  1. ooooohhhhh that's not good to hear. I was on the point of buying some things from them. It doesnt take much to put me off buying online from someone. Now I"m not sure I'll go ahead.
  2. I've been getting him to lick manuka honey (UMF 15+) off my fingers - he loves that LOL This morning I finally got another look at it and it seems to be healing way fast although there is still a flap that's loose so I will be careful what he eats and plays with till I see that healing up. So sorry to have panicked a bit. It just looked and sounded horrible and the vet lady didn't help matters Anyway - it's all good and I can get back to training the little genius.
  3. Thanks all for your comments. From what I can see I've snipped a circular piece across the top of his tongue where he had it stuck in the hole and it's separated a little from the rest - sort of across the top of the tip of his tongue and then down over the tip. Hard to explain. The clippers are an unusual style so fortunately they didn't cut a large peice. They look like this And I just accidentally squeezed it while he was licking it (I had peanut butter on my fingers which got on the clippers....... long stoopid story). They are very easy to squeeze and they only make a click sound when you actually cut something off. They made a horrible click sound that I can still hear because they snipped off his tongue skin! eeeeeeuuurrrggghhh! He actually has been back over to the clippers and quite happily tried to lick it since then so he seems to have no problem with it. Probably still smells of peanut butter.
  4. Awww thanks for that! I'll let him know you said it
  5. :p IF there's any way to do that he'd probably figure it out. hahahahaha It did bleed a bit for a while - not a blood bath like my other dogs tongue was - but enough for me to be concerned and it looks a bit like it's got a piece hanging off. Hard to tell because I can't get a close look at it with wriggle bottom boy's artful dodges, without grabbing his tongue which I don't want to do. The frozen chicken seems to have resolved that tho. I also just gave him some colloidal silver and a drink of cold yoghurt/water. He seems fine I just want to get a proper look at that tongue when he settles a bit.
  6. *nods* not meaning to sound flippant :p Our workers often end up with bloody tongues from being thumped by sheep etc ..none have ever caused more than a very temporary bit of pain . Yeah - you can be flippant :p - it's the vet I spoke to (or vet nurse) that scared me. I'd rather feel reassured. I have had dogs bite their tongues before. One of them sprayed blood all through the car when I was driving home - I didn't even know what had happened till I pulled up at my door and noticed my car looked like a crime scene. RFLMAO He was fine. I guess I just felt more responsible because I had sort of deliberately sliced into the poor fellas tongue!!! And it looks nasty - well what i can see of it LOL).
  7. Ooohhhhhh that's nasty. THanks I feel a little better about our mishap now LOL
  8. Is there anything I can give him to minimise chances of infection? I mean if it was a person i would rinse with tea tree oil but I'm not keen on using that on a puppy Or am I worrying about nothing?
  9. mmmm I've got some chicken wings in there. :p
  10. damn dont have any - I moved the ice tray out of my tiny freezer to fit in all the bloody dog meat LOL Good idea tho. Maybe I can find something in there to substitute!
  11. Hi rysup. Thanks - I wasn't sure about whether it would heal! It's not bleeding a lot. And he seems perfectly fine - still looking for food etc. The vets were all closed for a public holiday and the only one who did answer said he'll need stitches but it will never heal properly and he'll have a split tongue forever. Sorry - I'm babbling a little. I just feel terrible. ETA Immediately after it happened I got him to lick a little pawpaw ointment (the dogs love that stuff so they were all in there wondering why Dylan got it all hahahaha) Probably didnt make a blind bit of difference but it made me feel sightly less evil
  12. Ahhhhh Look I just did something so horribly stupid I cant believe I did it. I was getting Dylan used to the nail clipper things and accidentally squeezed the bloody thing without knowing he was going to lick it and cut through his tongue!!!! I feel like the stupidest cruelest person alive. Poor little guy. Anyway - all the vets are closed atm and I want to know if there's anything I can do to help him until tomorrow, Do tongues heal?? Are there any natural remedies that will work on a tongue (tricky I know) Any thoughts at all would be greatly appreciated. Poor little dude! I cant believe I did that to him!
