  1. If I died, Amber and the cats would stay with OH and my kids. They love and care for them as much as I do.

If there were any problems with that scenario though (ie they weren't coping or we all died) I know my mum would take them on OR Amber would possibly go back to her breeder (must have that little chat I guess  ) and mum would take on the cats. The most likely outcome would be that my family would take them on and there is kind of an unspoken agreement between my mum and two sisters that we would take on any of the other's animals if needed. We really should sit down though and discuss it and hubby and I really need to sort wills out as we have two minor children too. I

know we would all muddle through and no child or animal would become 'homeless' :vomit:

  2. But why did you ask for other people's opinions if you were just going to shout them done as being wrong because they differed to yours? :dancingelephant:

I asked for people's opinion out of curiosity and accepted their point of view. As for the rest of the thread I was constantly scrutinised and questioned simply because I was not prepared to change my mind! Perhaps you should pose the same question to other posters that were unable to accept the way I interpreted Mr. Linke's statement.

I am really getting pissed off with the hypocrisy around here, there are quite a few wonderful people here but heck some of you are downright hypocritical and nasty. I am not one of the sheep and do not intend to conform to the majority simply to be a part of the herd! And I still do not agree with HIS statement and as for the rest of you, you are more than welcome to interpret his statement any way you wish, I really don't give a damn! As I said BEFORE, to each their own! Now leave me the f*** ALONE and get a life and stop turning an innocent question into some kind of saga!

Obviously, this is an area where everyone can get really worked up and passionate.

  3. I'm interested to know what kind of setup breeders have in regards to infection control/minimisation etc. with new/young litters.

Do you restrict who comes to your house before litter is born and while they are on the ground?

Do you not leave the house? Do you allow visitors (ie schoolfriends of your children?, friends or family with dogs)

What about if you need to take the kids to school or go the shops - what do you do after?

What do you do to prepare the house/kennel etc beforehand, disinfection-wise? what do you use?

If you work with dogs or go to shows, what do you do to minimise any possible cross-infection?

    :D

  4. my ACD Diesel only ever really had one toy as he would eat everything else! It was a black kong.

Amber only has a few (maybe 5 or 6)- she likes to snuggle with soft toys and isn't really into rubber or rope toys. Doesn't chew them, just snuggles

  5. Part of my old job was doing the cards and pawprints for animals that had passed in hospital (ICU or the clinic). I was like silverblue and took great care in writing a message and also getting a really nice ink pawprint (or for the long term patients- a clay pawprint).

When we had to have Diesel pts I later received a beautifully written card from the vet hospital. It made me cry all over again but it is special. I have been going there for years and have also worked with one of the vets who used to be there (his partner is there still - I'm pretty sure it was her who wrote the card, she's so lovely). I don't know if it is standard practise at this hospital - I didn't get a card when my cat died there a few years ago - but it is really nice to receive one. After having done so many cards and pawprints for other people at work it made me realise how much I would have liked a card/print for my cat.

  6. that's so cute! I have always been a spaniel lover - finally got my gorgeous Cocker girl in 2007. I will ALWAYS have a Cocker but would also love a little Cavalier too. Something about long hair floppy eared dogs makes me melt :o

Husband has mentioned a few times now that he would like a Boxer. I wouldn't have picked it!

  7. You really need to be careful about how and what you say, especially if you are quoting 'doggy people' who are very passionate about the situation. They could quite easily go to a byb or petshop where no questions are asked and they aren't made to feel like bad people.

  8. You have made me cry again guys with your lovely words, but they are also happy tears. He was a beautiful, happy, clever boy and will never be forgotten. It was right that he came to us, we are his family.

Thank you all for your thoughts. It's nice to know that we feel the same way about these beautiful souls.

  9. Thank you. I went to work today - probably should have stayed home but I needed to keep busy. It didn't really help, I spent the whole drive there in tears and half the day ;) Very sad coming home and not seeing him there. Everyone is being a lot more smoochy - they know :grouphug:

    deep breath.....

  10. oh Jed, I was waiting for this one

Good bye dear Magnus  what a star you were on DOL and now shining bright in the sky. I loved to read your stories - TBCSITW was legendary.

Jed my thoughts are still with you, losing these beloveds is so hard.. but where/what/who would we be without them having touched our lives.

Look out for Diesel, Magnus - he is new up there and will need a guiding paw.
