luv mini schnauzers Posted December 3, 2009 Share Posted December 3, 2009 (edited) Hi all, haven't been on for a while, I had a issue with little blisters on mini schnauzers back that crusted over when dryed. Been to vet, no mites maybe fungal thingy . treated for fungal got better but as soon as I stop using anti fungal stuff they come back!!!!! Had internal fungal treatment as well, antibiotics and a fungal wash.Vet wants to do more scrapings but Ive suggested skin specialist instead, so off we go on the 14th dec. :laugh: :thumbsup: Ruby is not troubled by this issue at all. No fur has been lost just these little blisters that bursts and scab over, more annoying to me then Ruby. Am I over reacting??????? Extract from Encyclopedia of Veterinary Medical Information Schnauzer Comedone Syndrome This is a condition affecting Schnauzers that produces comedones, or pus filled bumps that are usually mostly on the back of affected schnauzers. This is an inherited condition that will be present throughout the dog's life if it is the problem. There is no cure but good nursing care can make this much less of a problem. Applying benzoyl peroxide shampoos or gels can help a great deal. Usually twice weekly bathing or gel application is sufficient. Clipping the hair over the affected areas and keeping it short can help in some cases. Application of astringents such as witch hazel has been recommended by some vets and may be beneficial as well. Some Schnauzers will respond to isotretinoin (Accutane Rx) but I think this is still a pretty expensive treatment, especially considering the need for long term use. luv mini schnauzers Posted December 14, 2009 Author Share Posted December 14, 2009 OMG, Im a bit upset, my Ruby has schnauzer comedones, or the skin specialist is fairly certain thats whats going on.She is on antibiotics for now and then we review in Jan.I need to wash her in an antibacterial sh and cond for the rest of her life..........My poor sweet baby. Dogsfevr Posted December 14, 2009 Share Posted December 14, 2009 It would be extremely rare to have schnauzer bumps,it isnt a problem seen in Australai but well known in the US. Do you feed Beef?? becks Posted December 15, 2009 Share Posted December 15, 2009 Don't panic! I've groomed a dog with this condition for all of his life and it was never a real problem.
