  1. Indi's not fussed on the Orbees - she's got one she won't touch ....... and yet I was STILL tempted to buy one just because they were sooooo cheap
  2. Picked up 7 obedience dvd's for just over $98 including postage Dogwise They also have a number of agility ones - just need to scroll down past halfway
  3. for Janet's products - great customer service! Came across this site the other day for dumbbells with class - LINK
  4. It's true - you can't categorise. Last year I lost my beautiful 9yr old GSD and 5mths later my 87yr old dad. The difference was that I lost my GSD at 1.00 in the morning to bloat - the vet tried surgery and rang me to let me know he probably wouldn't survive and I had to make the decision to PTS when only hours before he was perfect and should have lived for many more years . I can honestly say I have NEVER been so distraught and upset in my life. When I lost my dad it was after a steady decline where he had to endure a loss of dignity that he didn't deserve - so, as sad as I was at his loss, it was 'different' to the loss of my GSD. It depends on the circumstances and should never be categorised.
  5. +1 Beautiful! +2 You must have such a great bond with him - I'm not surprised you miss him so much!
  6. Yep, couldn't agree more . Crating at night is a given at our place - and my dogs aren't destructive, BUT I wonder if that's because they were never given the opportunity in their first 12 months. And 'training' as opposed to running her at the park - using her brain for training instead of how to pull the couch apart

    Thea

What a special girl R.I.P. beautiful Thea
  8. Took the words right out of my mouth! I'm surprised at some of the comments to be honest. She is having problems and asked a question about behaviourists, that's it! I was wondering the same thing - have we missed something
  9. great clip I noticed in your clip you had your hand on your left side - is that your usual hand position in Aus. or did you change in the lead-up to going to the UK? Fingers crossed the flight home was easier for the dogs, it was a little shorter and they are back in Oz even if not at home yet. With this in mind would you do this again?
  10. There's obviously something going on there if she's getting worse over time, so you're doing the right thing by seeing a Behaviorist I've haven't had any problems with any of my dogs to have a need for a Behaviorist however I've only ever heard great things about this particular Behaviorist (I have met her and she's very approachable :) ). Please let us know how you get on
  11. . Lovely to watch (nice looking Lab :) ) - the handler was great too (great footwork imho). I notice most handlers keep their left hand firmly on their left hip, something I've just started to do lately. Just out of interest, why? I tended to keep my left arm up to keep it out of the way because my dog is tall, but that makes me feel as though I'm walking awkwardly. I actually like and feel better balanced letting my arm swing, although because my dog is tall I swing it out a bit - got that little tip off Mia Skogster :D Nothing technical Erny . I haven't been in the ring for quite a few years but even way back then I was more comfortable letting my arm swing (my GSD was 69cm, so reasonably tall). My female shepherd is really quite small but for some reason if I leave my arm swing I keep connecting with her . I've been to a couple of Mia Skogsters seminars too and yes she said to walk with both arms swinging naturally so I tried. Maybe I'm getting (more) uncoordinated as I get older and just can't get that arm swinging without risk of knocking my dog out . Sooooooo ..... it's nice to see a number of competitors in the Obedience that held their hand against their hip and I'm sure they're younger (and more coordinated) than I am

  13. I must admit I was curious as to which breeds would be represented - not surprised at the number of BCs  . I'm sure I saw a Malinois too and I wonder how often in the past they've appeared in a Crufts Obedience ring?
  14. Lots of Border Collie's (in all the teams) ...... but was that a German Shepherd I saw in the winning team??? Lovely to see Australia being represented
  15. Regardless of the breed the thought of this dog being attacked makes my stomach turn
  16. Can't get your link to work, but I've posted this on my FB (Bosun is a very special GSD) ... Bosun, the police dog that gained notoriety when he tracked down the alleged killers of Gold Coast policeman... Damien Leeding, is being treated after being injured on duty last night. PD Bosun was hurt when police raided a house investigating a road rage incident. Nine News understands Bosun was attacked by other dogs that were on the premises. Police say they are hoping Bosun makes a speedy return to duty.
  17. Only because she doesn't have a double coat - my last long coat shed like there was no tomorrow
  18. Unfortunately mine has the skin problems - however I've found the 3yrly vaccination instead of annual has helped a lot. I found that her skin always flared up within a week or so of being vaccinated (hot spots ) and now she only gets ear infections, mainly after a lot of wet weather.
  19. Good advice - and can I just add that at 10mths of age, even if she's never been crated before, it's still very easy to introduce your new addition to the crate. One other advantage is if she ever needs to stay at the vet (I hope this never happens) she will be quite comfortable in the cage/crate used by the vet - oh, and crates are also handy when going on holidays ;)
  20. Not all of them! I've had shepherds for over 30 years and I've FINALLY got one that hardly sheds - and she's a long-coat . The difference is she doesn't have a double coat which I know is a fault but with our hot Qld climate it's a bonus. She's dry within a couple of hours (at the most) of having a bath too - whereas I have a Goldie (now they SHED!!!!) and he's still damp at the end of the day. Either way a shepherd makes up for this one incovenience in every other way
  21. The best person to ask is the breeder - ie. what food has she been feeding her, what type of bed is she sleeping in, what sort of toys does she like (tug, ball ....) You are going to have a wonderful time with your new shepherd they make the best pets, but then I'm VERY biased  Don't forget to post pics ;)
