  1. I am still getting over my experience from yesterday (Kidding - Ptolomy is lovely and so helpful and gives the best advice!)
  2. Training tomorrow night so if she behaves herself I might catch it on tape
  3. Just took Daisy to the park for a training session. She was not as switched on as normal but did ok - we went to park she'd never trained at before, that was full of distractions (would be one of the most popular parks in Brissy). Ptolomy I think she's definitely got the hang of getting in the right position with the flip finish now, you can see she is consciously trying to swing her bum into the right position, I only had to give her a NRM a couple of times at the start of our session today and then she did the rest really nicely.
  4. So its my understanding that dinner is at Seita's 6pm so you can all leave by 6.25 :D I wish I had read about this seminar before I booked my return trip home :D I meant to ask you yesterday if you would be here for the Richard Curtis seminar! Too bad you are leaving the day before ;)
  5. Oi shut up Seita :D I don't even like maccas much but I know I won't be organised enough to bring food along with me I'm still deciding if I should go home and get changed first or leave when I finish work at 5pm, to give me enough time to get something to eat on the way, considering how bad the traffic will be coming over the bridge at that time!
  6. LOL TN - I don't know how "trained" Daisy really is but she's not too difficult to handle (although having said that, I only have my Siberian for comparison )
  7. I see labs in ring up here all the time! I always thought they were generally eager to please, maybe that's just in comparison to my dog
  8. Thanks MrsD, I was one of those numpties who forgot to write down my email address when I sent in my payment :D So where's the nearest Maccas from Durack??
  9. No it wasn't a private lesson it was afternoon tea and I couldn't help myself - a beagle was on my wish list before I discovered duck dogs. And I'm sure after meeting Daisy yesterday you are definitely not regretting that decision MasonsMum I was telling Ptolomy yesterday that part of me would really like a breed like a Toller just to see what it's like to have a dog like that but there is just something about beagles that makes me want to own ten
  10. U know that ain't gunna happen husk. but nice try Thank you for your best wishes Have you put that entry in yet???. LOL Can't blame me for trying!! No not yet, still working on stays, they are quite atrocious at the moment, and a million other things
  11. Good luck with Dyz tomorrow!!!!! You should catch it on video
  12. I think it's hard when it's your first dog because you have so much learning to do. I think Daisy is actually quite easy in some regards, she is a pretty confident dog who is relatively quick to learn and when I know how to motivate her she's pretty eager too. I've learnt a lot from her
  13. I'm lucky Daisy is not really fussed with other dogs, nor other people much (unless it's Ptolomy with lots of sausage in her pocket!)
  14. That it certainly is MM! Especially when your dog would happily blow you off for smells on the ground just about any time, any where
  15. Ptolomy is up here for a couple of days and was kind enough to meet up with me today to meet Daisy and give me some very useful handling pointers
  16. Yes dammit, but I forgot to spray paint Daisy with more tan so that she'd be easier to pass off as a Toller.
  17. Then I expect to meet this so called evil beagle!!! Oh no, she's definitely 100% evil beagle Daisy probably will not be coming - my Dad and his family are coming over from the UK for Christmas/January so it will be a non-dog related holiday. Although I am sure I can squeeze in a DOL related meet up, if anyone wants to meet me minus the Evil Beagle
  18. I don't think they can get much worse that's for sure He was SO lovely, I swear if my mum met him we'd have a Toller in the house tomorrow Absolutely Oh and I think that's the first time Daisy's ever been called a delight We might have our CCD by then I will be in Perth December/January too.
  19. Then you'll have more time to (attempt to) fix my handling Daisy is pooped and didn't bark on the way home at all Thank you so much for all your time this afternoon Sandi, especially as I'm quite sure I talked your ear off I've shown mum some pics of your tollers and she really likes them
  20. Absolutely! You can introduce clicker/marker training from any age. You just need to be careful, not just about her catching diseases but over exercising her when her joints are still forming. You can do serious damage if you aren't careful - the general rule for pups is no more than five minutes of structured exercise per month of age. So if she's two months old, nothing more than 10 minutes absolute MAX of structured exercise (i.e. walking). At ten weeks she really doesn't need structured walking anyway, playing and training with you should tire her out nicely without over doing it.
  21. She sounds like a really good little pup Have you tried the Triangle of Temptation (pinned at the top of this forum)? It's what I use with my dogs and have since my youngest one was a pup. I don't think she's pushing the boundaries at 10 weeks I would suggest she just doesn't understand what she should be doing. http://www.dolforums.com.au/index.php?showtopic=64101 BTW - I see you're in Clayfield, you are just around the corner from me! When you say she sits automatically at the road, do you mean you have been walking her a lot?
  22. Thanks for the clarification, Cos. Re toys, I've never owned a really highly prey driven dog (Micha is quite prey driven but certainly has nothing on a working line Mal etc!) and my dogs don't really bother with toys much during the day, certainly no more than the time I could spend training them. Perhaps depriving the dog of any toys is more appropriate when you are trying to build drive in a lower drive dog.
  23. What do you define as deprivation in this instance, though, Cos? My dogs are fed their main meals in the morning, and we usually train most at night time. If we are going to do be doing a lot of training (i.e. it's one of the two nights a week I go to club training) I will feed Daisy a very small meal for breakfast. But then I feed her an entire meal through training that night - is it really depriving her if she's fed a full meal on the same day anyway? Or, what if you feed your dog's entire daily meal through training sessions on the same day? Is that still classed as deprivation if the dog is getting the same amount of food anyway?
  24. LOL snap we must have posted at the same time! I just edited my post to clarify I meant any toy.
