  1. Freezing cold and I have a litter due next week. Due to having a houseful of visitors the whelping area has to be in an unheated part of the house.

I have a lamp but thinking I will also need some type of heat pad. Tried a snugglesafe last night but it didn't even hold heat for 6 hrs.

What is the best/ most economical type of heat pad that will do the job?

  2. I also haven't found the part about where you have to have a kennel complex. In fact the breeder code states a house or room or backyard is fine as gives min sizes for forementioned areas required by diff size dogs. They say you need a separate whelping area but it can be a room in a house.

  3. How horrific for the owner and the poor little dog.

Having owned a dog that was both HA and DAt I know what a huge responsibility it it to keep the public safe from them. As much as I loved Spud was a huge load off my mind when he died at 13, to know he would never be a threat to anyone again. I will never own an aggressive dog again.

I would never have allowed a gap of any kind no matter how small in my fences. He was behind 7ft corrugated iron fencing plus it was dble gated to even get to the backyard. I hope this moron who owned the dog wises up before another dog (or worse) gets hurt.

  4. I'm trying to imagine a Chinese Crested in Brokeni Hill  Litres of sunscreen in Summer and a wardrobe of wonderful coats in Winter.

    Photos please :provoke:

Well see that's just it. Because he was left out in the backyard before coming to rescue his skin has gone very dark, it's like a suntan they get so it protects their skin, he only needs sunscreen on his nose. Plus they aren't Into sunbathing like the iggies are.

    Bowie

  5. I have shocked myself by deciding to keep my current foster, a hairless Chinese crested. Bowie just seemed to fit in the moment he arrived. He s also such an easy dog he never really feels like extra work.

I decided to keep Bowie because I fell in love with him and can't bear to part with him. It was a much easier decision than I thought it would be.

  6. This poor dog breaks my heart he's on that lovely site ppl sell everything on we all love so much. Free to good home.. He looks young and beautiful. Poor baby

I know it's a long shot but had to ask... His DOB is 1/12/2012 just a baby

This is what' the say about him:

    URGENT

Hi everyone, we have a beautiful (Koolie-breed) pup named Dice that is looking for a home.

Sadly he is blind and deaf BUT he is such an affectionate dog. He is great with kids and other dogs. He is very smart, and gets around on his own as he is aware of his surroundings once he is settled at a place. He would make a great companion or lap dog for the right person. If you know of anyone that can give him a home please, please please let me know. When you see him, you'll fall in love with him straight away.

I am doing everything I can to avoid Dice getting put down.

Feel free to pass this on. Thank you ♥

  7. Interesting that 2 have been found. You'd have thought they'd all stick together in a pack.

If I was closer I'd be out there looking.

ETA I just checked out that FB page...seems they are doing all they can to find them, heaps of people are on the case

Not if they were terrified they'd have just take off running like crazy and by the time they stopped they'd have been on their own.

  8. I never vaccinate for KC, it's useless, Dogs still get KC even if they are vacc'd. Kind of like the flu vac for us, it's last years strain you are being vacc'd against.

I vacc my pups with a C3 and never anything more. A pup I bred recently went to a home in Nth QLd where they gave him a "Lepto" vacc on the vets advice. I had never heard of this vaccine until now.

  9. One of the oddest names I've heard is a rescue italian greyhound named Bella that was renamed Joyce by her owner.. Joyce???? Weirdest name for an IG in my opinion.

I generally name my dogs with names that aren't too common, though I did name one dog Diva because it suited her to a T even tho it's a common name.

Names I don't really like are the mega common ones like Roxy, Bella, Max, Rocky, Toby, Lucy and so on, I'd never name my dog any of those names.

I also like to kind of make themes with my dogs names, for example 3 of them have goddess names - Nyx, Luna and Venus. Also have a Fluke and a Karma cos they seemed like they went together. My most recent Male IG is named Dali after the artist so will prolly name my next male IG after another famous artist as well - not sure why it's just something i like the theme thing heh.

  10. After reading the animal welfare code for breeding dogs I can't see where it says the dogs must be kept on concrete? It actually gives you the space requirements for a socialized pack of dogs living in a "backyard or house". So seems you don't have to have a kennel complex.

Some of the rules can be dealt with but others are ridiculous and I resent that I'd have to pay an annual licensing fee. Also Im not keen on allowing a stranger access to my dogs just so they can tick the box saying they are cared for appropriately.

I also don't understand why a dog that's under 40cm at the shoulder has to have fences of 180cm height? The fences between my dog yards aren't quite that tall as I don't need them to be. So I'd have to waste money raising the height of the fences. My outside fences are 7ft, it's just the fencing between the yards that isn't tall enough I have no prob with high perimeter fencing.

Just a stupid waste of money and effort that would seem to encourage more litters to be bred to cover the additional costs.

ETA also we would have to have all theses stupid policy documents like how to swiftly remove an animal from the 'facility' .. Umm carry it out the door .. Gawd. Beyond stupid.

  11. As a reg breeder who runs a breed rescue I have come up against the anti breeder sentiment with other rescuers before. I generally just laugh and shake my head at their ignorance. Unfortunately even some rescuers I really respect have an underlying resentment of breeders, it's frustrating but what can you do? I try to ignore it as best I can. I find it ironic given that its a breed rescue where do the ppl in breed rescue think their breed comes from?

  12. Wow just read everything and I think it will mean I will have to give up breeding. My dogs all live in the house do it would mean constructing kennels I would never use, plusI'd have to put in a septic system? That would surely cost me a fortune. As well as a continuous supply ofwater to said kennels .. Lovely way to throw money away when you live in an arid area. How do they expect small hobby breeders such as myself to afford this??
