  1. The next show at Durack is on the 12th February, 2011 starting at 4:30pm.

The weekend after on the 19th February, 2011 is a open show specialty weekend, so there will be different breed shows happening.

Next one after that is the 26th February, 2011 starting at 4pm.

  2. What about just freezing a hot water bottle and covering it in a towel and putting that into their crates?

This is what we did when we brought our baby girl home. Although, we had no choice, she was addicted to them from her breeders house as that's what they used to cool them down. I had to wean her off them once the cooler weather came.

  3. I don't understand why people say they're not for first time owners? The beagles I have met are happy, sociable dogs. Great with other dogs and people without too much effort put into their socialisation (obviously they need it, but unlike the terriorists for example, they tend to be really easy to socialise.

I don't understand either. If you've researched your dogs and yuo know what a beagle is like, then first or tenth dog, the beagle is still going to be the same.

People told us we were idiots getting a beagle "haven't you heard how distructive and naughty they can be?". Well, we got TWO beagle puppies and brought them home and raised them to be beautiful girls..

If you spend time with them and train them, you will have little issue. There are some that are different to the norm, but those are the ones that are usually put to work with AQIS and termite detection as Tam said above.

I wouldn't own any other breed. There is nothing better than coming home and seeing those merry little hounds at your door, so excited to see you. You could have had the most terrible day at work and cried all the way home, but they don't care, they are just happy to see that you've come home to them! It always puts a smile on my face :D

  4. I have never met a tan and white that I haven’t wanted to steal (yes monkey, one day you will be mine!) and I really can’t tell you how amazing this breed is.

God dammit woman, you'll try anything won't you! First the floods, now a speil on DOL! :birthday: If my husband and I suddenly end up dead, you know who to send the police to. Tam gets my beagles in our will! haha. Except monkey, I think you'll have to fight Hilary for her. :birthday:

I can't really add anymore than what Tam has said, except it makes me really sad that those people who have "destructive beagles" really haven't experienced what a happy, healthy beagle can be like. They are the ones missing out.

I have three beagles whom are inside all day and have full run of the house 24 hours a day. One of my three is 14 months old and has been allowed inside with full access since she was 5 months old. My girls have rarely destroyed anything, they love nothing more than being part of our pack. I sit on the lounge at night and give each one of them a cuddle when they come up to me for their "special mummy time".

My girls all know what is required of them and what the routine is for the house. The best thing we could have done for our girls is put them into a routine. They know it so well that when I put my laptop screen down in the morning, they all run into the laundry and wait for their treat before we leave for work. As soon as they hear that noise, they are off.

I can even go to the beach with three beagles off lead, recall them, let them have fun and still go home with three exhausted girls after some fun. We always get comments of "you have three beagles off lead, HOW?!"

If you are willing to put the time and effort in, you will have a loving companion for life. BUT, you must be willing to laugh at that little mischevious puppy that insists on stealing and running outside with your undies. :birthday:

  5. We don't usually receive confirmation unless you send in a SAE and they mail a receipt. Even then, sometimes they do that AFTER the event.

If you wanted to make sure they got your entries, give the secretary on the schedule a call.

If you didn't send a SAE, the numbers will be in the brick building near the bbq area to be picked up on the day.

  6. Does anyone know of pet friendly accommodation that dogs can actually go into the house in, or around Castle Hill?

Last year we stayed in a house that has been divided into two and had a little yard for dogs and they were allowed inside. It was perfect, about 30 minutes from castle hill, but it's been booked from under us  I emailed the lady asking if the dates were available and that we wanted to stay in November. I realised that I hadn't heard from her in December and emailed and they are apparently now taken. They weren't when I first enquired. Very annoyed!!

I've rung places that I know people have stayed at with dogs before and they now don't allow dogs.

We'll be driving down with three beagles, no trailer so they can't stay in there. They are house trained and live inside our house 24/7, usually only going outside to play or toilet.

Does anyone have any suggestions, or know of a house around that area that we could rent from the 21st April to the 25th April 2011??

    I'm getting a bit desperate :)

    Thanks!

ETA: I've searched stayz.com.au, takeabreak, dol, any other option possible that I could think of. Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

  8. The drive home surely was horrendous. We left after the breed judging because I knew there was bad weather coming and my girl was only going back for junior of breed. We hit very heavy rain at the bottom of the range and it didn't let up until probably Ipswich? Then from there it was raining pretty much the whole way.

I'm annoyed she didn't get the one point needed for her title (only reason we went back!), but in a way I'm glad because I don't think I'd have liked to be trying to pack up in that rain that was coming.

The pot holes were just insane. We sat about 150m back from a car and pretty much stuck to the right hand lane. As naughty as that was, I would have rathered the fine for sitting in the right hand lane, then the cost of a new tyre/rim and suspension damage. I felt very sorry for those having to come back through there with trailers on, those poor dogs

  9. Erin what time are you heading out to Toowoomba in the morning?

Serena and I are meant to be going but I'm not sure with the roads and rain. any updates yet.

Abby is washed and car will soon be packed. At this point in time we'll be going tomorrow unless it's torrential rain and the roads are closed. We are the second group on, so no rush to be there at 10am, BUT, I'm sure there will be many absentees. So we'll aim to leave here around 7am, just incase there are some issues with the roads.

    Did you want my number?

  10. This has changed again!

The Darling Downs Kennel Club show will definitely be held this weekend at the Toowoomba Showgrounds. Because the usual ring area is too wet, the Committee has decided to move the rings to the area in which sheep dog trials are held during the Toowoomba Royal Show. This area is down the hill from the kennel club area. The rings are well drained, well grassed, flat and smooth - no sticks, no stones, no rocks, no holes. There is a camping area with powered sites close to the rings as well as a toilet block so no-one has to walk up the hill to go to the loo!!

Please note as you travel down Glenvale Road to the showgrounds, you will need to turn right just before the main gate and follow the signs to the new area. There is partly due to erosion of the roads inside the showgrounds so if you try to take the usual road to the club house and grounds, you will not be able to get thru so please follow the signs.

There is an excellent entry on both days so all we need now is good weather. Maybe someone with higher connections than us can arrange this.

Any questions, please contact Rosemary on 0410 651 756 or Andrew on 0407 372 377.

  11. We stayed at Carrum Downs in September last year for a specialty at KCC Park. I had me, mum and my beagle and it was a really nice room, very dog friendly and it has a fenced area to toilet your dogs. Very nice place to stay and cheap if I recall.

It was about 15 minutes max to the grounds and I think they also had camping grounds down the back. I stayed in the motel part.

  12. I was in tears again watching the news tonight, some south african girl went back to her house and found her house mates dog sitting on a mattress out the front of their house.

I'm sad because this poor dog was left behind, but happy because it's alive and so excited to see his mates. They took him back with them on the boat as the water is still about waist high.

I did hear somewhere (I think it was Rockhampton) that the RSPCA had set up a shelter, but there was limited space and it was filling up fast.
