Why are you thinking of clipping? Cavaliers have such a pretty coat. They are not hard to keep looking nice. I’ve always prided myself on my girls being well groomed and pretty. Unfortunately due to health problems keeping four Cavs and a Finnish Lapphund well groomed I have caved and done some clipping. It made me rather sad though! I’ve left their beautiful ears and tails. When I worked in a salon it was so upsetting when people would bring their Cavs in and ask for them to be clipped right off to look like a beagle.
Desexing does alter coats with a lot of Cavs, though not all.

Yes I’d talk to your daughter and involve her in the vet visit. It does sound like he needs to be seen. Good luck!

You wouldn't remember, Gretel, but I signed up to DOL shortly after our Papillon passed away and you were so very kind and had a piece of the puzzle that helped me locate his breeder. Sadly she too had passed away a month prior, but I will always remember your kindness to me when I was hurting. Malcolm and I send our love back to you at this time when you are hurting.
Thank you I'm glad I was of some help to you.

Gretel I am so sorry to hear that your precious girl has gone to the she is free now to play with our precious ones already there.
To you as I know what a difficult time it is for you.
Thank you It's so lovely when people understand.
My hubby has said many years ago he might have thought, "it's just a dog". But he loves them as much as me now and understands they are so much more!

So sorry to hear of your loss. It certainly is a tough decision but we know when the time is right. Take care. My thoughts are with you.
Thank you, she was a little dog with a very big personality! And she's left a big hole in our family.

Thank you. Still at the stage I can't think of her without crying.

I should have updated this thread. We had to put Ingrid to sleep a few months ago. She went downhill fast and wasn't interested in food. It was time. Never an easy decision to make though and there have been many tears. She was such a tough little girl. RIP darling girl.

I was surprised to read a post on fb this morning posted by Vineyard Vet about snakebites. They didn't say anything about bandaging and did say not to apply pressure.

We went through this with Ingrid. As she got older she was slipping and getting getting frightened. We had wall to wall mats by the end. I thought of trying the socks but I think they would have freaked her out. Vet bed with rubber backing is great for the floors. We also had rubber mats from Bunnings.

How is Ingrid going ? ( and you )
Hi, thanks for asking. I thought her time had come but we've upped her pain meds and added cortisone and she's rallied. She's amazing. I know she can't be this good for long but I'm enjoying it. She even chased a toy the other day!

Oh my how scary! So glad she rallied!
I have a 15 year old who I know won't be with me much longer. I feel so upset when she's having a not so good day.

Have you seen the parents in the flesh ? Do they have pedigree papers ? Cheap doesn't mean good . Have you checked what health issues the breed is prone to and parents are clear of them ?
Yes a cheap puppy can end up costing a lot in vet bills.

Totally understand Gretel. It's not nice. We said goodbye to my baby girl on Monday but whenever she had bad days I would always get upset too. I hated what was happening to her.
Now I'm just constantly upset and it hurts real bad. Miss my little girl.
I'm so sorry

Hey Tassie. Glad to hear Kirra is still doing ok. Hopefully you will get a lot more time with her. Hurts too much when they leave.
I hope your little Ingrid continues to have good days too Gretel
Thanks. She's had a couple of good days but then yesterday wasn't a good one. I got so upset.

Tough times for you Gretel And you're so right .. 15 years is a blessing , but never long enough. My BC girl Kirra has been showing blood test results of kidney failure for 18 months ..progressing slowly. But now we're dealing with lymphoma. So far, thanks to cortisone, she's doing OK .. but getting weaker. She's lost a kilo in a week and a half, partly because of cutting out carbs. She's still eating well, taking her meds, and happy to do little bits of 'training' to join in with the boy. I'm blessed in that I can be with her or have her with me all day. But it's going to be tough. H ugs to you and your little Ingrid.
Thanks Tassie. It's so hard watching them fade. I feel for you.

Know where you're coming from. I'm currently dealing with a sick little girl who has never shown pain. Some are just too tough for their own good.
Best wishes to you
Thanks. I hope you're doing okay too.
Shes had a good day today. Shes on pain meds and her spirits are pretty good.

Can you avoid him by going to the other side of the road? I certainly wouldn't try to push him back. No idea about the legality but I'd be concerned he'd grab you!

Thanks no it's never long enough. She's such a tough little dog. I think she's hiding some of her suffering. Time for a vet visit.

Ingrid is 15 and was diagnosed with chronic kidney failure nearly two years ago. She's been on hills kd diet and done well. She wasn't too well over the weekend and today I've realised she smells terrible. After googling I realise it's probably uremia and I think we're near the end now. When she was first diagnosed I didn't think she'd last this long so I should be grateful but I'm still heartbroken.
-
Yes they do have health issues but then what breed doesn't? I have a girl here who is over 15 and has had a good long life. She won't be with us much longer unfortunately as her kidneys are failing. I've also lost some way too young from heart disease.
They are a lovely breed to live with, intelligent, happy and friendly and pretty of course! Find a reputable breeder and ask lots of questions. I used to breed but now just have an aging household apart from a lovely young girl I show on occasion.

I'm very happy with the Kuranda bed I bought years ago

Yes I use Chinese containers too but they are brittle.

Cav grooming

Not all coats go woolly after desexing. Many do though. Cavs are such a lovely size that you can groom them on your lap or the lounge. I often brush and comb ears watching tellie.
