  1. Ive rang the 2 vets, and a after hours emergency vet place in Hallam, 2 of 3 assured me it wasnt classed as a emergency so wait until tomorrow .... (1 local vet and the hallam after hours vet) Tommorrow morning hes going in, (cant even book him in yet as they are closed) but they know hes coming. I am totally stressed, Ive never seen anything like it in my life.... I feel like the worst pet owner right now knowing he has to wait until tomorrow to get it fixed. Im just trying to keep him still as I can and to not shake his head although he barely can anyhow, its just so swollen. They said because its just happened the blood will still be free flowing and draining it today will likely make it keep bleeding or something. I was going to take him up there for his anual vacc's and a weigh in this week, that will have to wait now I think. Dont think they can give the boosters when they are allreasy sick, and his eyes are weeping like mild conjunctavitis (sp?) Perhaps it is all linked! Sorry Im so stressed, putting him under scares me to death, hes my big baby. I feel sick to my stomach. Hes got the most beautiful ears normally, I hope they dont damage them fixing it also.
  2. BC, Do you mean you walk around training your dog with his treats (hotdog or leg ham) in YOUR mouth? Surely that cant be? Im trying to imagine you spitting out bits of food at your dog when hes good!! lmao!
  3. I currently use 100% natural dried liver but its very rich I think and I was wondering what others use? He loves it but we pay for it a few hours later with him (gas.. lol) Thanks in advance
  4. I didnt mention the vet actually, I said I use 2 vets , and never said any names.
  5. You dont think play alone is a valid reason? All I want is him to be calm and he thinks its totally required incase he moves whole hes doing the ear inspection which is why I asked, I think its overkill abit. Feel free not to reply if all you are going to give me is the 3rd degree, I dont feel I disserve that.
  6. Might be time to change vets... The vet bills isnt a issue until it becomes 3 or 4 times the cost because he stirs him up and then wonders why he wont stop still to be looked over , which is why I asked about a sedative of some sort.
  7. Oh he likes dealing with him alright, $$$$$$$$$$$$ The fact that he likes him isnt the issue, its that he plays with him and makes it all the more harder.
  8. I wish. The vet I was talking about, I like him and he seems to know his stuff, he has allways played with him and then says, "well in order to look I will need him sedated" but I think he actually stirs him up to get that responce. And while its cute Im sure and he genuinely seems to like playing with the big boofa, it makes it near impossible to actually treat a basic (something) and it turns a vet bill of perhaps $80-$125? into a full on surgical proceedure and that is alot more costly obviously.. A full sedation will also mean he has to stay there all day until hes fully awake again, theres no way I could carry a sleeping Saint to my wagon. Sorry for my ramble.. Would it be considered rude to ask him to be firm and not revv him up? I am stirn with him (in a lovey dovey kinda way lol) so he generally dosent muck up for me, maybe that would be the way?
  9. I use 2 vets actually, (Main St and Cardinia) One I think is better with my smaller dog and the other is better with the bigger so I use both but I think I will try the other one for my big guy now, they dont hype him up like the other one (in the past) Im not worried about him biting, its just he gets excited and makes it near on impossible for them to look in his ears , 70+kgs is hard to control when hes squirming. I didnt mean put him right under either, sedating as in a calming potion or something. I will look into this rescue remedy. Quick edit, Hes fine with me touching or cleaning his ears, just other people get him excited... hes a puppy still.
  10. I have to take my Saint to the vet to get his ear fixed. There in lies the problem, Im quiet sure its just a yeasty thing but he wont keep still for the vet to have a good look so of course he is going to say he needs to put him under to keep him still..... Should I ask prior for some sort of sedative to make him calm? The problem is he bloody pats him and plays with him and then being a puppy, he gets all excited and wont stand still. Im almost convinced he does it delibretly to make me pay more??? How does making him roll all over the floor getting patted make him calm!! Any ideas?
