Hello!

It's been a while since i have posted here.Over 2yrs actually since my last dog Eddie died.He suffered from epilepsy and died from complications of the medication.I now have a new friend, a jack russell named Joey who is now 2yrs old.Iam in a bit of a puzzle. His weight is now 10.92kgs.So iam wondering which dose of frontline to get now. the up to 10kgs or the 10-20kgs.Any thoughts would be wonderful.Iam worried about overdosing or under dosing and not stopping the fleas.

Also any news about the others i chatted to who also had dogs with epilepsy.your name i am sorry i have forgotten

Hi Meggsie

If he is over 10kg (even if its only 900gms) you need to go up the dose to the 10-20kg range. If you under does you will find it to be ineffective, don't worry about over dosing, they are fairly safe drugs which require huge amounts of over dosing to have any ill effect.

In my opinion frontline is not very effective anyway. I have discontinued selling it in my salon after many many complaints about it. I also witnessed first hand its ineffectiveness i have been using Advantage on my dogs for years with no problem, previously i always recommended people change between frontline and advantage to stop the fleas building up a resistance to the one drug over time. in the spirit of practicing what i preach :) i decided to do a does of frontline on my dogs in December last year, within days they all had fleas :) so i advantaged them all and strait away no more fleas and no problem since. After that and with all the complaints i was getting i have decided Frontline is no longer very effective (even some vets agree). So JMO Advantage or Advantix seems to be the way to go, although some people still swear by frontline :( . Good luck.

Hi Meggsie, I havent had the pleasure of talking to you yet.

I joined here a little while ago.

I lost my Border 11 weeks ago due to complications caused by epilepsy. Its still hard to talk about. He was on Phenomav for 4 years. 100mg 3 times a day, poor boy.

Eventually he had the "big Kahuna" of all Grand Mal seizures and we had to make the awful choice to put him to sleep.

Sorry to hear that your dog passed due to the meds. What was he on? Had he been ill for long? I know the meds are very bad for them, they affect the liver and kidneys badly. But what else can you do? Its either let them keep seizing or medicate them and damage their organs.....kind of a "lose, lose" situation hey.

Anyways congrats on your new pup, look forward to hearing all about him.

Oh and I agree, go the 10-20kg pack just in case, I really dont think you can overdose them. It would take a lot more than that to hurt him.

Danielle.

Hi Danielle!

It's been 2yrs last feb since i lost Eddie,He was 4 when he died.He started having seizures just before he was 12mths. But didn't go on to the meds Phemabarbitol (my spelling is crap) untill just before he died.He was on the meds for 10 days when at 3am one nite he got really sick and was vomiting. He spent 2 weeks going between regular vet and the specialist vet hospital at straithfield(NSW) where it was thought that he had pancreatitis which in turn cause scaring and damage to his bile duct.He was totally jaundice. Was ment to have surgery but died the morning of. I was soooo shattered he was my heart. I still cry just thinking about what the poor bugger went through. The meds in that short time made him extremely lithargic and stored fat in his blood which caused the pancreatitis. If i had the time over i would not have put him on the meds. But can't change it now.

I now have another Jack(russell) JOEY he's just turned 2 and he's pretty alright. He's a lot more aloof than Eddie.Ed was contantly by my side and would let me out of his sight.Joe's off the first chance he gets. .He love racing,he's not fast but he LOOOOOVEEES it :) We have a race day this sunday so he's resting up.

Going to try and put piccky on hope it works

Sorry for slow rely iam a 2 finger typer

cheers Megs
