Dog Paw Licking

Hi

Last night I noticed my dog's paw red raw! He was licking and licking and I went to have a look at what he was doing. I know he was playing with his toy bone last night and holding it for a while but I was shocked at how pink a part of his pad now is.

Can anyone please help with what I should do to clean his paw and to stop him from licking. I wrapped it up but he managed to just pull it off.

I thought he may have licked because he was anxious but nothing has changed in his routine. He did have his first hydrobath 3 days ago (I usually wash at home) but wanted to try it. Im not sure how that could irritate him. I cant think of anything that might of caused this licking.

Hope you can help. Im all worried while Im at work. I just want to go home!!!

Thanks

Maybe he got bitten by a bull ant ?

if he's irritated from the hydrobath, won't it be the whole body irritated?

I knew a Pug that would contantly lick his paws, all night long, turned out to be a fungal infection, like tinia i guess, not sure what caused it,but the vet prescribed some cream and he hasnt done it since.

Thanks guys. Your right hydro would irritate all over if it was the issue. I booked into vet but when I got home tonight it looked like it was already healing and he hadnt licked it much. Im going to keep an eye on him and take him in the morning just to make sure he hasnt stepped on something or have an infections.

I appreciate your replies. I will ask vet about fungal infection, grass seeds, bites etc.

He is a border collie. 2 years old.

Cheers!!
