You and me both BB ... Im still  ... Hesa, I started to whisper in her ear, and she turned and gave me such an evil stare, I ran away, in fear of my life

Still :D

Hi Guys, *creeps in very quietly* I have taken onboard what everyone has said, especially those with FAR more knowledge than I have, and I am happy with how things are progressing, (or are'nt as the case may be ;) )... I have decided that the thermometer I have been using, despite it being brand new, isnt working properly, perhaps its a degree out. That would make sense :D I have quite possibly bought the only broken thermometer in the Chemist the other day So no more temperature taking !!! I have had her on my lap this afternoon, and I have felt some pretty vigorous 'football' games going on , so Im happy that the puppies are doing fine ;) ... Now I have a bit of a confession to make too . When I calculated Ochre's due date, (she only had the one mating, after prog testing), I put down her due date as the 26th June. Well actually its the 29th June ... The reason I did that is cos I was 'warned' by a number of Basenji breeders that the greater majority of B's tend to whelp closer to day 60 than 63. Then when we saw 6 puplets on the xray last Monday, that was also another thing that would possibly make her whelp earlier, the big litter. Well true to Basenji form I reckon that Ochre is going to make everyone a liar, (and B's are VERY good at doing that, I can assure you ;)), and she will probably go over 63 days ;) ... I have spoken to my Vet today, and I am happy that everything is fine with Ochre. I will come back in when things start happening, and it just might be in the July thread

Ok.. Now Im shite scared ;) Thanks mercedes, now the panic button has just been pushed Im going off to make dinner now, Im sure she will be happy to help me eat it ;) Will do temp again about 10.30pm, until then and for the hoomans ;) BTW thanks for the reminder... You think you have it all clear in your mind, then as the panic sets in, you just cant remember a damn thing, can you ??? Where did you get that from, could you post a linky pweeease . Time to do some swatting

Yes, that's them. BTW, you can order from Petz Central with total confidence. They are a young Tasmanian couple (Michael and Erenie) who show an Amstaff. He is confined to a wheelchair as a result of an accident and Erenie pushes him around the ring so that he can handle his bitch Gia himself. She recently won the last points for her title! You beat me to it Ellz I just want to second what Ellz said. A nicer couple you couldnt find. They love their girl and have only just started to show, and they, and Gia looooove the ring... This was a new business, something they could both do together. Ereni tossed her job in to concentrate on getting it up and running. They are also sponsoring a lot of our shows down here too...

Sorry Shelby, I meant to answer this earlier No Im not that buggered yet !!! So Im guessing that if I do become that tired, then the bubbies will make an enterance ;) GREAT Temp was 36.2 at 4pm... Im getting so with what she is doing ;) ... I guess they will be here sometime in the next week wont they

OK... Now you are all scaring me Still :D here though...

Thank you to everyone for the info, I do really appreciate it, (still hoping peeps will still reply in this thread, though !!!)... It seems that having my last litter about 6-7 years ago, has stopped my repro knowledge at that level ... I thought I was pretty up on things, clearly I wasnt .... It appears that I am pretty much very behind in my info re this. Everything about this pregnancy has been soooooooooo different to my last few litters, its been an incredible learning curve . TeamSnag, you gave a teaspoon to your bitch, roughly what weight would she be, so I can work out what I would give my girl ??? Peaceful, your info makes perfect sense... I know that there is no Oxytocin till after the first baby, is it the same with the calcium, none till first pup is born ??? Ellz, all I can say is "THANK DOG" you will be on hand for me, in the middle of the night while this is all going on... My voice of reason, Mr R, is working nights, he has another 2, so expecting her to get going either tonight or tomorrow night :D Thinking the EEK emoticon will be used a lot when things start ... ETA... I do have 2 doses of Oxytocin on hand, I really hope I wont need it
-
Temp was 36.3 this am, but I dont know if I really trust whats its telling me . Still ate her breaky, so not expecting anything to start today
-
Thanks everyone for the input, I really appreciate it. It certainly is being used far more widely than I thought... Christina what you have stated is absolutely my belief too, BUT, maybe I am being outdated, and calcium is the way to go. It does seem to divide people in their thinking... The way my Vet explained it, (and I need to say this wasnt a repro Vet, just a G.P Vet ), was by giving calcium during the whelping process, can interfere with the bitches ability to produce her own adequate amounts of calcium, directly after delivery, so leaving her a sitting duck for problems... Her body is expecting the calcium supps to continue, so it takes a while for her to start producing her own calcium . The other thing she mentioned was it takes so long for the body to process the oral calcium, its of little use at the time when the bitch needs it... The more I read, the more Im confused Ok, so if I am going to go with the calcium, what would be the min and max mls I could give her, if she needs s bit of an urge along ??? Its for a Basenji bitch about 10 kilo's normally, or 12kgs on Mondays weigh in...
-
I am totally confused about whether to have calcium on hand for the delivery of my expected litter, or not... I just cant decide It seems that a lot of people are starting to use it AFTER the delivery of the first pup, as a nicer alternative to Oxytocin. Just when the bitch is seeming a bit tired, after pushing for a while etc, etc... I dont like calcium given to any dog as an additive, at all. Long story, but I over-supplmented a puppy bitch, ACD, with it, and at 6 months she was diagnosed with OCD, which may or may not have been caused by our over-use of it, as well as environmental and perhaps a genetic predisposition to it as well I now have a real thing about giving it at all... Thoughts and ideas please ??? Help me to decide if I need to buy some tomorrow ...
-
Mmmmm... Im doing the same thing mercedes :D I dont think anything will happen for a day or two, she scoffed her dinner tonight, and is as normal s a Basenji can be
-
Ok, as soon as I was brave enough to go to bed, Ochre decided to have a 10 minute flurry of activity of nesting, in our bedroom cupboard etc. After this finished, she came up onto the bed, and was quite settled for the rest of the night Temp was 37.4 this am. Only picked at breakfast, but otherwise she is calm and settled ;) Thanks for the suggestion about the cardboard box to be a makeshift one... We actually have the whelping box made, so to speak, its just that the roll bars are'nt in, and there is no door in it :D ... Now its just the horrible waiting, waiting, waiting game !!!
-
Thanks Chocolate I was just thinking about going to bed, and cos Richard is doing night duty, someone, (dog I mean :D ), always comes to bed with me on those nights ;) ... Now I think Im too scared to go, in case she decides to go tonight, and do what your girl has done ;) ... Have your girls presented you with your litters yet ??? Im guessing that one of them just delivered this litter you are talking about ??? I just took Ochres temp again, just before we go to bed, and she is now 36.9, is it time to start panicing yet :D ;) ;) ...
-
Yep the whelping box is 'nearly' ready... Do you think that is good enough ... Mr Rajacadoo is starting night duty tonight, so nothing at all will be done on it till Thursday pm... I have told Ochre that she isnt to do ANYTHING at all till after he has finished his night duty... Of course she nodded in agreement, then turned around and laughed at me ... I dont get it !!! Yep got most of the stocks for me ready to go, just a shame Im so puter illiterate that I havent got a clue how to do the pics, so that they will have to wait. Will update as the L>>>O>>>N>>>G night wears on... Pretty positive she will deliver at night ...
-
Ok thanks guys... Off to do the first temp ... Mmmmm 37.4 at 5.15pm
