Really - looking at your video's Daisy looks soooooo keen!!!! We've had 4 sessions today - two I was happy with and two I was disappointed with (just wish I'd finished her session with more drive). That's a small problem to have if you got her into drive and working well to start with even if it was for a short period of time :D Yes, do, especially if it's hot She was two when we started doing TID and that meant she had two years of learning the best way to get drive satisfaction was by putting her nose to the ground and scenting. Daisy's scent drive is insane - we had a training session with Seita yesterday and she was going MAD for a scent that was off in the bushes - there was something there that she was dying to go after. We had been training we were sitting down together having a chat and Daisy was on leash but going ballistic barking trying to get to this scent that was driving her mad. I was able to call her back and reward her which I never used to be able to do, but it's still a very strong instinct that she has and one we have battled with - I used to be able to shove food under her nose when she was scenting and she wouldn't even notice it was there. Some beagles are more scent driven than others, Daisy is one of the most scent driven beags I've ever met. She's relatively low drive when it comes to TID and compared to other dogs but just being able to get her working and interested in working is a big deal for us.

Pffft GSD if that is a flat session you don't want to see some of the flat sessions I've had (and still have occasionally LOL) - i.e. me holding food out saying "get it! get it!" and Daisy just staring at me like "meh."

I am a bit precious about just boarding them too I really don't like doing it regardless of how good the kennel is -
Thanks DB We have been doing a training in drive distance course with K9Pro. There's a thread on it in the training forum atm: http://www.dolforums.com.au/index.php?showtopic=185863 It's made a huge difference with our training! ETA: Jake it's a real PITA you can't use prongs at any DogsQLD obedience clubs... thems the rules unfortunately

Totally agree SK - I watched the vid you uploaded today GSD and Indi was looking great! Especially as you've only just started!

I've boarded my dogs a few times but it's still never crossed my mind to have them trained - maybe it's just me, there are very few people I would trust to train my dog and I've heard way too many B&T horror stories to consider that style of training for myself. I can see it would be beneficial for the dog to have the mental stimulation that comes with a training session if it was with a good trainer. -
:shrug" hmmm who decided she should miss breaky? hmmm So Daisy is justified in helping herself to lunch methinks. She wasn't starving though - I did a training session with her earlier in the day so she had eaten something - AND she gets two meals a day so the last time she ate was only dinner time the night before Although Daisy always thinks she's starving

Great pics Jake-k9! She's well behaved sometimes and especially now more than she used to be but there are a few DOLers who will remember the donut incident at a DOL meet not that long ago And she stole my lunch today! She's a total bugger!!

LOL Ams we definitely got a great mix of breeds!! The bulldog was gorgeous! Daisy was a boring beagle

What makes you want to send your dog away for training? Personally I would be very reluctant to send my dog to boarding/training. I know there are some great trainers like Cosmolo who will take dogs on for training, but I would need a very good reason to send my dog away for training. One big reason is that you have to have total trust in the trainer taking on your dog, you have no idea how they are training your dog and how they are going to get results. Training should be a bonding experience between handler and owner and any good trainer knows that training is more about training the owner than it is about training the dog. A trainer can only do so much with your dog, a lot of it needs to come from you. I personally can't understand why anyone would want to send their dog away for training, I am way too much of a control freak to hand the leash over! -
LOL GSD I don't think we are that great an example, Ness's dogs are already pretty good
-
Kathq your GSPs are lovely looking dogs Hope you got the pics you need Rocco
-
LOL Ness I think the whole thread is an example of how good it is
-
Was nice catching up with everyone Daisy and I had a great time, she got a bit tired towards the end though she perked right up when Rocco bought out the dog biscuits Can't wait to see the finished pics Rocco!!

BTW - for anyone who doesn't know me, I will be the one with the terrible sunburn all over my chest

I suck at being a crazy pageant mother, I haven't bathed Daisy in ages I haven't fed her yet today to try and maximise my chances of having an obedient beagle this afternoon, although it back fired, and she stole my sandwich at lunch time
-
Ah ok - just thought I'd offer in case you wanted it for the photo, not to use it but just to have something on her You can always snap the leash on both rings so it's like a flat collar I don't use them myself (I prefer martingales) but I find it handy for baths etc.

GG, you are welcome to borrow Daisy's check chain for the pic if you want to bring Lexi
-
PMSL I am so glad it's not just me
-
Hey Erin - hope you can make it tomorrow so I can finally meet Abby!!!
-
Erny, I don't actually use a clicker myself - I use a yes marker. But it's the same principle for me so when I talk about 'loving' this style of training I don't mean clicker training so much as marker training.

Agility?? I struggle to walk in a straight line for heel work
-
Gooooooo Amps that's bloody awesome!!
-
Oh pleeeeeease come down Annie!! If you can even still drive or handle the pointee in your condition?? :D :D

Thanks GSD, I am really pleased with how she is coming along. I want to do some more work on her SFEs (she is usually quite good at them but isn't totally reliable if it's a complete stranger doing them) and stays over the next few weeks and then hopefully we will be ready to trial
