Umbilical Hernia

 Share

Recommended Posts

3mth old pup I know has one and its quiet large. (Large grape size i guess)

Is there any treatment for this or does it just go away?

(Small breed dog also)

Unless you can push it in & out easily, then you can just ignore it, is only a bit of fat. Many Vets want to fix them during desexing, but it isnt necessary, just your personal choice

May I please ask where the hernia is? Is it near the navel or is it in the groin area.

If it is in the groin area it would be wise to have it checked. If it is in the navel area

and not large and not causing problems, just ask the vet to check next time you have a visit.

I have just spoken to my vet in regards to umbilical hernias and she stated that the new thinking on them was to keep a watch on them for 6 months as most are now believed to heal themselves. If it appears that a piece of fat is poking out and is strangulating then surgery is the only option.