  11. Omg, I have a friends dog (Border Collie) who also does this to me, or tries these days... I wonder why also?
  12. Bump. Well now I have no idea whether they think I did a good job or not. They wanted their cav top clipped, skirt left very long, legs left very long (too long imo) Belly left long, chest clipped but wanted her to look like a Schnauzer (sp)? Now I looked at them on here and they only have a slight skirt but granted Im looking at show dog pics. The skirt I left was alot longer than in any pics but he seemed pleased with her. I kinda feel like I didnt do it the right way but I did do exactly what they asked for (I think) Anyhow, beautiful old girl, deaf and barely can see with cateracts in both eyes but temperment A+. I want a cavvy now!
  13. "Cavs are like mini Saints" ........... I have a Saint and apart from the mouth area they are verrrryyyyy different lol But I get what you mean, their faces are kinda simular! As for the 5# or 7#, I'll just let them pick! I dont mind showing them the different metal blades so its entirely upto them and if the length isnt what they pictured, they chose it. Edit, Very sorry Dru, I just noticed you also owned a Saint, sorry for your recent loss. (hugs)
  14. Thanks for that, I looked it up in my all breeds book "Notes from the grooming Table" and it dosent really mention clipping at all for that breed so I looked up the breed on dol.
  15. Is it a common request to clip a Cav? I didnt think they were clipped and Ive just been asked to. Any tips would be appreciated. Edit. I googled it and its more common than I thought!
  16. Is a dremel the same sort of nail file that people nail technicians use to file false gal nails? They go around at super high speed! That would be good for grinding!
  17. This perticular dog I am actually talking about, well actually 1 of several. They are a older couple and she told me she "inherited" the 2 dogs recently, and i believe her as I know where she lives and they didnt have dogs until recently. The nails wernt a overnight problem, if you had seen them it wasnt pretty, you could see the nails awful growth had basically disfigured their feet, more so the older dog who had to be 10+, poor baby. They were curled under right from the start of the nail so to fix it they would have to be cut at the base. But, I did my best.
  18. Whats a ACP? Also what exactly does cauterised mean?
  19. God thats awful, I havnt had that happen yet but it probally will. I think I will suggest that they get them cut right back at the vets if the quik is long so I can just maintain it. I think cuttting the quik makes it retract better for the next time also. I just wish people wouldnt let it get so bad in the 1st place, how would they like having ingrown nails? Poor puppies!
  20. Even though they are dreadful, I do give it ago and usually make a huge difference but I feel so bad for the poor dog. You just sorta know that they wont get done again until they come back next time. I blame slack owners and also, alot are living indoors or on grass in all these new estates, nowhere to really grind them down on so they grow and grow and grow......... And great point, I will remember this,,, the pain of doing this dog's nails unsedated may lead him to bite me and I won't risk my health and income".. .you need veterinary intervention. I allready tell people I dont rush, Im quiet slow compared to some but I dont like to rush a dog I dont know or I just might get a chomp! People seem to think thats fair enough too as do I.
  21. Thanks, Sorry I didnt mean to sound rude, just meant that taking the dog to the vet isnt a option "for me" as they arnet my dogs. I cant believe people leave them to get so bad and to date I only take off as much as I can safely do but usually they still look way too long and they probally think I havnt done them. One dogs owner said she usually takes her dog to the VETS GROOMER and they said to her they cant do the nails incase they cut into the quik..... I mean really, how compitent are they if they cannot even take a tiny snip off!! I will not be recommendng that groomer to anyone and they are meant to be professionals!
  22. Thanks but thats not a option when the dog is a client your being paid to groom.
  23. Groomers, What do you do when you see a dog that looks as though its nails have never been trimmed and they are so long its affecting their feet , How do you adequately trim these dogs nails, and the dogs I mean are usually 8-9-10+ yrs old, and really the damage is done over years) And their feet are so tender from curled nails that they really dont want you touching then due to pain) BUT you know you have to because not trimming is what caused the problem in the 1st place??????????
  24. My Malt X Shihtzu bitch was speyed about 10 days ago, and she is humping Boris (my male Saint Bernard) every chance she gets! She is acting quiet strange also, like acting like a cat and making funny sooky groans that I've never heard before! and insisting on sitting on Boris's tail when hes available (hehe) Is this normal? She is a funny little thing......... She wasnt far out of a season when we had her opp done, maybe 3 weeks past its visible finish.
