Boy suffers injuries in dog attack

16th March 2010

A 10-YEAR-OLD boy suffered injuries to his face after a suspected dog bite at Glasshouse Mountains yesterday.

The young boy was reported to have been walking home from the Glass House Mountains Primary School when he was approached by a german shepherd just after 3pm.

The child suffered a laceration to the mouth and scratches.

Authorities investigating the matter said it was unknown last night whether the dog had “attacked” the boy or whether his injuries were the result of the dog attempting to play with the child.

Council response services manager Ron Thomas said the dog was a registered “Australian shepherd” or german shepherd-kelpie cross.

Mr Thomas said the dog had been roaming the area.

“The dog was recognised by someone at the school who contacted the owner,” he said.

“The dog is currently back on the registered property as we continue our investigations.”

Mr Thomas said the council was waiting to speak to the child last night.

Poor kid, but geez, since when is an Aussie shepherd a german shepherd cross Kelpie???? 'Australian' must mean Kelpie and all 'shepherds' must be german shepherds??? Or perhaps the inclusion of the worrds 'german shepherd makes it more news worthy? :(

It makes you wonder in these cases did the boy provoke the dog or did the dog attack the boy. It would be nice if we could hear the dogs side of the story before coming to any conclusions, but sadly, as in most of these cases, that will never happen.
