  1. Well, from a quick look at their petition this evening, they are less then 1,500 signatures from their goal of 20,000.. On scrolling down the first few pages has anyone noticed where all these signatures are coming from.... You would be lucky to find a dozen signatures signed by Australians...surely overseas signatures cannot be counted here? I, like many other breeders may have on average 2 litters in 2 years. My dogs are house pets and litters born in my bedroom. Each litter on average is 3 to 4 puppies for my breed.... Another $500.00 annual fee would prevent me from being able to breed any litters at all considering i already pay for my breeding licence (prefix). puppy registrations, membership with our states controlling body who's code of ethics i already adhere to and my breed clubs membership etc. After 16 years breeding to the best of my ability, i have not had any puppies returned to me because they are ill or unmanageable. and i say to all my puppy buyers, if at any time you cannot keep him/her for any reason, just contact me and I will take the puppy back... I have had people contact me that bought the puppy off me years ago wanting their next puppy from me or just drop in with their present one to say hello or send up dates and pictures of their dogs.... I must be doing something right. .... the AWL is only going to be hurting those like myself, not their targets. and governments just can't seem to get their priorities right...I just feel like hoisting the and saying ...please just leave me alone, I'm not hurting anyone, I'm actually giving a small amount of people the opportunity to own a happy healthy pet...
  2. Thank you...my chair has been found.!
  3. I was just wondering if anyone at Erskine Park today (Sat) came across a lonely folding chair, purple in colour with a leather tag and a big C punched into it... sitting in the shade under a tree, back from the assembly area of the TOY ring... Silly me took off and left the poor thing behind, all on it's own..
  4. Or a push bike basket from Kmart, close woven so brushes/combs don't slip through....
  5. Possibly also, there is more choice of venue, in NSW anyway.. The area I live in has a number of breeders. Next week end if I travel an hour one way I have 2 shows I could enter, or I can travel 45 minutes the other way and there is another 2 shows. These 4 shows are all going to have the lesser number of entries but exhibitors can choose which judges they are going to present their dogs to.... On the other hand, a show that has a full panel of International Judges will always draw big entries, it says a lot for our local ones and the confidence exhibitors show in them.
  6. Yep.!...I had a labour backbencher give one of my shelties a lovely home as well.. He now has ADX and JDX after his name...
  7. From what I have read, it can come down the dog and bitch line, so I would give very serious thought to breeding from the sister or dam again. Have you spoken with the breeder of your bitch and the breeder/owner of the stud dog to see if they know of relatives who were the same? My bitches breeder owns the stud also. I feel it's almost too late to discuss, that I've left it too long to 'wait and see' if they drop. I'd have to say I won't be breeding from the litter sister to these boys, and I really don't think I will breed my bitch again. Start again. Hi Paptacular, I don't know what has gone wrong with your litter but as you know, I own your bitches litter sister. In Oct. last year she had 4 boys and the 4 of them had their testicles come down, although I used a different line in selecting a stud.. Our girls only litter brother is entire and although I don't know what the sire of your pups is producing, I do know your breeder would not be using him if it were a problem.... If you had a vitamin deficiency or not I do not know but one of the first things my vet says if a puppy has a testicle sitting high, is not to have the pup too heavy and to place him on Zinc tablets.... Your bitch was a good mum and I would not be giving up so easily on her...maybe you need to go out and use another line? It's OK to say I'll just start over, but you need to know what the problem was and why it happened before leaping into something else, you may end up with the same problem or some others.... If you want to PM me, maybe we can find out together what's gone wrong???
  8. The book you would be referring to is The Complete Illustrated Standard For the Papillon And Phalene By Deirdre Ashdown and Mike Foster... An excellent book, pretty expensive but well worth the price..
  9. Check out your message box paplover.. ;)
  10. And these same people would probably walk into a store and pay $1500 to $2000 for a new LCD or Plasma TV with it's 12 month warranty, and not bat an eye lid.!
  11. This is my opinion, please take into consideration that I’m not a breeder and don’t have a clue how much it costs you for health tests and for keeping your dogs in excellent condition and happy. So if it’s not going to break the bank or if you’re not at a loss by selling to pet homes a little under the going rate, then I don’t see the problem. I assume you sell your show dogs at the same price as you would those that go to pet homes. (Some breeders do) I have noticed that some other breeders sell main register dogs for up to $500 or more compared to the dog going to a pet home. As a non-breeder or show person I assumed they did this because they then want to make a little more seeing that you may breed from the dog and use their lines. As a child my dad got me a Rough Collie in 1983 for $100 with paper (main) from a register breeder …..I don’t know what the going rate for a Rough Collie may be these days. The papers didn’t mean much to us only that he was a pure bred dog…and a point to boast to my friends … that my dog had Champion parents ,grandparents and great grandparents. Our dog was never use for breeding or showing. I think $100 was too cheap even for those days. We loved our Duke dearly Health Screening for inherited diseases is extremely expensive these days and many tests have become compulsory under the animal companion act. Which is OK because many of us ANKC Registered Breeders were already doing them and have been doing testing for years in order to try and eliminate undesirable health issues (the cost is one reason BYB won't test.) Some of these compulsory tests are not even relevant to some of the breeds being tested here in Aust., but they are tested because the US data base says that X amount of dogs have tested positive for that breed. For me, I do sell all my puppies at the same price.. My dogs are my pets first and therefore so are their pups.... If someone wants to show one of my pups, I can't guarantee it is going to be a great show dog at 8 to 12 weeks (which is usually the age I let my puppies go to their new homes) all I can tell them is that this puppy has show potential....often one cannot be sure until said pup reaches 9 to 12 months of age.... I have had puppies that have gone to pet homes and owners have decided to do Obedience or Agility and thoroughly enjoy it...Just today I received a Breeders Certificate for one of my pups that has just gained her CDX Title...the owners are absolutely thrilled and so am I. Others do sell their puppies that they place on the MR at a higher price.... maybe perhaps they think that these are the ones less likely to be desexed and yes, used in breeding which could be obtaining a life time of work to producing a successful line... The BYB's and Puppy Farms, particularly those producing Oodles (once known only as mongrels/cross breeds or mutts which were given away if the dog down the road accidently got to the bitch, nobody was out to make thousands of dollars from these litters) have made Registered Breeders very wary because it is from these breeders that the BYB's and Puppy Farmers try to purchase their breeding stock and sell the pups for exorbitant prices and promises...... This is the reason most responsible breeders will give anyone inquiring about a puppy the third degree and contracts have now become a common policy for some in order to safeguard their dogs... Interesting to note... that in 2009, There were 33,000 Members of the ANKC Aust. wide...8,643 litters were born..... It was estimated that they only produced 20% of the puppies born in 2009...
