Puppy Urinating When Meeting

My old maltese used to wee between 3-5 years of age when he's greeting guests, it's just overexcitement. I didn't attempt to correct it much, just request guests not to pat him when their first enter the door. My dog is now 8yrs old and grew out of it himself, I think it's just a phase for some dogs.
