I was going to say even if she doesn't need more doggies you should come along anyway! I am always keen to meet more lappies :D

New Farm Park is way easier to get to than St Lucia where they hold the MPW! I may be biased though as I only live 15 minutes away :D Rocco whereabouts in the park do you want us to meet you? Or aren't you sure yet?

Professional Trainer To Help With Late Socialisation

K9 Force have changed their name to K9Pro. http://k9pro.com.au/index.php -
Monday is better for me than Sunday. Very exciting Rocco - can't wait!

no - which makes it all the more crazy. And it makes the parent's argument moot. If they went ahead with this insurance scheme it wouldn't include Sibes anyway. Dog attacks will never decrease if the blame and focus is continuously put on breed. The emphasis needs to be on responsible ownership, education, training, socialisation etc.

Yep it can be the stuff of nightmares..... Pug x Beagle = snufflin, snoring little Beagle type dogs with a screw tail and who probably cant free whelp A waste of good genes. Cavvy x Beagle = hells bells, lock up the dog food real tight! I have a vision of a rotund type of brown hairy dog, something like a rather large overweight LH Dachsie (with apologies to all the well bred LH Dachshunds out there). Not to mention how frustrating it would be for the dog to have the drive and instinct to scent but not being physically capable.

Nooooo, no Krispy Kremes, the Evil Beagle will eat them all Although on the other hand she does work well for donuts

LM - try not to think of NILIF as withholding your affection or attention. You can give him lots of attention/pats/affeciton *if* he earns it. It's tough when you first start off with a strict training program but you will reap the benefits in time

That sounds suspiciously like Ashanali Although I don't know if the noise she makes could be classed as a chicken noise (or a distinguishable noise of any kind)
-
I meant to add, you only got the trainer out last weekend right? (if my memory serves me correctly). This sort of stuff takes time, and a big improvement in his behaviour is not something that will happen over night especially as he's going through his adolescent period.

LM, Jane will tell you that Daisy as a teenager (and puppy) was very similar. She was not affectionate at all. She had very little interest in spending time with us and was very independent and stubborn. She was always pushing the boundaries and would growl and snap at me for various things from five months of age. Actually the first time I took her to obedience club I left in tears because each time I tried to move her into position she would growl and snap at me. She was only a puppy at the time. Now we have a great relationship with none of those problems and she even sleeps curled up next to me on the bed quite often and will lie on me and have cuddles. She's not obsessed with having pats or cuddles but it's a massive improvement on the puppy who wouldn't even let me pick her up. It takes time and consistency - we have a relationship built on respect and Daisy wants to listen to me (most of the time anyway LOL! ). We'll be competing for our first obedience title this year. It is not something that happened over night. It definitely improved with the right training and as Daisy matured (she's three years old now).

sure, if you want to get your face bitten off and make the dogs behaviour even worse. I can't imagine any time where this "method" would be appropriate.

At What Age Do You Start Training?
huski replied to JulesP's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
No club can dictate if or when you trial. And if they want to miss out on getting your points under their name that's their problem -
I let my dogs play with others just not when we are at club or having a training session. Training is a time to work and play with me, not other dogs. Daisy is also one of those dogs who is very rarely interested in playing with other dogs. Occasionally I will let her have a quick (I.e a minute) play session with a friends BC but then I call her back to have a game with me and I expect instant compliance.

Jane was there last night ;) she's met and worked with Daisy and I so I can't imagine anything being funnier than that if we meet for training sessions I don't think it will involve any doggy play as I know some dogs aren't comfortable with others and I know myself I don't encourage Daisy to play with other dogs when we are training. But i'm sure it will be worthwhile for teaching them to focus and work around other dogs etc
