  1. Is Canoli oil ok to be added to her meal? What type of oil is good for dogs? We always heard that never put oil in their food.
  2. Oh, side effects on gastrointestina tract, is that why my vet ask me to put oil into her diet, so to give her a fatty meal, to prevent the side effects? How soon can I take her off these tablets? When the ring is totally gone? Anyway, she will be recheck in 2 weeks time.
  3. The vet has prescribe Chelsea Grisovin tablets for treating her ringworm. I want to know if anyone here is aware of the tablets side effects? I try to search on the web, but didn't find any info about side effects.
  4. Sinead - I hope your Bichon is ok. How is he now? I got a Bichon too. I don't use snail pellets on my garden. Thanks that the breeder has warned me.
  5. Chelsea just went to the vet yesterday for ringworm. I also ask for skin scrapping to test for mite infection. Will update you once result come back You mention the vet use steroid to wipe her. Once I have raised to my breeder saying Chelsea is biting fur and scratching (like yours), the breeder said to avoid the use of steroid at all cost, as steroid can have negative effect later in her life. So I am not sure by that if it means just an injection of steroids? or wiping?
  6. I feed Chelsea with raw chicken or raw lamb for meals. I put a small piece of vegie in there (about a tablespoon), pumpkin, brocolli or carrot. I have tried giving it to her in a larger amount, she just simply not eating them after a while. If I give her just tiny bit every meal, she will take it. Maybe they just need a very small amount of vegie in their diet
  7. I give Chelsea a few small pieces of banana, and she will poo On the other hand, when I give Chelsea sweet potato to eat, her poo is very firm
  8. Mil, I have a Bichon too, now 7 months old. I remembered those old times when she ate something from the garden and worried me, but fortunately, it was ok, except a few occasions where she vommitted and having diahorrea. Whenever I saw her having something in her mouth, I will give her a kibble and then she will split out the things in her mouth. Here is the toxic plant listing http://www.sniksnak.com/plants-toxic.html Have your Bichon start digging holes yet? Mine start the digging project when she was 10 - 12 weeks.
  9. oh, sorry, didn't see the last post, it has already said the symptoms
  10. When I got Chelsea at 8 weeks, she has got ear mites, and the doctor prescribe "Milliemites", it only require a single dose and then it is gone. I always use a cutton bud to clean out Chelsea's ear after the weekly bath, and it takes several weeks for me to get all the dirt out. It cost $20 when having the medication in the vet, so it may cause cheaper if you buy it outside. Btw, how can you tell if the dog has ear mites? I know that Chelsea has ear mites, cos the vet check it.
  11. What breed of dog is yours? I think most breed come into season at 7 months. My breeder has told me that her dogs are usually mature pretty late. My pup's sister in an earlier litter hasn't come into season at 10 months yet. Anyway, I have just took my pup for desex. She has just turn 6 months. Desexing can have some impact on growth. There are reading which said to best desex a female after their first season, that is, let the pup has the first season, then desex. However, there are a lot of hassel when a pup come into season.

    Bones Etc

My puppy had chicken necks since 9 weeks, and later introduce chicken wings. She will eat both the meat and the bones. It amazed me after I gave her the chicken wings, there is no bones left. She is only a toy size breed (Bichon)
  13. Hi Happy/grl, Can I ask you what food do you feed as the first BARF? Because my pup is fed with Royal Canine and also some necks and mince, just like Akira. I want to change her to BARF, but not sure how to make the changes. Thanks
  14. My pup used to be the same, sometimes wee on the pads, sometimes on the floor and then on the bed. She is Bichon pup (so much more smaller than yours), and stay in a puppy pen indoor. Anyway, when I see her wee so much on the bed, I put 2 piece of cloth on the floor, 1 for her to sleep and 1 for her to wee. When she wee on any of those cloth, I praise her, and say no when she wee on the floor. When she was about 12 weeks, she got the idea only wee on the cloth. Now I put back her normal bed cushion inside the crate and she will just wee on the cloth. I just wash the cloth after her wee everytime. Using newspaper creates more trouble than washing the cloth, cos my pup just tear and eat the newspaper (and newspaper is poisonous) A pup won't get control of the bladder until they are about 16 weeks. So patient is very important. Also, mark down the time when they will wee during the day, make sure you feed them at same time each day.
  15. Are you feeding the puppy with kibbles, do they float on water? How about you put some kibbles into the water before meal, and he will try to eat the kibbles and it will make him drink some water. I do this to my pup.
  16. In the puppy class that I went to, there are puppies that are only 6 - 7 weeks old, and of course they are not puppies from registered breeders. It is a puppy class in a vet clinic. The other one I went to is at Castle Hill showground and that's only allow you to take pup once they have the 2nd vaccination.
