  1. Hey Openarms......Sorry I dont have any Kennel recomendations as Im in WA....Just wanted to let you know that I know exactly how you feel!! We have two dogs that are occasionally kenneled...One (the kelpie) is fine - pretty much likes to run things, and it doesnt bother her! Our ridgy girl is a big anxious sook, sounds alot like you girl...Love her nickname, gave me a chuckle When our girl is at the kennels though she is fine... Feedback from the kennel owner, who weve become friends with, says she behaves and eats normally, and even plays with other dogs!!! I guess because she isnt at home without me (when she does get anxious!!!!!) she isnt really worried....Which in turn, makes me quite ok with her being there! She does however turn into a complete idiot when we arrive to take her home Maniacal is probably a good word to describe her...LOL!!! I hope you find a lovely understanding kennel in your area, and your dogs deal with all okay
  2. With all this talk about sugar cravings, I now feel like some chocolate Well Ive been enjoying the first week of my holiday doing absolutely bugger all!!! Been for some nice walks with my two girls though Last night Zola decided to start counter, or rather sink surfing and ingested the plastic covering off a meat tray! Took her a sneaky 20 seconds little bugger!!! Rang my vet, who suggested keeping an eye on her and feeding her softish foods for the next few days.... This morning she decided to regurgitate the piece of plastic in a lovely pool of yellow gack Bloody dog!!! Thankfully she is ok now and shows no signs of ever having eaten the offending bit of stuff!!!!!
  3. :D Oh Raelene, I am so, so sorry about your girl................ My heart goes out to you and your family. for you all.....
  4. Good to EI My two get a yearly needle...Havent had any dramas as yet, and my vet is pretty onto that sort of thing (probsl with the vacc that is), so will continue with that..Used to give the monthly chews, but was always forgetting them!!
  5. Raelene - Sorry to hear about you staffy girl....I dont venture in here too often, reminders of my girl still bring me to tears. :cry I hope your girl has a positive outcome, and Id be interested to see what the vet has to say about it! Was the lump on the same side as her amputated leg??? Do they think its related?? I only ask as our girl hit a wire I reckon about 2 or 3 years before she was diagnosed...We wondered at the time whether the trauma had anything to do with it!! Ive seen 2 three legged dogs in the last few months. One at our vet surgery - that made me burst into tears quite unexpectedly, and the other at Bunnings....He was cute as and I couldnt resist giving him a snuggle Both dogs had forelegs missing....seems to really get me in the heart!!!
  6. I think the hazard of giving heartworm treatment without a test first (which is an on-the-spot-test Im sure ) is that if there is an infestation of heartworm, they can die which causes blockage problems in veins, arteries and perhaps lungs and heart.......Better to be safe than sorry!! Definitely worth a phonecall just in case
  7. Thanks ABC - well, they are both gorgeous I like Bullarabs too!!
  8. Oh, Ive got one of those too, has a ridge though Now the embarrassing question - Are they Mastiff, Bulmastiff, English Mastiff or something else.....Never did get the hang of Mastiffs, except the Dogue de Bordeaux ;) And that generally they are big and gorgeous!!
  9. Sounds like me.....Ive got a list of dogs I want.....although I will probably never get any of for one reason or another...Maybe just the pug, a basenji, another bunch of kelpies and ridgies, but I also love GSPs...looking forward to CareyJ's puppy pics LOL!!! French Bulldogs are rather cute too.... :)
  10. Thanks corvus! That is great to know!! Thanks from me too ABC - dogster on rhs of your sig is B-E-A-UTIFUL ;)
  11. Generally known as a "DiNozzo", Aloysha!!! ;) And one from me too!!! Beautiful dogs ABC
  12. They certainly are boxagirl!! Hope you did ok for your psych test.....I know I wouldnt pass in a fit, far too wussy :D Geez, I probably wouldnt pass the physical either..LOL! We had a great time Mas!! No more free runs for the kelpie - until after her brain walk anyway
  13. :p Just had the best walk yet with my two dogs!!! Cesar style I think its the only walk weve ever been on when the kelpie has been on the lead the whole time and by my side....LOL Usually once we hit the bush she is off lead and does her own thing - but is always in sight....Today I decided to do a structured walk for them both after watching Cesar Milan all arvo......Was only half an hour, they both stayed by my side the entire way, and now the ridgeback is guts up sound alseep while the kelpie is "just resting" His way of walking certainly makes them use alot more energy, oh and Im knackered too!!! It took ridgeback about 5 minutes to "get it", stay by my side and you wont get corrected........kelpie took just a little longer - about half the walk, but then she is not usually on lead All in all I was very pleased with our outing, we dealt with kangaroos on our outing, which they both ignored after a couple of corrections and then sheepies on our way up the driveway, which the kelpie ignored after a couple of corrections also :p . Ridgeback doesnt give a toss about sheep - they are not roos :D *My "corrections" are a quick tug on the lead, just connects with the dog............nothing sinister, and yes they both wear check chains
