  1. Thanks for the ideas. I will wait longer to get him a proper bed when he is older. It is just sooo cold here and don't want him to be cold during the day (has a kennel though). He is inside at night so that is ok (sleeps on one of those kids sofas). I just don't want him to make himself sick by eating this stuff. He is supervised inside except when we go to bed. He has heaps of toys (destroys them pretty fast) and the kids leave theirs outside to so he also chews them up (oh well they will learn). I dont mind him chewing up stuff just not his bed. We have had him 5 weeks and so far he has anialated 1 big tennis ball, 4 small tennis balls, 5 dog toys, 4 kids toys, 2 soccer balls, 3 plastic balls, 1 inflatable water canon, and the list goes on. Hope he out grows it soon
  2. I am looking for some sort of chew proof bedding (matteress) for my 5 mth old Border collie x kelpie. I thought I had brought a great one which was machine washable and warm in winter/ cool in summer but he has chewed it to shreds. Any ideas would be great but I am on a tight budget (uni student with 2 non fur kids, one fur kids and a scale kid oh and partner) Thanks
  3. Hi Have you tried K9 Force?? They have a website but I dont know the address. Try googling it. They are apparently really good (I haven't used them YET but plan to soon)
  4. I am so glad I am not the only one whose pup displays this behaviour (although hasn't done it since). We came across 2 dogs (on leashes) on a walk today and I said his name and he looked at me and kept on walking straight past them so heres hoping.
  5. He was a rescue shelter pup and as soon as I saw him on the net I knew he was the pup for us. He is still a baby too so plenty of training and guidence and he should be a great asset to our house (of course he is already). I am so glad I posted this. I thought people would think I knew nothing about dogs but you have all been soooo helpful so thankyou from Lear.
  6. Pinnacle dts That info is great thanks. I am just going to ring the obedience school and see what they recommend first.I have also been speaking to K9 Force and I will be enlisting their help. Your right the last thing I want to do is stick him straight into a group of dogs again and I promise that is not what I am going to do. I haven't had a dog in a long time and I am trying to do the right thing by him so I am going to get a few opinions about classes etc first. Thanks heaps for you ideas they all help heaps and I will let you know how he goes. Thanks :D
  7. In the 4 weeks we have had him I have taught him to come, sit, drop and roll over so I think he is quite smart. I am sooo glad I didn't go back this week. I am finding a good obedience school now so hopefully I can sort this out. Thanks heaps for all the help everyone I was sooo lost
  8. Try again........ I was told if you reassure them when they are scared, you are giving them permission to think there is a reason to be scared. make sense Funnily enough that makes perfect sense. Must be on same wave length. I will keep on persevering
  9. I am adamit I will get to the bottom of this. I am trying to get in contact with K9Force and my local obedience club in the hope they can help. I can't help wondering if it was a one off though as he went to the salon today for a wash and he was in a pen next to another older dog and they said he was whingeing (talking) to him through the bars quiet happily and never once growled at the other dogs. Hmmmm Either way obedience wouldn't hurt anyway. I'd like to get him into agility one day.
  10. All pups were off leads and running around all over each other. He just freaked (as I would if I was him). One little pup ended up with a bloody ear (7weeks old). Definately not going back. Mel
  11. Yeah I have tried posting there and only got one response (from a very helpful and really nice person who is in my area). I am following through with that now but I wanted to see what the puppy preschool was like first. It is just so out of character for him. He is such a sweet, gentle pup. I dont get it but I do think it has alot to do with me constantly sitting there stressing about what he is going to do next or what will happen. I think he is picking up on this and it is making him worse. Need to control myself I am just trying so hard to do the right thing by him as it has been so long since I had a dog and I am nervous around ones I don't know (I know I am on a dog forum saying I am scared of strange dogs Crazy huh)
  12. Unfortunately you seem to have struck a puppy school instructor who has no idea what she's talking about. Your pup is acting out of fear, not being protective. I took one of my pups to puppy school run by a vet nurse whose complete ignorance of dog behaviour was astounding. That puppy class did my pup more harm than good but it took me about 3 sessions to figure it out. I've never taken another pup to puppy class but opted to socialise them myself. Some training clubs run puppy classes where the instuctors are dog trainers and they have knowledge of dog behaviour. I think I did so I am not taking him back. I am trying somewhere else. Any ideas anyone?? I live in Bathurst
  13. I am ringing the obedience school tomorrow so hopefully they can help as he is close to 6 month anyway. Thanks for the idea about my son, he does feed him and train him and they are really good together. I was told to do this from the moment we got him (I would recommend this to anyone). My daugther helps too (she's younger). I have never been to puppy preschool before (wasn't around when I had my other dogs) so I didn't know what was good or bad but I know to steer clear in the future. I really want to correct this behaviour before it gets out of hand. The suggestion for time out I will also try as it sounds really good. He is just a completely different dog at home. He is so affectionate and a big sook. Oh Well I will keep trying
  14. thanks peibe I will try that and see. Thanks for your help Goodluck with your boy, he sounds lovely :D He is
  15. How can I contact these members??? Don't know how to PM sorry Im only an amatuer in this sort of stuff so please correct me if Im wrong, people like TonyMc and Erny and Poodlefan are the real experts on this forum.
  16. thanks for the help and info. There is another obedience school here and I will look into it. I wont take him back to that one. And yes he is (was) an extremely well rounded and welll cared for pup. Rozzie does do a wonderful job doesn't she (wish I could afford his brother). I need to wait til he is 6 months to take him to the other but it isn't too far away. He is just such a wonderful little man at home and it was strange the way he acted. Thanks again for the info I will let you know how he goes
  17. It was a vet nurse in a surgery as I didn't know where else to take him. Haven't had a dog for 10 years Anyone in Bathurst know a good behaviourist?
  18. Sorry forgot this question. Where are you ?? I am in Bathurst NSW
  19. The instructor said he was just protecting me and my son and because he wouldn't move from our side she said she would take him next week and keep him on a leash. He is a border collie x kelpie. We have only had him 4 weeks and got him from powerlegs and rozzie on here. He is a great little dog at home. There are some tiny pups there though and that is what is causing the concern. Dont want him to go them Thanks
  20. My 5 month old puppy started puppy preschool 2 weeks ago. For the first week he was fine (although ran away from other puppies) but this week he started snarling at them when they came over. He would not leave my side either. I am worried as they are much younger and smaller than him. I dont know whether to pull him out or leave him in. Any advice would be great. Thanks
  21. I put frontline on my 4mth old pup 3 weeks ago and he hasn't stopped scratching yet?? Someone told me he may be allergic to somethingin the yard as we haven't had him long other than that I can't help sorry as I am in the same boat.
  22. Thanks heaps for the usful info. I will make sure it is raw all the way now. It is 15 yrs since I had my last dog and only got this one 3 weeks ago. I am trying really hard to feed him all the right things. Will search for other posts now. Thanks
  23. I am a newbie so this may sound silly and please tell me if i am doing the right thing but I just give my puppy frozen veg (obvilosly cooked and cooled). Appraently they have more nutrients this way as they are frozen on site rather than taking days to get to the store then to my house. My puppy hasn't had a problem as I have found one that is little cubes. He eats them all
