Re-teaching Roll Over

4 posts in this topic

Niques

James had a good grasp of "roll" as a puppy but lost the ability when he was about one. He knows what he's meant to do but he completely lacks the momentum to actually make it all the way over, even when lured. So he just lies on his side flailing his paws.

Any ideas on how to re-teach this?

i taught my last dog to roll over by having her lay on her side, and flipping her over saying "roll over" and she caught on really fast. i wouldnt do this with my current dog, hes too soft.

I don't know but I love your description

Edit - I notice this is from March, I wonder how Niques went with it? :)

I used Kyra Sundance's method; using food to lure the dropped dog's nose to it's side, then further over to its back and it 'falls/rolls' over.
