  1. I will be at kcc on Sat, (Havanese) and can pick some up next week too, thanks heaps .
  2. I think you have to have the attitude that the best revenge is to win I have had some nasty dobbing in crap done to me, councils, RSPCA and have come out on top, the more crap I get, the more determined I am to stay on top :D :D A show friend once said to me "cream always rises to the top" and I think of that phrase often.
  3. A little brag My baby Havanese Rhumderry Walkin in Indiana got Baby in show! , nearly didnt go because of the rain, a friend rang me and said its inside so I went! Very glad I did
  4. Lets hope common sense prevails and we are inside
  5. Havanese please, lovely nature, non shed and not yappy!
  6. I have not yet been to Bulla, I am glad Toys are inside, a lot of Toy owners are in the older age bracket and it is difficult to put up Gazebos etc, and yes at the old showgrounds Toys were always inside.

    Havanese

QUESTIONS 1. What is my relationship with the breed? (ie breeder, first time owner etc) I show and breed Havanese. 2. Where and why was the breed first developed? Cuba as Lap dogs for the rich ladies, later to herd poultry. 3. How common is it in Australia? There are a few being shown, still a rare breed though. 4. What is the average lifespan? Up to around 15 years. 5. What is the general temperament/personality? Fun loving, Playful, Affectionate, Intelligent. 6. How much daily exercise is needed for the average adult? Havanese do not need long walks but love to go out to socialise. 7. Is it a breed that a first time dog owner could easily cope with? Yes. 8. Can solo dogs of this breed easily occupy themselves for long periods? Some can, some can't, as with most breeds. 9. How much grooming is required? As Havanese are low shed dogs pets need to be clipped off with regular brushing twice weekly and bathing will keep them in nice condition. Show dogs require a lot of brushing when in full coat, trimming is minimal though. 10. Is it too boisterous for very small children or for infirm people (unless the dog is well trained)? They are lively, but as they are small it is usually not an issue. 11. Are there any common hereditary problems a puppy buyer should be aware of? Yes, P.R.A., H.D., Elbows, Slipping Patellas, (Dwarfism)Chondrodysplasia 12. When buying a puppy, what are the things you should ask of the breeder? (eg what health tests have been done (if applicable) and what is an acceptable result to those tests so the buyer has an idea of what the result should be) At least 1 parent should have good Hip/Elbow scores and Patellas checked, Clear Eye Certificates.
  8. Nuala Brown has a hydrobath for sale on d.o.l.
  9. Thanks for that info, I must have a look. Cheers
  10. If the dogs are x rayed they should be also scored, my are done by Dr. Wyburn in W.A. they are given a score and it is available for my puppy purchasers to see. As far as I know the other Lagotto breeders that x ray send them to him as well so that you can compare accurately.
  11. I probably should have but I would mainly like to hear from Lagotto breeders and owners, Iwould like to "compare notes" .
  12. O.K. I will get the ball rolling. I was told by a reputable person that some of the early Lagotti imported into Australia had scores as high as 60! This is very high, as a comparison my Lagotto have been scored at between 7 to 10. The higher the score the worse the hip displacia. In some of the nordic countries I believe that hip scoring is compulsory and by doing it they have reduced the incidence of H.D. I feel new breeders here need to be aware and do some research about the subject! Please do not take this as critisism, my motives are for the betterment of Lagotto!
  13. Hi Guys. I would like to open up some discussion on hip displacia, it seems some people are not aware that there is a problem in the Lagotto!
