  1. CCD: Is firstly heelwork done on lead, fast, medium and slow paces with stands, automatic sits and downs, figure of eight (heelwork still on lead, going around tow people) which is either done at the beginning or end of the heelwork. Next exercise is the stand for examination which is again done on lead. Returning around your dog. Last exercise is the recall, which is done off lead, you only leave your dog for a short distance. Than come the group exercises when each competitor enters the ring together and you all line up for the one minute sit and the two minute down stays..... leaving your dog and going a short distance away. CCD title after 3 passes. Novice sweepstakes: Which you require in Queensland before you can enter CD...... 150/200 Heelwork all done off lead. Stand for examination off lead. Recall (can be length of ring) also finishes at end of exercises Change of position from stand to a down, or retrieve the dumbbell. Group exercises as before, leaving to go right across to the other side of the ring. This time doing a one minute sit and a three minute down. These are the same requirements that are needed for your CD title, again 3 passes are required. Hope this helps.
  2. I have one that works really well for liver....... another that will give his life for a piece of chicken, and a youngster that will do ANYTHING for a single cat biscuit! So it varies as to what in their eyes is HIGH VALUE.
  3. Cala I wouldn't rehome him just yet, dogs go through many developmental stages between puppyhood and maturity and 7 months isn't the best age to judge a puppy, especially if it's a medium or large breed. If weak pasterns are his only problem and you're pleased with him overall I'd run him on to at least 12 months. Did you breed this dog? If you didn't it might be a good idea to contact his breeder and ask what they think, breeders know their lines and should be able to advise you. That's what I was thinking, I am quite prepared to run him on until he is at least 12 months old. No I didn't breed him, but he has my lines in his dam line. The breeders have been notified.... Neither I or the breeder have had this sort of problem before.
  4. Thanks for that Magnum.......... I am reluctant to part wiith him
  5. The club trains the old fashioned way, no clickers, or squeaky toys, and quite often they have a monthly intake of 30+ dogs........ the intake is the first Monday of the month, bring your vaccination certificate and your membership money $10 includes insurance and membership of Caboolture Sports Club of which we are part of. Leave your dog at home on that first night, you will learn the ground rules, appropiate footwear etc; the correct way of putting on a check chain etc; You will also see a short demonstration of obedience from dogs with various degrees of training. Class one and two is an eight week course. promotion from class one to two is automatic. Promotion to class 3 dog has to be stable on the sit, down and stand stays and be doing an automatic sit and an on lead recall. Class three is the beginning of preperation for off lead, so more emphasis on stability in stays, off lead recalls etc; Class four should incorporate a lot of off lead work, including figure of eights etc; in preperation for trialling. Promotion from class 4 to 5 is by doing the inter club proficiency test or by entering a CCD trial. Club contact: Chris Pain 0404 052 579 The other alternative is Teamwork Dog Obedience run by Alex and Maureen Greenhaugh.... held on a Sunday morning at the Caboolture Police Youth Club Ph: 07 3410 7026 Hope this helps you.
  6. Border Collie, no photo available at the moment. He is such a loveable, highly sociable puppy with temperment to die for....... I am reluctant to just rehome him.
  7. Apart from raising food and water bowls, is there anything else that can be done to help it along? it's not severe, he is 7 months old. Would strapping it help any?

  10. I would love some advice of what to do and I am completly open to some (constructive) personal critisism as I know I have made some mistakes along the way. I'm just not sure of what to do from here. One member here has kindly recommended a private trainer which I am looking into however I don't know if that will help with the above problem. A private trainer in a one on one situation is what you need, to get the problem sorted, and then perhaps you will be able to get her under control so that you can begin socialising her (maybe just one on one with another dog to begin with) hopefully you will get enough control over her so that you can come back to an obedience class. DO NOT leave the problem for any longer, something needs to be done NOW, for both you and the dog. All the very best, Sue
  11. Huski, Ipswich Dog Obedience club holds an ET at the end of July, even though your dogs are ANKC registered you will also have to join. You have to get the dog to the vet for a clean bill of health too prior to doing the ET. At the end of the test there is very basic obedience test, heel on lead, sit, stand, drop and I think there was a short off lead recall. Costs about $20 to compete. Sue
  12. What the ?? OP was asking for what brush to use to get out undercoat, to which we replied they way we did as no brush I use is suitable for this breed IMO, so I suggested a metal comb. And you'll find this dog is not shown Whoops! My apologies, I didn't read it properly. Sue
  13. Excuse me.........the question posed was 'what brush?' nothing mentioned about comes or strippers! You want a dog in full coat for showing.... not stripped out!
  14. Why don't you try saying drop or down instead of lay? Be a little firmer about it too....
  15. I used a good bristle brush, then to finish off put a nylon stocking over the brush and go over the dog again with that and it brings up the gloss, that's all I used to use when I was showing them.
  16. I have used Proban now for almost 12 years, have not noticed any side effects, I also know a breeder who gives it to his bitches right through the pregnancy. All his dogs are fine and don't seem to have any effects from it. Sue
  17. Yes, I have used it now for 10 years with no problems at all, but it does work out expensive, Some vets sell it for up to $90, I get it through Vet Products Direct for $53 per 100 bottle. 1 tablet per 10 kilogram bodyweight, every second day for paralysis ticks.
  18. Persistance, Patience and Perseverence.............. It took me 20 months of hard work to get my boy to retrieve. Some dogs just don't naturally retrieve. Hang in there, Sue
  19. Couldn't of worded it better myself!!!!! Sue
  20. I would go with the Mars coat king or a Furminator, don't shave it all off! She's lovely.
  21. Yes, I have heard of him and I have watched him work with the dogs......... That's all I will say about him as I have no desire to critise him or his work.
  22. Always on the move, using a piece of food to guide the dog down into the correct position. Get a good straight 'pancake' drop this way. Don't usually have to use the check chain, dog is usually keen to respond to the food. With bigger dogs we recommend sliding the hand down to the collar/check chain and putting the dog down into position. I don't use the sit and then into the down unless it is a great dane or saint bernard, who seem to have difficulty with the exercise
