Maybe I'm confused though cause my invoice says 3 viles Yeah, they can only fit so much into each suspension... We have three different ASITs... but when you start you will get 3 vials of EACH ASIT in three different doses: start on the lowest and then build up to the full potency... So I suppose it would depend on how they label them... they might count the 3 of one type as "one" because it's just the one vaccine?? Be interesting to see what you get!! <G> Actually you should be able to have a rough tell from price... but you may not want to post that up... here (and I'm sure it varies from place to place) we pay about $255 per vaccine... Don't mind posting price, but I'm getting it cost price through work so not sure if that will help? Was $250 I think... Hmm, hard to tell then hey? That may cover three at cost price... Our vet referred us on to a skin specialist, who ran a series of tests that were somewhat inconclusive and left us more than $1,000 out of pocket. We changed her diet, there were some improvements in her condition,went back to the specialist & the recommendation was more tests with no guaranteed positive results for the dog at an estimated cost of several thousand dollars. We decided to go back to our vet. He suggested monthly cortisone injections. He advised that there would be a shortened lifespan of maybe 10% but the dog would have a much better quality of life. Well, we decided to take that course of action & have not regretted the decision. The coat grew back to a quality coat, the dog ate the same diet as our other dogs & is still active & alert. $35 a month for injections. I'd be thinking that with a $250 cost price, the 'normal' price would become about $400-450? Ah well, I'll know what we've got within a week!! I'm working on staggering them so I can buy all three at different times... got one out separate from the other two, so next time I'll order one before I need it, and then the other one when I do... that will lower impact of cost a bit!! samboy Posted June 21, 2009 Share Posted June 21, 2009 Hello, we just started sammys injections on the 25th of May and have noticed that a little bit of hair has began to grow on his belly, where he has his huge bald spot, the little spots that sammy had between his toes are almost gone and his ear infections have cleared up. Im really happy with the results that he is getting from the injections, so i am really happy with the resyults that he e is getting from the injectios. Looks like each 'set' has about 16 allergens in them. The others all stand around going - "where's ours" Ii'm not worried about jabbing him (i'm a vet nurse) I was more worried that knowing my luck, he'd be one of the few that have a really nasty reaction and going into anaphylaxis! Munchin Posted June 26, 2009 Share Posted June 26, 2009 We start our injections on Monday. Fluffy one has to stay there for an hr after the injection in case of a reaction. My question is now, how often do the bad reactions occur and will a shot of adrenalin fix it. Murphys law with my lot, if it shouldnt happen it does, if can go wrong it does and in particular with this one, she never does things by halves. I still love her though!! Munchin, I'm not 100% sure, but I believe severe reactions are not that common. The most common types they see is general reddening of the skin, an increase in itchiness and sometimes hives. If the reaction causes severe itching, then a dose of cortisone will help that. If the reaction is anaphylactic, then adrenaline can be used. We don't have them in for observation when we do ours... We've seen the increase in itchies / hives / contact reaction here... we've swapped protocols for some reactions, and discontinued Asher's because of his reaction, but they weren't life threatening. Well Benson has been going great with the injections thus far, no reactions but I am not sure whether that was because he was on the Atopica - but we have discontinued that as of Friday 26th of June. However on Monday the 22 nd of June he developed two hot spots and these have not cleared up even with treatment but they were not brought on by the injections as such cause these are done on Tuesdays and Thursdays - so I am calling the derm today to find out whether we should put him on antibiotics for a bit to see if they clear up. No problems with the injection except she wouldnt talk to the vet after. At home she was a bit subdued and was just off colour, not herself, but otherwise good. This morning its like nothing every happened. Ran around stupid like normal. Had a good chat to the vet while we killed out hour of observations. My vet spent time in a specialist clinic in England where she worked with a dermatologist for a few years. She is confident that my girl should respond to the injections but worse case my need monthly ones after for a while, she doesnt remember any dog not improving at all. So its all fingers crossed for a good result and lots of injections. If I remember correctly the whole thing, blood tests and the 6 bottles (vials, 3 of each concentration, red blue and green) cost me all up $540 with the only extra being for the needles. Not sure who your test was run through, but I know that the COST price for our SPOT test and the 6 vials (green blue and red) was $500 - each thing being $250. So how you got all that for $540, I have no idea, but you've scored yourself a great deal there!! FTPO - fingers crossed everything goes ok with Benson coming off the Atopica. Bugger about the hot spots :D Orbit's going ok - we're up to 0.8ml of each tomorrow. He's been a bit itchier lately, but that could also be because I've cut back on his cortisone. Hopefully that's what it is, and not the injections, though I guess it's normal to see itching from the injections, seeing your jabbing them with so many allergens!! Also possibility that the vets have a done me a good deal, with what I have spent there in the last 6 months. But after the prices some of you guys are paying I am not going to say a thing. mish13 Posted June 30, 2009 Share Posted June 30, 2009 (edited) Oscar my six year old standard poodle has always had ear problems that we couldn't seem to get on top of. I took him to Mike Shipstone and he ran all the allergy tests. It turns out Oscar is allergic to everything except tobacco, which is funny because neither my husband or myself smoke. Mike made up three vials for me to inject different amounts on different days. I was pretty worried about doing the needles but Oscar made it so easy, as soon as he saw me getting it out he would stand and wait. At $400 each time we have gone through this whole process three times so $1200 plus the cost to see Mike. At the end he still has ear trouble, maybe not quite as much but I wont be buying a 4th batch. I groom my own dogs and have my own hydro bath and full set up, so he gets fully groomed once a fortnight. If his ears are bad they get cleaned more often and this seems to be the only way I can keep it under control. Mike says his ears are more itchy then painful so knowing that makes it easier for me.