  12. I think the thing is that you're talking to the converted here - we all know that the price we pay now guarantees us a healthy pet. Whereas others outside this forum don't know - they think "oh I could buy that from the guy down the road for so much cheaper" and don't realise that they're not getting a quality animal that's healthy and comes with a lifetime of breeder support. I think so. From the breeders perspective.....I just love that i have an extended family through the puppies I have bred and what a thrill I get when one of the shelties I bred 10 & 1/2 years ago comes running up my path all excited to visit me a couple of times a year and its a big "catch up" for her owners and I as we spend an afternoon together...
  13. Am hoping he/she was an import nightgraces, seeing that tail docking is illegal Aust wide.
  14. Although it wasn't my original intention to ask everybody HOW MUCH they paid for their pet, people are obviously happy to tell and that's OK....... I see here some have paid less but some have paid more but the impression I am getting is that everyone of them was worth paying for and would be happy to pay for a loyal and loving pet..... I was trying to find out from those that thought their pets were too expensive their reasoning and why when I have a litter advertised at the going rate I get down the line and comments like "WE only want a pet.!!!!" I am sure the posters here could agree that say the $1000 that you pay now for a happy and healthy pet now amounts to nothing in the scheme of things when with your care you can usually expect a very loyal and loving family member for the next 10 to 15 years..... I am not wanting to criticize here or anything, I was just wondering if people really know what goes into producing that happy healthy pet and would people think differently if they did....
  15. This thread is inspired by another here on the price of puppies.... I have a question for non breeder dog/puppy owners who bought their furry friend hopefully from a registered breeder.... The price you paid, do you think it was reasonable or too much for your newest family member?.... If you think you paid too much, why?
  16. The registered breeder with the average number of dogs would have to have very poor business sense if his sole motivation was thinking he would make money....To start with, usually the cost of 2/3 puppies is outlaid well before the pups are born or sold... so you have outlaid all this money not knowing if you will see it again,.... that's not a good investment... Most breeders charge the price of a stud fee for their pups and sell in line with the prices that other breeders ask..... I am not sure why breeders have to keep accounting for the price they charge for their pups...but your next pet puppy/show puppy hasn't just appeared because 2 dogs spent a short time together and the first bit of work the breeder has had to do is advertise the pups....the mum doesn't do all the work without the help of the breeder....usually a lot of dedication and TLC has gone into producing the best combination of both parents and ensuring your puppy is going to be the best he/she can be for their new owner..... Usually I breed a litter when I want something myself to carry on with. There may be 3 to 5 puppies in a litter, all puppies are raised equally...your pet puppy may indeed may have been an excellent specimen and equally suitable for showing as the next....not everyone wants to show so their pup is a pet.!!!! (show quality or not and the difference between may be as small as a splash of colour in the wrong place, this does not affect the dogs health) Could you just imagine the prices we would ask for our pups if it were to pay ourselves wages (even as little as say $10 per hour) for caring and rearing your puppy from the time it is conceived till the time it is 8 to 10 weeks old and figured that into the cost of each pup besides everything else????
  17. Congratulations to the winner.!! Great names!! :p
  18. EZI-FIND Puppy ID's. OR EZI- PICK Puppy ID Collars and another QUICK-PICK Puppy ID Collars.
  19. They all look nicely rounded Paptacular... Well done. Has penning Portia up with the bubs helped her to settle more, she looks fine in the first photo.
  20. She's fiesty.!...that's good!!!! they should all go from strength to strength now,... mum's milk would be well and truly down, so no more fussing and no more facewasher baths, that's mums job!!!!! You,... try and relax and let Portia take charge, she will do a good job, it's in the genes... You've done well!!!! give yourself a pat on the back, first litters are always a big shock to the system (ours, and mums as well) and you suddenly realise that it's not just a case of putting 2 dogs together.. :D
  21. Just put her in amongst the other pups and don't make a fuss. You really are going to have to let Portia know that this behaviour is not on!!! If she is cleaning the pup then she hasn't rejected it but she needs to know that you won't put up with this behaviour...The pup is still gaining weight and is still strong isn't it?.....Sometimes you have to be hard to be kind!
  22. Thanks Sway.!!!...I should have checked before I typed, I'll go have a look now.
