  1. Why 12 months for a Cattle Dog, and 18 months for a Kelpie No ACD should be mated at 12 months, they are neither mentally, and certainly not physically, mature enough at 12 months ... Basenji at 18 months, yep, Im ok with that...
  2. Ohhhhhhhhhh yes, I hear all your pain... I think my guys have all had about 10 different owners each, since they were born . I am getting cancellations, (usually cos Ive been the one to flick off the email, to see where people are at ), only to be told, if Im lucky, that no longer are interested... Im struggling to work out which pup is possibly going to who . Im sure the list I have now, will completely change by next week !!! I do have 3 pretty committed people/owners though, and for them I am really thankful :D
  3. Thanks for the replies guys... Mmmm, reducing her food is a good idea too. She still has a lot of milk, and I think I am still feeding her as though she is still pregnant/feeding. So down to her normal diet ... Not sure she will think this is a good idea though !!! The happy family is running around the loungeroom, so she is able to get up on the couch to get away from them... I do really want her to keep interacting with them, teaching them manners etc, etc... Would you believe just after I posted this, the pups woke up, went to Mum for a drink, and she grumbled at them, 3 in a row. So 3 dejected little cuties wandered off, most bewildered looking !!! Im going to get her back into her normal routine as well, and she will be sleeping away from the pups, from tonight :p . Im sure she will think this is a good idea, Im sure the pups wont ;) ...
  4. I havent had a litter for a long time, till now, so Im feeling quite rusty . I have nearly 6 week old pups here, who I am in the process of weaning... Mum has had enough, and I think she is feeding them periodically, because its just easier than constantly running away from the little blighters . I want them to continue to be in the house together, but Im just not sure how to stop them from 'attacking' her boobs, everytime she moves, the poor darling ??? I think she is a little too nice to them, as she isnt telling them off... They are being fed 4 times a day, and are happily drinking water. Anyone got some idea's to help stop them feeding, or do I just have to wait till she really has had enough ???
  5. I guess a ban on showing baby puppies will be next ...
  6. Well my widdle munchkins will be 5 weeks old on Sunday... We took them outside both yesterday and today, for about 10-15 mins, and they loooove it. Yesterday just after we put them on the grass, 6 little Basenji bottoms were squatting down to do a poo ... So cute, wish I had a pic of that !!! They are all doing really well. Mums only really giving them a top-up drink about 4-5 times a day now... They are eating really well, pooing really well, (wish Mum liked cleaning up the poo still, though :D ), and doing everything they should, and some things they shouldnt !!! They are at the really lovely stage now where I can start to see the little personalities coming out in them too. Oh, and we have a barker in the group, (Basenji's apparently dont bark, [except for the very occasional yip, that some may do]... Nobody told my Saba that ). I think its the big girl, but Im not 100% sure, cos she is only doing it when nobody is around ... Vaccinations at about 8 weeks, eye tests about 9 weeks, new homes about 10 weeks . I will miss them a lot...
  7. More Tassie healing vibes from us to Jed ... Think of you daily and send healing thoughts to you daily, as well...
  8. Well wish me luck, waiting for Mr rajacadoo to come home with the puppy goodies, and Im going to introduce the puppies to a 'pink slushie' ;) . They are weeks and 4 days today...
  9. Couldnt agree with you more Max... Fantastic weekend for Katelyn. One she wont forget for quite sometime, I would think :D Watching the State Junior Handler Finals on Saturday was FANTASTIC... Glad to see the kids get a good audience, and tons of cheering as well
  10. I too would very interested in one of these, as I have my first co-ownership about to happen
  11. Thank you :p That was the only thing I could think of, but it just seemed to be too simplistic, so I was trying to rack my brains to come up with another reason for it, but was stumped ... Im guessing that boiling the rice in the water that the chook was cooked in, defeats the purpose, doesnt it ... No I didnt do it, but thought about it
  12. My young Basenji bitch has just been diagnosed with Gastro, so she has been put on the boiled chicken and rice diet, till all settles down. Cant for the life of me find out why the chicken needs to be boiled ??? My OH asked me this, and I didnt know the answer. The only thing I can think of, is to remove the potential 'bugs' in/on the chicken . Can someone enlighten me please, cos its starting to irritate me ...
