I will have to go back to the original option of importing semen.

    Cheers

its about $5000 for a 10 kilo dog ( with paperwork all done for you ATM) its gone up a lot with the carrier i use, but shop around, I just have a favourite that knows me and my wants and needs
