Had to take a photo for a portrait contest on dA today and the only person around was me So I spent most of the day trying to get a decent self portrait which resulted in a lot of frustration. Finally got this though, which I'm fairly happy with for a first attempt- Canon 1000D Lens: 1.4 50mm Shutter speed: 1/500 F number: 1.4 ISO: 800 -

Thanks Steph Thanks so much CM! My system is that when I go to name a photo, I wait for the first word that pops into my head when I look at it. That is amazing Mag, I've never seen something like it. -

I missed these two photos earlier. Absolutely love this one Mag, the bark is incredible. Is it the result of a bushfire or...? Fabulous action shot SL! I don't have any critique or suggestions really, I just fiddle with levels, shadows/highlights, brightness/contrast, sometimes selective colour, etc. -- Thanks Huga! Thanks so much Ash, I really appreciate that -

It's that time of the month for me and I got woken up early with period pain, so got up and went out to get some painkillers from the kitchen and found all these birds at the bird feeder. Being a true photographer I took my painkillers and then whipped out my camera I spent ages watching them and taking shots. Unfortunately they were taken through glass so most didn't turn out well, but here are a few of the good ones. It completely distracted me from the period pain, too - -

Hi Tlc When I say drag, I mean literally drag the writing onto a photo If it's showing up tiny, just increase the font size. For a large image you might need something like 52px or even 72. Just play around till you get a big enough size. Keep at it, you'll get it! Thanks so much for all your lovely comments guys, they really are very encouraging  -

I've been sitting out there for 20 mins or so each day, I get fed up pretty quickly I have to stand there trying to be very still so I get tired fairly quickly. Thanks very much for your encouragement, I really appreciate it Thanks Lea Love your sea shell shot Tlc Sorry about that, I'll explain in more detail. To open a new canvas just hit ctrl + n (or command + n if you're on a Mac). That will look like this- Enter in a width and height - 300 x 150 pixels would probably be a reasonable size. Then go to the drop down menu next to 'background contents' and choose 'transparent'. Now you've got a canvas that looks like this- Go to your type tool- And type out your preferred watermark- Then go to your layers panel on the right, find the 'fx' button and hit 'outer glow'- Choose the colour of your outer glow (I chose white), fiddle with the noise, the opacity (I went with 75%) the spread (how far it extends from the font), its size and its range and hit OK- Now go back to your layers panel and change the fill to 0% - Now try dragging that onto one of your photos to see how it looks. Play around if you don't like it (hope you don't mind me using your photo as an example)- Hope that helps, let me know if you have any questions! Good luck -

I tried getting some better ant shots by putting a small drop of honey in a few places that they gather. I managed to gather about 100 ants, still didn't get any spectacular shots though. They're in focus, but they're not sharp and they're just meh. I can't believe how hard this is  Damn all the ants! - EXIF data: Shutter speed: 1/400 F number: 2.8 ISO: 400ish? -

Thanks Tlc It's insanely easy to do if you have Photoshop, here's how: - Create a new canvas with whatever measurements you like and a transparent background - Go to the type tool (T) and type out your preferred watermark, for instance Tlc photography - 2009 - Play around with the size, font and format until you've come up with something you like - Go to Edit > Define Brush Preset, name your new brush and hit OK - Go to your brushes (B) , scroll down to the bottom of your list and your new watermark brush will be sitting there Another way to do it would simply be to have your watermark typed out in a saved document so that you could copy and paste it onto your photos. If you like the look of mine, I've just given the font an outer glow and reduced the fill opacity to 0% ETA: Oh, I don't think I'll get around to today's photo, I'm having a really lousy day. -

Thanks BB! This is great PM, it has such a sense of messiness or scattered-ness to it, I really like that. I love it when you get really into something and make a huge mess mucking around with it. I often do it in Photoshop and cover my desktop in crap Thanks so much CM I've been taking photos of ants on those leaves for two weeks and realised today that the leaves themselves are quite pretty :D That's a stunning shot, I love all the monochrome you've been doing, it's so effective with a Dally. ETA: I have to say I'm absolutely loving this thread -