  13. Hey poochmad!! Thanks for those great comments He does have a good home now - I'm a total dog slave. hahahaha I think you're right re the previous owners! I'm so glad he's not still stuck with them because with his smarts he would have gone slowly insane in that little back yard and probably ended up with all sorts of problems. Hmmmmmm. I don't think him going under the bed is a comfort thing tho LOL If you saw him doing it all the time you'd know what I mean. He is definitely having fun and playing a game. He has started doing it to other bits of furniture now - I think he'd love to have a tunnel because he'll go from one to the other. He is just about the most sassy dog I've ever met so I don't think he's looking for comfort. He'll actually do it most often when everything's all quiet and he's bored hahahahaha Thinking about it he doesnt do it when he's unsure - he'll run to me when he feels insecure which is probably good. He also barks at anything he doesnt like the look of (but runs back to me!!). He was going off at some innocent calves today. Poor wee things. BUT he has now realised that he can tease Tango and then escape under there and Tango wont get him. Tango follows and looks at the bottom of the bed barking etc so Dylan peeks out from under the bed and bashes him in the face like a cat would, then darts back under hahahahahahaha I swear that dog has a sense of humour.
  14. Hey mm - I know what you mean. But I'm not teaching him stuff for the sake of it. I don't normally do this sort of stuff LOL I usually train them with the basics and as long as they're well behaved that's it. But Tango needs confidence work and I've discovered how teaching him things is improving his confidence and awareness. As for Dylan - he just seems to WANT more. You know, it's a bit like suddenly finding yourself with a gifted child LOL He follows me around and stares at me all the time. He will sit quietly near me wherever I am and half the time I don't realise he's there until I look in his direction and then he'll start doing tricks at me. LMAO So I want to keep him stimulated and figure I might as well tap into all that smartness and enthusiasm while I can. I just meant I reckon an experienced trainer would have him doing all sorts of fab things by now - I don't need to do that but I just want to keep him learning things - just a little unsure what to teach him hahahahahaa He's just brilliant off lead. I let him out of the car at the takeaway today - off lead. He just waited outside very patiently. Then hopped back in the car when I asked him to. He did try to follow some young girls who walked past but came back when I called him. Little tart.
  15. I'm seriously starting to wonder if I've got myself some kind of freaky alien dog here. He just seems to learn so ridiculously quickly - and it's not like I've been training him much. I've been a bit busy and have been neglecting his training really. So this morning I decided to rectify that and I got him into the "play room" without the other dogs around. We ran through a few things hes done before. My biggest challenge with Dylan is to stop him doing things BEFORE I've asked him to. So he ran through his repertoire while I waited for him to stop it (look I'm sitting, yay..... er.....no? how bout this then - shake? See how cute I am waving my paw at you......oh wait mebbe you want me to drop!!! ...Nope.... touch your hand?? How bout I try drop again - look I'll make it dramatic!!!!) Finally he just sits and looks at me. LOL THEN I ask him to do something and he does exactly what I ask every time. So today I wanted to go back to basics and follow something someone on here suggested. So we were doing something called "doggy zen". Difficult for Dylan because I don't want much from him and he always seems to want to DO something. But within about 2 minutes he's got it down pat. I try to challenge him. I put the treat on a table. He just looks at it and waits for me to tell him what to do. He has already got it that he can't have stuff until I tell him. So that's all very boring and I decide to step it up. I get him targetting my hand which he had a go at once ages ago and he gets settled on that in a minute or so. Then I bring in a fob watch and just put it on the floor near him. After a little uncertainty - running through the old rep etc he looks at the watch - I treat him. Second time he touches the watch. Treat. A couple more times and he is consistently touching the watch. I give it a name "Watch" (der I'm so creative LMAO) and say watch - he touches the watch. I move it further away and say "watch". He gets up, finds the watch and touches it. A couple more times and I intro a hand signal. (I touch my finger to my wrist) and say watch. He instantly touches the watch only now instead of touching it with his nose he's pouncing on it. HAhahahaha A couple more times then I decide to stop him pouncing and try to challenge him (coz this is ridiculously easy and he looks like he's a bit bored). I put the watch on the couch. I touch my wrist and say watch. He looks at me ..... Doesnt get it. Somehow moving the watch off the floor he seems to lose track of it and the point of the word. I move it back to the floor and do it again. Instant target. Move it to couch while his nose is near it. Say Watch! He touches it on the couch. Repeat. Anyway - a few more tries later I have him over the other side of the room. I can say "watch" or "where's the Watch" and he finds it. Occassionally he gets excited and picks it up for a sec. THIS IS GOOD! I can use that later!!! I grab a treat and give him no signal at all. He is now going through his rep with "watch" also added. Hahahahaha Then I bring Tango in and put DYlan out. I give Tango some one on one training (he still hasnt got drop yet LOL but he tries real hard). Then all three come in and I give different signals. Sit - all of them. Drop - Dylan and a bit Tango. Shake - Dylan. Then with all that distraction going on around him, I say watch to Dylan and tap my wrist. Dylan happens to be sitting on top of the watch so he cant find it ROFL but he looks around the floor and then runs over to the couch and touches where the watch USED to be last time we did this training. hahahahah I treat him anyway, wait for him to move away, say 'Watch' again and he looks around and finds it on the floor and touches it!! I am stunned. That really was no more than 15 - 20 minutes of training to get him to that point. Is this normal???? Then the piese de resistance (SP???) I take all the dogs out for a walk. An hour or so later we come home and I grab a treat, stand in the loungeroom and say "Watch" and tap my wrist. Dylan sits, drops, waves foot around etc. I wait. I do something else. I get his attention again and give him the "Watch" signals. DYlan stares at me for a sec then LOOKS AROUND and goes into the play room and finds the damn watch!!!! I'm starting to wonder if this boy needs someone better than me to train him. He really is astoundingly quick. What next......????