  13. FINALLY on day 15 we have some action on the eyes opening up... Yaaaay The littlest one has some eyeballs protruding through those little glued shut lids ...
  14. Cattle Dog eyes are usually between 8-10 days. Basenjis on the other hand are just sooooooooooooooooooooooo slow . I have 15 day old Basenji pups here and today I have finally seen the very first one beginning to open . I cant wait till the eyes are open on all of them, they become little individuals when that happens, I think !!!
  15. Yep I got it this am, was deleted VERY quickly
  16. Oh me too, me too... Cept I want a boy one
  17. Yep I have very fond memories, (NOT !!!), of the sticky, stinky, pink gloop going everywhere. So looking forward to Sunday Just out of curiosity what brands do people use ???
  18. I feel like Im being left behind ... You guys are all so far ahead of me !!! When Mr R comes home he is bringing those baby nail clippers, so Iwill be doing their nails tonight, AND, I am also worming them on Sunday, cos they are 2 weeks then... Ochre is still doing a great job with them, they are doing everything they should be, stacking on the weight etc, etc... Cant wait for their eyes to open, none look anywhere near that yet, though...
  19. Well my red/white slugs will also be a week old tomorrow . They are doing well, all have doubled their weight by day 5 or 6, which really surprised me . Ochre is doing so well, very proud of her, as a first time mother... I have put pics of them up on my website, which is www.langarni-rajacadoo.com taken at 4 days ...
  20. All is well here at rajacadoo, or in this case, I should say Langarni :D ... Ochre and the bubbies are all doing well. Just as I suspected, Ochre has taken to motherhood sooo quickly, and so well. I will try to get some pics up tomorrow about lunchtime, I hope ... Chocolate I wish you had have warned me, cos I barely saw any stage 1, and it wasnt till the delivery of the last pup, that I actually saw her have a contracton at all . Believe me I was looking for them... Absolutely bizarre whelping process/experience, Im still smiling and shaking my head at the delivery of all of them except the last, at least I knew she was coming... I said to Mr rajacadoo, I think she might have just had a contraction, (about a minute before she delivered the first), then I said, 'no I dont think it was', which was followed by a squeal, then a pup... Gosh they really are such odd little creatures arent they :D ...
  21. How did you know chocolate Well finally Ochre did decide to finally have the little ones, meaning we stayed in the June thread ;) ... She gave us absolutely NO warning that she was anywhere near having them, when suddenly, on my chair, with me sitting on the edge, she screamed like Ive never heard a dog scream before, and there was a baby . I nearly pooped myself Anyway, the long and the short of it, is we have 6 gorgeous little red/white babies, 2 boys for me to choose from, and 4 little girls... Mum and bubs doing fine, Im knackered
  22. Well Im still WAITING, WAITING, WAITING... And Im damn sick of this waiting, I can tell you Still sipping coffee, waiting, waiting, waiting... My life is on hold, while I wait, wait, wait... I guess you get the picture :D . When I wrote before, as a joke, about ending up in the July thread, I really was joking, NOT anymore... After all this there is absolutely NO frigging way she will whelp in the civilised daylight hours, Basenji's just dont/wont do THAT Mercedes, if there is no action by tomorrow, we are going to take her 4 wheel driving in some of the back roads around here, (believe me, I could find some doozies ;)), following up with large quantities of castor oil, and then Mr R can take her for a 10 mile hike... If nothing happens afte that, Im leaving home
  23. Well done, and sooo very civilised that Jess whelped in the daytime, Ive never yet experienced that ;)
