Bones For Puppies
First Time Puppy Owner replied to pennyw74's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Frozen Chicken Necks, Frozen Turkey Necks, Frozen Lamb Shanks (most of the meat cut of into extra meals) - helps with teething, keeping puppy cool in summer and generally prevents pup from swallowing the bones! Supervise a couple of times to make sure pup is chewing! -
Odd White Spots On His Nose
First Time Puppy Owner replied to jaegertheweim's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I'm with Laffi - it happens quite a bit in labs and gr's - kelp every two to three days heaps I understand. Mind you I can't see a problem in those pics at all, he is just gorgeous IMO!!! -
You know I have been thinking - she may have an iron deficiency so perhaps get them to do a blood test to make sure nothing else is contributing. My GR has pink skin and his does heal quite fast, large hot spot only took just over a week. Or maybe ask them about the suncreen if that is making the healing slower on the nose, but then again you said it slow every where, so I think there really could be an underlying factor - but not cause the skin is pink. Sorry I'm not much help, but good luck!

Hills Science Diet - Eagle Pack
First Time Puppy Owner replied to Sticks1977's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I personally would go to EP Holistic Large Puppy. Now there are different trains of thought about how long to feed puppy food - some stop a 6 mth, others 12 others 18 etc. I have a golden retriever that has had skin (allergy) problems and he is 11 and 1/2 mths now and his food also ran out this morning, so from tonight onward his is going to be fed EP Holistic Duck Formula instead of EP LB puppy. Also I noticed a massive change in stools when I change Benson over from his first bag of Science Diet to EP LB Puppy - much nicer! -

Ok I am wondering Wylie - Lynda said not to use anything else with it - but could I get Aloveen Leave in Condition too and use it at the same time? -

Ok just wanted to see how everyone else is going!?!? The orange tinge between Benson's hind legs is disappearing (4 weeks of washing him every 4 day with EPO) - but I think we now have fleas as well so have changed him to Sentiel Spectrum as of this morning and capstar - plus sprayed the entire yard on the weekend with KO tablets to stop the breeding cycle. -
Changing Medications
First Time Puppy Owner replied to First Time Puppy Owner's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
The Advantix is for ticks, mozzies and sandflies mainly - as I live near Boondall wetlands and we have a new species of mozzie in the area that can breed in saltwater, plus the sandflies (midgies) are horrendous this year because of all the rain we have had The council I feel are not doing enough to prevent the swarms we are getting at the moment :D :D -
Just wanted to know if you should wait till the day that you usually give the advocate spot on treatment to begin using sentitel spectrum only 10 days away. Or can you do it now? Thank you for your help! :D

I freeze all bones - can't swallow then! Also maybe try turkey necks (can get from woolies), chicken frames and soup bones from a good butcher! But freezing not only is nice and soothing during teething but also you could try freezing chicken necks in a ice cream container that has dilute stock instead of just water - fantastic for hot summer days!

Natural Flea Protection
First Time Puppy Owner replied to Greenie's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Well Neem is meant to do tick fleas and sandflies, but then again I have not used it properly so I can not testify to that. -

Has My Dog Expressed His Anal Glands?
First Time Puppy Owner replied to belgavin's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I am sure it has - but write yourself a note or if you have a calendar in your mobile, I would write in there vaccination and express anal glands - on the day and day before just so you don't forget! Hmmm dogs are so much fun, huh!?!?! ;) -
Has My Dog Expressed His Anal Glands?
First Time Puppy Owner replied to belgavin's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
My girlfriend is a vet and it sounds like the smell that her poor vet nusre tried to get of her face for days after my mate had to operate on a dog with severly infected anal glands. Yes once the incision was made, the contents squirted onto the poor vet nurses face ;) :p I personally would from there on in be wearing a welder's mask!
