First I heard that the glue used to glue the felt was a problem, and then it was the dye, next was the felt is abrasive on their teeth, now you tell me that it is the rubber. I guess I should just except that it is not good to let them play with tennis balls for long periods but I am still curious to know the real reason. jen Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

In the 4 years I have had him I would say that ball-obssessed Jake's canines have worn down by 1 third!! I have asked the vet about it and she told me that he will not lose his teeth so I am not so worried about it as he is a pet. However, if you are showing or you want your dog to have nice teeth, you definitely need to limit it. I would add that Jake plays fetch for a max of 40 mins per day, but it is every day. I tried the soccer ball as an alternative (well giant tennis ball), which he also loves, but he has now worn the hair off his nose!! If he plays too much with that his nose starts to bleed from the friction Jakes other teeth are pretty fine. Now when I see other dogs with proper teeth it looks strange to me!!! Same as with sticks - why owners thru bits of branches for their dogs is beyond me. That is SO dangerous. this dog swallowed his ball. That's why the Orbee ball is better. leerburg uses the Orbee ball for that reason. i'd love to get one but i havent found any places that sell them, orhave i ot been looking hard enough... a quick story, a friend of mine resqued an 8 or 9 yo dobie, he was not in the best way. it wasn't till a couple of month ago that they discovered he had swallowed a tennis ball which looked like it had been in his stomach for a fair few years. once he had it removed he started to get better and is now much healthier. because of this i am paraniod about giving kaiser any tennis balls, that and the glue, rubber and die is supposed to be bad for them, and probably is quite bad.
