a few people have talked of homeopathic remedies lately. (I just can't remember who, sorry.) Do a search on homeopathic treatments and herbal treatments anad you should find something.

Meanwhile, if anyone remembers the threads can you link to them.

David - are you in Sydney?

My Sydney vet is a homeopath as well - I've not had to consult her about cancer but she is well regarded by those who use her. I can PM you her details if you'd like to have a chat with her.

With everyone mentioning natural methods, it reminded me of a vet I have seen called All Natural Vet Care in Russell Lea, Sydney. They have a website too, if you live in Sydney but I'm not sure if they're suitable for you, but maybe have a look anyway: www.naturalvet.com.au Good luck and best wishes!

These guys are good - and will do phone consults too - will work in with your local vet or specialist if appropriate (so treatments complement each other)

I'll add in my two penneth worth as well. Dr Barbara Fougere and Sue Hunt have been assisting in teh care of my dogs since 2002 when Lucinda was diagnosed with Mast Cell Tumour. I have been more than impressed. They work with my regualar vet too which is a great bonus.

I am based in Queensland and have had no problems.

Hi all and thanks for your replies! I Will respond individually when I can.

We got a call from the vet today and he said the results DID NOT show any signs of cancer!

This is great news of course, but he also said perhaps they didn't go deep enough to get a biopsy of the ACTUAL tumour, if one exists, OR it could just be a beinign mass caused by some form of trauma at some stage, like being struck on the nose.

So, she is not out of the woods yet but the outlook is somewhat brighter. We are to keep her on antibiotics as her breathing has improved somewhat since coming home from the vet.

Howdy David

When cooper was crook (saddly, he passed over the weekend, which was the worst thing in the world, and I cant talk about it yet) but when he was sick, I had a natropath come out to see him, and she got him in (one day too late, mind you, but it could help you guys) a powder called bovine cartelidge, she said that it is proven that taking it shrinks tumors. You can get it from most natural remedy shops, if they dont have it, then they will get it for you, it is around the 40 mark.

she was also going to perform REIKI ?SP? on him to relieve any pain.

Hope this helps, from Jo

i know how you feel. Last year we had to put our beautiful cocker to sleep as he had anemia and a stomach ulcer. he would be okay for a few months, then he would strat spewing up blood again and would have to go to the vets for a week. so in the end we had to put him to sleep.

however, during that time we found natural remedies were very useful, just weren't enough. hope they can help you're dog.

:thumbsup::confused::(:cry:

It's comforting at least to be able to come to places like this site where others understand your pain.

I lost a dog a few years back & got the term "it's only a dog" so many times, it's not they're part of the family.

Don't be scared & let things happen too fast. Treat Bess like you would if it were a normal day & do the things you'd normally do. Vets will often try to prepare you so don't be alarmed.

Just remember Bess isn't gone yet if we all pray & send best wishes her way she may even come out of this allright. Just don't get too down until the final verdict comes in & remember like everyone has said Bess will need you so make her life as normal as possible & love her like you always do.

Feeling for you but hoping you're keeping your chin up until the full results are known.

Hi there,

Bess seems to be doing well although she is still blocked. I am not convinced the antibiotics will help, I thought she would be over the infection by now. There is some brown thick fluid running from her nose every now and then, like a child with a bad cold.

One thing I picked up on today is that we have a lot of green ants around here and Bessie is constantly being bitten by them. They are the ones that are larger than the normal black "house" ant and give a nasty burning sting when they bite. They are ferocious and we have heaps of them - they are always around where Bess sleeps. They aren't big hoppy-joes (larger orange ants with pincers). I wonder if one of these have ventured into her nostril and bitten her, causing swelling and an infection? Has anyone heard of this happening?

She regularly eats them and so I wonder if she is suffering from a bite down there. Improbable, maybe, but a thought.

She is getting the stitches out of her eye this week where she had a black lump removed last week, so we will know more then.

Thanks all!!

David

PS I am not sure if you can see it in the photo, but her left eye has been shaved for thr sugery and this is why she looks a little worse for wear. The lump was cut out from the bottom eye-lid, right in the corner near the tear-duct.

Well, she's still grinning in that photo David!

Thanks for the update - I know ants and bees etc can play havoc around dog's noses and mouths, but would have thought it would be more an acute thing, not a really prolonged swelling and would have gone down by now?

If it is a bacterial infection, maybe the antibiotics aren't quite nailing it? I know with some infections it's necessary to culture some of the mucous or infected fluid so you can choose the right antibiotic... I'm not expert, but just a thought.

From what they said it sounds like they're going to do some more tests when they take her stitches out?

Here's hoping they can clear up her snot problems, make her more comfortable and put your mind at rest!

All the best.

Oh no!

I have been working this morning and when I came back I noticed a small amount of cloudy-brown fluid on the cement under her tramp bed at one end where her head and nose hangs over.

There are also several spots of blood on her bed as well.

I have seen her nose bleed before taking her to the vet the other week and it occurs after a sneezing attack, which is obviously irritating the blockage enough to cause bleeding.

She left her food last night although I must admit she had some bones which could have curbed her appetite. She ate her food from her bowl just now. Trouble is that is the only way I can get antibiotics into her - with her food.

She appears ok, happy as normal, no obvious signs of discomfort apart from the weeping nose.

Not sure what this means but I will mention this to the vet tomorrow when she gets her stitches out. Her nose is not currently bleeding.

Oh no...

Could it be a bit of bleeding from the biopsy - maybe she's dislodged the scabs?

Hope you get some good news tomorrow when you go to get the stitches out...

You've got me worrying about two of mine, now, who both do snorting sort of drawbacks when they greet you...
