  1. Kathy, Your best bet is to put a lot of research into where you are going to get your Malamute puppy from. If you pick the right breeder then they will be there to help you with any and every question you may have. Our puppy came with a binder jam packed with every bit of information on Malamutes you could possibly hope to find - covering things such as training, feeding, grooming and so much other stuff. When you take your puppy home the breeder will(or should) fully inform you about when they need to get their next vacination, worming medication etc. They should also be able to discuss with you what is the best age for neutering. Any responsible breeder who is selling a limited register puppy will probably have a spay/neuter clause as part of their contract.
  2. I will never give it to my dogs either. There is a member on an Alaskan Malamute board I visit who lost his 3 year old dog to auto immune issues (I can't remember the exact terminology) after giving the yearly heartworm shot. I won't take the risk as I and I don't think giving a monthly chew to be too onerous.
  3. When I boarded my two last year, I was in a bit if a delima about their food. In order to package up enough food to feed my two for a whole week, I think I would have needed to supply the freezer as well as the food. I boarded them at our vet and it turns out that they sell the frozen BARF patties. I just ended up telling them to feed them those so it worked out well - a bit more expensive though.
  4. I remember a few years back when I was doing my puppy research I came across something that said Alaskan Malamutes should not be fed Kangaroo meat. Has anyone else heard this? I've stayed away from it just to be on the safe side, but I can't imagine why a specific breed should not eat a certain type of meat.
  5. I used to feed Innova, but my two problems with it were the cost (I have two large dogs so would go through a fair bit) and bying it from Pet's Paradise. I also tried emailing the manufacturers letting them know that I had a major issue with purchasing anything from Pet's Paradise but they didn't care. I now feed a totally raw diet.
  6. My dogs love anything fishy but smoked salmon is a little expensive so I never would have thought to give them that. They get the homebrand tinned sardines, mackeral & salmon.
  7. zee8477, Pets Paradise is the only place that sells Innova in Australia. Believe me I looked around because I hated buying from PP. I have never actually seen Eagle Pack in a store but I do have brochure at home with the details of where you can order it from and have it shipped to you. I'll try to remember to dig it out and post the details when I get home.
  8. I also do the same as D_mentias. Mine get washed outside with the hose. I bought an attatachment so I could connect the hose to the kitchen tap so warm water could be used.
  9. Greenies are bloody expensive! They are about $8.00 each for the largest ones. Totally outragous if you ask me. I've bought them on occasion for a treat but no way would I pay that regularly.
  10. I already knew about BARF and was already considering making the switch before joining DOL. However I have also picked up heaps of fantastic information and tips in regards to the diet from this forum.
