  1. I use a Double K Airmax and its great for large double coated breeds. Not sure how it compares to any other brands like Liberty but would be interested to know, Ive been looking at the Liberty ULTRAFORCE MK 2 or 3 . Anyone used these ones?
  2. Do you decline dogs with contagious things, Im my case its one dog who isnt treated for it, (Severe Ringworm I mean) Im thinking I might ask them to treat it before bringing her back because I dont want to run the risk of my other clients dogs catching it. And I do disinfect very thoroughly but I still worry about it. What do you draw the line at?
  3. Yes it does but its worth it isnt it Clyde Knowing my pets are as fit and well as they can be is "priceless" lol Actually at $11 a tablet from the vet, it wasnt that expensive compared to online. I saw the same tab selling for between $8-$10 plus postage so $11 & no post isnt so bad afterall.
  4. Ouch! Are you sure its not fly bites that are bleeding or sunburn that has blistered? It looks like little blisters to me. Is the red in the top pic blood or somehting you put on there? If they dont heal within a few days I'd suggest taking them to the vet for a check up.
  5. Lots of food for thought, thankyou all that replied. It does seem a shame to wait all this time only to skip the hips and just have him desexed, I may get his hips done 1st and then make my decision based on that, Im very curious to see if a good food, controlled growth & exercise will reflect in his Xray scores.
  6. No Ive never shown him which is another reason why I think I shouldnt breed him. I hear people bagging out breeders who dont show and I'd hate to be one of them even though reputible breeding is a big interest of mine. As for the hip tests, I have no way of knowing until hes hip scored how good they will be, Its just a feeling I have. He was allways intended as a family pet, put on Main reg so I could show him but with a busy household and lotsa small kids, it just hasnt happened and to be honest, the show scene dosent interest me in the least anymore. I'd hate to put him out to stud and have him be more donimant etc,, I can barely breathe now with all the testosterone!
  7. Ive been giving it alot of thought lately whether or not to get my boy fixed. Hes a St Bernard, Will be 2yrs on 5/9.. Due for hip tests and I believe they will be great numbers! Ive taken every precaution to make sure he grows steadily etc so that I could breed him if I chose, I passed my exam for prefix, now Im thinking breeding may not be right for me at this time. Im really torn, should he get the "snip", I would like him to settle down and Vet says theres a guarantee it will help. Would he be any less dominant after it?? And of course, its made harder because hes lovely and Im sure he would produce beautiful pups!
  8. Lol... When I googled it, my old thread came up and you gave me the same link last time, so thanks again! Im silly........... I totally forgot I asked it allready!
  9. $22 for a consult? OMGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG Mines a great vet but not cheap at like $48 for consult! If you spend like 2K, they might discount the consult fee to like $40 haha I wish my vet had 1980's prices!
  10. Im not being cheap but it just seems alot to only treat Tapeworm is all.
  11. The tablet is Popantal dog All Wormer, (looks more like a horse tablet) $11 a tab but I needed 2. I also use Advocate so I was really only needing one for the Tapeworm. Its darn confusing!
  12. Hello. I was wondering how much people pay for 3mthly All wormers? I was slugged $22 today (granted it was to dose a 80kg dog) and I was wondering what others pay for what brand etc? Id love to try and save some money on pet supplies! Thanks Susan
  13. My dog would have a blast chewing that to bits!! Wouldnt last a hour! lol
  14. Thanks, I will get it checked out next week when I take him for his anual vacc booster, just dont know what would cause it. Its just a firm raised area about 2 inch's round.
  15. Hi My dog Boris (St Bernard) is finally starting to come good from a good 6 week battle with severe ear infections. I noticed after he came home from the vet the last time(17th Dec) he had a lump on his side around the mid rib cage area. He had also lost alot of weight so I thought it may have been a muscle or something made more feelable due to the weight loss. Hs gained a fair bit now and although it hasnt got any bigger, it hasnt decreased either. Its not sore or inflamed or even noticable, (only to the feel) , its a solid mass that I can slightly manipulate and Ive been watching it closely for any changes. Is it possible its just a "clump" of fat under the skin? Theres no wounds at all.. he hasnt injured himself that Im aware of. Any medications that may cause this side effect? He was on several antibiotics and also Prednisolone for a fair while.
  16. Yes, I did mention a sedative but really that would likely make it even worse. A lazy dog sedated = VERY lazy dog lol When I said that I was meaning more like a anti-inflam type, not to make the dog sleepy.. (loosen up his joints ??)
  17. Thanks Christina. If i was able to get clippers on his legs I would have,, they hurt so much even touching his legs was painful. I usually sissor legs but was trying to just use the clippers thinking it would be faster for him, didnt work.
  18. Also thankyou Settrlvr, I feel abit less guilty now of doing a average job, your post was very nice. He did look fine when he left, but not upto my usual standards.
  19. BC, I totally know what you mean about sitting on their hip..... and the belly falls out* lol (was a biggie too) Its kinda cute but sure does make it hard . He still looked nice and neat when he left and nice and short, head was beautiful, legs average unfortunately, but I kinda gave up.. I find the noose on my table gets in the way so Im guessing a waistline support would be even worse?
  20. Thanks, The owner knows all about his pain and excess weight, she did tell me over the phone. I just didnt think it was going to be so bad. I feel awful calling him a fat dog (but he was) Age would be 10-12 she thinks. I will ask her next time about some sort of pain relief being given prior to coming, I got the impression she will become a regular client. I feel like a idiot struggling to groom this boy but he makes it rather difficult with limited movement... and a vet prescribed sedative will make it worse as he's probally sleep lol ( I dont use btw)
  21. HI everyone. Had a new client today who's dog was lovely. However I almost gave up and didnt do his legs due to highly painful to even touch, let along sissor, clipper or brush or lift off the table in the least. I got bitten twice, more like a warning nip , poor thing was in alot of pain so I gave him a rest then tried my best to finish. Made even harder as he wouldnt stand for more than 1 second,., very overweight and I suspect had sore hips area also.. Im not sure what to do, lovely natured dog but it took me a good 3hrs maybe abit less to get him looking ok. I wasnt happy with the end job but it was the best I could do with this boy. Literally couldnt even lift his front legs to do the nails because of the sore/stiff legs. What would you do? Are padded straps any good to help with standing? I dont have any, never had a need till now. Maybe his grooming days are over? Hes a fat Maltese X Havanese
  22. Thanks for that Kathyinjapan, thats what i was looking for and couldnt find it anywhere!
  23. I feed my dog Purina Proplan Proformance. Hubby threw out the bag so I cant see what the feeding guide says for giant breed dogs? I cant find it on the website as to what he should be having? Currently hes havng 3 scoops for breaky and 4 at dinner but they arnet metric cups, more like 1.25 cups each) If anyone has the info i would appreciate it.