  14. While a few of us here think that a day is nowhere near long enough for a dog to settle into a new home, given Mason2009 says she doesnt have the knowledge or experience to deal with the situation I think she has done the right thing.....by Chance, Mason and herself & OH....She knows her own strengths, and there is no point in being out of your depth!! Especially when it involves living creatures In saying this Im certainly not bagging you guys AT ALL!!!! I admire the hell out of people who could and would take on a dog whatever the case and have a happy ending...Certainly I would love to think I could, but I have my doubts! We dont all have the personality to deal with recalcitrant teenage puppies!!! Knowledge wise I could deal maybe with it, but dont know if I could handle the stress.............but I havent been in that situation of adopting a teenage dog Anyway I just wanted to reassure Mason2009 that whatever she did, she did the right thing for her!! I didnt want her to feel that she gave up too soon, or anything else....anyway Im rambling now....Ill shut up.... :D ;)
  15. He will probably be fine with another dog, the problem is mason is very very soft so any dog i get is likely to be the boss. I will probably end up keeping him as an only dog i think. He was stressed out on the weekend and has ended up with hotspots, never knew allergies can be affected by stress. Poor Mason Hope his hotspots are better soon.....Zola doesnt handle stress very well either M2009, and her tummy gets very upset if stressed at all....This can be from a vet visit, me being away for a couple of days or her being at the kennels, even just overnight! Stress can cause all sorts of troubles in a stressy dog poor buggers! I hope Chance finds the right home, where he can be trained to be a well mannered & behaved beasty!! Is Mason ok other than his hotspots?????
  16. Any news on Whip today????? Hope he found his way home, or was found...Poor boy!
  17. Ooh, Ill be checking this video out tonight Shortstep!!! Will be interesting to see how the Brazilians work their dogs! Bit disappointed they use BCs and not Kelpies .....LOL I wish one of the ABC channels would televise Sheepdog trials on a regular basis...I would watch all the time!
  18. Sounds like you have quite a project ahead of you Mason........Just remember to be consistent and firm, and give them time out from each other and time by themselves with you guys....I reckon the first week or two will be the hardest...
  19. I feel for you CC, and others that have had to rehome beloved dogs.....must be one of the hardest things to do...... Mason - how exciting for you guys!!! Lucky Mason hey!! Im off to the WaginWoolorama tomorrow - hope to get there early enough to see some sheep dogs at work Geez, did anyone just see that disgusting story about using meat glue to stick together meat scraps for human consumption on TT???? I never watch the show, but happened to see the ad...........What a disgrace I seriously cant believe what the food industry is coming to!!
  20. hang in there LR it can be done..... proof in the Xolos ! lol Havent given up WX, just been very slack!! She has improved slightly with the bit I have done! I must email poor Garth and tell him we are going along ok - he probably thinks were another lost cause LOL!!! She will actually tolerate being hugged now while wagging her tail and without pulling away - so we have actually moved forward! Was good to see you and the crew on Friday too!
  21. Ptolomy - Dont think Ive tried another handler, not so sure it would change her :D OsOSwift & Emery - Yep, tried with her normal collar and "walkies" lead....When I try to stack her, no go.... Im not so worried, she'd only be in the neuter class, which is one whole class each year ;) so I dont really care one way or the other. Was just a maybe, but now a not..LOL, may take her for a social outing instead...She really is just a anxious boofer!!! Ive been far too little work with her regarding her anxieties, but with 8 weeks off soon, I intend to up that training and really help her (and me) out! I would like to take her back to training too, but it will take time
  22. No worries ncarter.......Im sure there were people I said I would try and track down and didnt!!!! There will be other shows :p Were you carrying round a Papillion???? If so - I saw you! But it just didnt click....I am blonde you see ;) Next show Ill be at will be the Ridgy Club show on the 30th April, if anyone else is showing other breeds that day. Just had a pretendy run with Zola to see if her attitude had changed, but as soon as I put her show collar on, down came the ears and the attitude changed almost instantaneously....so I may take her for a social outing, but wont be showing Shes such a dag! Not even food or cutesy noises will change her demeanour...Oh, well
  23. Oh dear!!! No good!!!! Hope the judge is better today!
  24. Had a great 2 nights at the Classic Was really nice to meet some new DOLers and dogs and finally put some faces to names. Sorry I didnt get back with cake last nite, we went down and watched Agility ( how great was that to watch!!!) and then headed off about 10ish...didnt want to disturb anyone as it looked pretty intense out there! Met some nice dogs - a couple of gorgeous Kelpie pups, a beautiful little livernosed ridgy girl a wonderful small red hairy one, and got to catch up with some friends But I am sooooo tired...Just about to head back to bed as I have to work tonight (oh, joy ) Hope the next two nights go well for everyone, goodluck to you all
  25. Not sure what advert that would be useful for, but that's a damn good trick Toilet tissue of course! (Just in case there is a follow through ) :)
