  1. Well I am sorry dancinbcs if you disagree but they are indeed show dogs, the Male being particually selected and purchased to complement the bitch and her lines. Politically correct or not, they are a breeding pair....... There are no alarm bells to be set off....
  2. Thanks Kate.! ... thats the sort of thing i like to see,... I have passed the link onto the owner, will let you know if its good...
  3. So the police are not investigating the theft? or they are not producing results?... From what I gather, the police do not see it as a priority nor worth investigating..
  4. berti, the owner of these dogs is not an any of the lists, that is why I have posted them here and on my wall on FB... They have been missing for 2 weeks now with no help from Brisbane Police, Council or Vets so I am just trying to get the word out... Phalenes are not well known and very hard to get... the owner is just devastated... and there seems to be a run of thefts of our pedigreed dogs at present.
  5. These two Phalenes (Drop Eared Papillon) were stolen from their home in Esk/Brisbane about 2 weeks ago. Banjo is a Black and White boy and China , a Red/ Sable bitch, they are a Breeding pair. Only Banjo is microchipped. Please keep your eyes peeled for this valuable pair, their owner is very distressed. The Police/Council and Vets have all been contacted but there has been no results. If any one hears or knows anything of these to, please contact me privately and i will give you contact details... This seems to becoming more and more common...Just how do we protect our precious pets....
  6. From what I remember, the Seminar in Sydney on the debate of PDE did have members of Dogs NSW in attendance and they were able to present facts that showed research and data collected on different stats . eg the co efficient 's of inbreeding was in fact wrong (and litter registrations from Dogs NSW sent to the University for their studies indeed proved this) (just one example) and to this day if you go to the web site, they still do not acknowledge this or any other points that the pedigree breeders were able to put forward and back up.... This is not on their agenda and they really don't care if they get it wrong, in their eyes you have to just keep trying and eventually someone will come up with and answer (and in the meantime the dog as we know it will no longer exist.) I myself don't give a hoot is Jo blow wants to buy and live with a cross bred... but what I do object to is that it is not the puppy farmers or the back yard breeders or even the members or the companion pet association they are targeting and who they expect to change and produce the perfect pet...it is the breeders of pedigree dogs they are targeting, why, because we have a paper trail, an open book and easily accessible... force the pedigree breeders to comply and the rest just falls into place.... Let me go about minding my own business, someone stated that the non pedigree population has overtaken the pedigree, that's OK... work with them, legistrate them but let us breed our dogs in peace and for those who truly appreciate the virtues for which our breeds were established...
  7. . The non-pedigree dog community seems to be gaining market share from the pedigree community. I think behooves the pedigree dog community's interest to listen, look, and not prejudge. I congratulate mic for keeping his or her cool in the face of hostility. Could it be at all possible that a good percentage of purchases from the non-pedigree dog community are purchased with the attitude that it's just a dog, does not require much to look after and if it does not work out it can easily be replaced, hence the large dumpage rate of cross bred dogs we see every day end up in shelters?... That easy come easy go kind of attitude...
  8. I am absolutely with you Christina.! What I can't fathom is why is there so much research being done in order to try and produce some nondescript, mundane mutt that never does anything wrong, has no urge to do anything bar lay around, look pretty or to do the owners biding without even wanting to please.... Oh, and of course 100% genetically the essence of pure perfection...... To me it's just not feasible... what about individuality, will they be looking at producing dogs that come out that won't need any training or set boundaries, will families have all responsibility for their pets taken away from them bar feeding them and giving them shelter...will they be able to leave them unsupervised for 18 hours a day while the family goes about doing their own thing?.... If this is what the pet surveys have come up with, would these people not be better off buying the pull along dog or the robot dog that all that is needed is a new set of batteries when they go flat. As Christina has said, it is not the pedigree dogs that end up causing a problem. Pedigree dog breeders do not go out and force people to by their pups, they screen their buyers making sure the dog is suitable to the family's lifestyle... and I know i do and many many pedigree dog breeders tell their buyers that if the pup does not settle or there is any problems to bring the pup back for a refund. Do all these other breeders of pet dogs do the same?
  9. So they could have an objective unbiased way of measuring it that is scientifically sound. Do you believe the car salesman spin or an external evaluation body like ANCAP (Australian New Car Assessment Program) when talking about car safety features? Who do you trust in more and why? Personally, I like a bit of independence and science to back up the on-the-ground knowledge. I'm shy and reserved when I meet new people and thrown into new situations...does that mean I am unstable and a poor choice for a friend?.......I personally think common sense should prevail. Not everything is in black and white... Not sure what the car salesman's spin to sell his car has to do with responsible breeders planing a breeding.. All the breeders I associate with are aiming to produce quality pups, they would be doing themselves a disservice mating anything but sound dogs. If you are with your dog day in and day out, you have got to know what he is about. How he copes with things and his likes and dislikes....a piece of paper and a stranger certainly can't.... My dogs have good days and bad days just like the rest of my family (human)...... What kind of dog should we be looking to breed?... If your asking us to breed the perfect pet that copes in all situations, perfect genetically and pre programed to fit into the family unit then I am sorry it is just not possible....
  10. And as mlc has pointed out - if something comes of it then this could be another tool breeders can use (if they chose to) in assessing possible parent dogs. I would have thought responsible breeders were doing that anyway.... why would they need test results to see what they can observe in their own back yards..?
  11. I to would be very uncomfortable with this kind of study..!! I for one don't like the goal they are aiming for... To find a breed/type of dog that is best suited to living in Australian society and used to select breeding dogs???? Reminds me of the discussion/debate I attended at Sydney Uni after the screening of Pedigree Dogs exposed.... Where one Sydney PRACTICING Vet got up and asked the Panel "Why can't breeders just breed a generic dog, small, medium and large for normal everyday families, that would suit everyone.... it would solve a lot of generic disorders and would be a very lucrative business financially for the breeders" (her words not mine.!)..... Could you imagine this, every man's dog would be almost identical bar the size,... that would be man's only choice..... My breed, the Sheltie, is a small active herding dog,... temperaments are supposed to be..."reserved towards strangers", but never nervous,..meaning they don't normally go racing up to strangers with tail wagging but rather step back and observe the situation before making up their minds. Past impressions of this little dog was that it was nervous which is not the case, just causious.!!!...They are not an aggressive dog, they are excellent family dogs as they are very devoted to their family and they are excellent with children, they are active but gentle..... Temperament tests, as proposed by these studies could see a very suitable family companion like these little dogs disappear for ever...
  12. Another old remedy that I have just recently been reminded of, is to put the dog on newspaper. (can put a towel or light blanket over the paper).... Having the newspaper under the dog is supposed to stop that electrostatic that causes motion sickness...(I guess similar to those earth straps that you used to always see in the old days on the back of the car) Have it on good authority that it works, as tried by a sceptic with a litter of pups on their way to the vets for their vacc's. Worth a try and doesn't cost anything!