  17. How can I tell if the pup has adult teeth for sure? My pup only has small teeth so I think they are just baby teeth. Also with teething, I give her a rawhide to chew, but sometimes she just eat too much rawhide and end up vommitting. Now I only limit her to chew on the rawhide for about 30 mins per day. What do you guys give them for teeth apart from rawhide? She also has toys with ropes, soft toys and plastic toys for her to chew on, but she has no interest in those. I bought a flexi nylonbone last weekend, but I reckon it is too soft, she has chew out a small piece of it, so I didn't give that to her anymore. May have to buy a hard nylonbone. Anyone with a nylonbone, can you let me know how good they are. Thanks.
  18. My Bichon pup is 19 weeks old now. I don't notice her teeth has fallen out yet. I went to a dog show before (when pup was 15 weeks old) and one of the Bichon breeders (not my breeder) mentioned to me that sometimes pup can have problems in having their adult teeth, that the baby teeth blocking the adult teeth to grow out, then it will require some operations. Is it normally a pup will change the teeth at 3 - 4 months? And should I be concern if at this point in time, there is no sign of adult teeth coming up?
  19. I took my pup at 12 weeks, after 2nd vaccination, which is normal C5. The vet took me the vaccination take effect immediately, no need to wait for 7 days. Can I ask a question if that's the normal vaccination type 1st vaccination C4 2nd vaccination C5 3rd vaccination C3 What I used to do and what I also do now is, whenever I can foresee that the pup will be going to a place where a lot of dogs have been to, I bath her on that day. e.g. bath her after puppy class. I am not sure if it actually help in any way, but that's what I do.
  20. oh, your puppy is so cute. What breed is it? I took my pup to puppy school at week 13, after 2nd vaccination, cos classes run every 4 weeks, if I have taken her at 9 weeks, I would worry about her catching disease. On her first class, she is also very scare and whinning a lot during the class. I gave her a few scratches around her throat area. In her second class, she is up and playing with other pups. In my class, there is actually a big lab puppy that was so scare that he hind under the chairs for the whole 1st lesson, and even when the instructor put food on the floor to ask him to come out, still hinding. It improve the next week. You will be amazed as to how quickly they will learn. I suggest you to take your pup for a walk or invite people to your place.
  21. Mine is in Sydney is said to be $44, but then they add on GST, but work out to be $50. How much do they charge for C5 vaccination?
  22. My Bichon pup also nips a lot. She likes to bite into my pants and then pull me back. I have been told by a trainer that I should turn away from her and just stand there and ignore, make sure you don't give any eye contact. Saying NO or AHAH or having eye contact, will mean giving attention, which is a kind of a reward. I usually ignore her now, but sometimes, when she actually nips or bites at my ankle, it really hurts, I will scream and grab her at the scuff and growl. At 9 weeks, my Bichon only know SIT and WAIT. Now, at 17 weeks, she knows SIT, DROP, WAIT, HAND (giving out her hand to me), stand on its hind legs and do a little dance for a few seconds. I bought those ring which people use for fitness, and she learn to jump through the ring. I am trying to teach her to give me her left and right hand on command, but she just won't get it, she can't tell what is left or right.
  23. Hi Mil, I have just recently got a Bichon, first time dog owner, with a lot of silly questions, my breeder is happy to answer them all. Yeah, it does involve a fair bit to take care of her. During my first week, I have been only sleeping about 4 -5 hours average each night, got to keep an eye on her, cleaning up her wee and poo. Then each day it gets better, as the pup understands your routine, and me understanding her routine. I am not sure if you are well enough to have some sleepless nights at first. Now, 4 weeks in my place, and she is all ok. Sometimes she can get a bit mischevious (sp?). like constantly pulling my pants. It gets a bit annoyed, cos everytime I try to walk, there is this thing pulling me backwards! Overall, she is a lovely pup, we do kisses, and we can't stop laughing at some of her cute actions, like carrying your slipper and run around the house.
  24. She is 11 weeks. My vet told me to take her to puppy school after 2nd vaccination. So she will be at puppy school soon, but I don't want her to be a boss. What can I do now?
  25. What sort of signs that we can see, if the puppy is trying to be bossy and trying to take leadership over you? Whenever I feed Chelsea, I told her to sit, then I pretend to eat some from her bowl for about 10 seconds. Chelsea will then jump up, bark and growl at me. Should she be sitting still and quiet while watching me eating from her bowl (like it is shown on "It's me or the dog")? Also, she always chew on my slipper or my feet whenever I walk to her, it is not licking, but chewing/ biting, and sometimes she will pull and chew my pants. I have say NO, but she just won't listen. Has she already being the leader?