  16. Excellent! THanks pf - I'll check the roof bit next time I go out to the car (its a drama doing it at the moment - long story - dog stuff). Yeah I wouldn't go with perspex either.
  17. Yeah, only cos your all dressed up ready to part tee! Me in my spotty party frock!
  18. I had much the same situation with my 6yo Rottweiler. The first biopsy came back from pathology as inconclusive. 3 months later on second biopsy it was found to be a highly malignant tumour. Can you elaborate please Spottychick. Which tests other than histopathology can be done to determine what the tumours are? The tumours you treated by natural methods that went into remission. Could you explain the natual methods you used and what type of tumours they were? If it ever happens again to one of my dogs I want to be fully armed with as much knowledge as possible. I did use alternative treatments as well as allopathic meds for my dog and she happily lived for much longer than expected but eventually the cancer cut her life short. I'll post or send you something asap. I need a little time to put it together I keep meaning to write it all up on a website or something. This might be the opportunity. The blood tests I can't remember off-hand and the paperwork is buried in a box somewhere in the spare room after moving house. But I'll see if I can find it
  19. Rappie - I'm also very interested in this sort of info for future reference. I'm terrified of it happening to any of my dogs again. When I finally found a vet who knew what they were doing they x-rayed my dogs shoulder but could only id a mass. They took tissue samples (reluctantly because everytime it was interfered with it grew at an incredible rate) but they also took blood samples and gave me a complete blood work up. This was the first time we were able to get an accurate picture of what was going on inside him and we decided to operate immediately. (too late - he was pts during the op due to extensive spreading etc). I can't remember off-hand what all the different blood work tests were tho. And I don't know how useful they are in all circumstances.
  20. Surely the point is that it would have been better not to put the dog through risky surgery and for the OP not to have spent all that money on surgery that was actually unnecessary. The dog was healthy and ok before the surgery.
  21. Ahhhh that's so infuriating! I had the opposite situation where my dog was diagnosed with several different things and meanwhile his actual condition - cancer - was rapidly growing inside. By the time it was properly diagnosed it was too late. Vets - like human doctors - make mistakes. The problem with vets (as someone else is discussing in this forum) is that there is no practical comeback on them because no-one has successfully sued them. However in this case it sounds like it's the lab that was the problem. Ah I dunno. From my experience there are several other tests that you can have done to determine what's going on and ways to treat it - why do they always jump straight to surgery. (I treated tumors on my girl naturally and got them into remission after refusing surgery for her). Things really need to change anyway. I'm so sorry this happened to you and your poor girl. All I can say is that we can only learn from the past and make sure we get a second/third/fourth opinion in future. I wish I'd gone for a second opinion for my boy earlier but at that stage I had no reason to doubt the first vet - it was only a few weeks later when things clearly started deteriorating badly.
  22. If you have a wagon it may be fitted out for a cargo barrier. Have a good look on the roof behind the rear seats and on the cargo floor. What sort of wagon is it? Bear in mind that the latest wagons with side curtain airbags cannot have a metal barrier installed as it interferes with their deployment. It's a mitsubishi station wagon (magna) dating from somewhere in the 90s ;) Pretty old but in good nick. I cant see anything that looks like cargo barrier fitouts or whatever - but maybe I dont know what to look for or am looking in the wrong place
  23. He is ment to be a "foster"?! lol Sorry SC but I have to agree on the foster failure bit. I honestly have no idea what the photo is about, I tried "dalmation in a tutu", "dalmation in a dress"..came up with nothing so typed in "pink dalmation" and got this on the first hit, lol way too much time on my hands when the kids were napping. I think the puppy play room is a great idea, Dylan certainly loves hiding and pepper looks so pleased with having the bed all to herself. LOL So far he is doing okay with Tango which was my main concern. I wonder if given we now know Dylan is 8 or more months old, this means they are unlikely to fight at all..... Gee - well you'd think there'd be lots of pics of dallys in tutus wouldnt you
