  1. Wow thanks to everyone for their feedbak, it sure sounds like it might help her itching, I hate to see her like this... I will order some this week... R & A Im glad I could help
  2. Hi! My 15month old GSD has a bad allergy to some foods, eukanuba and Pro-plan sensitive, she gets dandruff and scratches heaps... She was better on Advance but she doesnt like it... so Im up fot trying new things over time of course.. Does anyone have their dogs on Royal canin? Im looking at the german shepherd one but wanted to hear if anyone had any thoughts on it.... Thanks
  3. GR, Our obedience school does not teach stay, rather she has to stay in the given command until she hears her release or another command, its just one less thing she has to learn and it works very well with her..... just another idea...

    Sigh

I totally sympathise.... While Zoe has kind og grown up and settled a fair bit, she still gets hold of the odd sock or bra while Im not looking, tried to get into the bathroom bin, still prances around with my husbands ventolin in her mouth and generally is still a teenager at 16 months... Today she had a go at the only new plant in our yard which wasnt protected.... my own fault. Yes we have a pile of reciepts and fond memories also... plus the dream that "one day" she wont do it anymore..
  5. Hi GR, I would just be working on proofing the sit command so Falco knows he HAS to stay there no matter what. Start by using shorter distances to start with.. It is a youngng age to expect him to do that stuff reliably.. Only now is Zoe really sit/drop proof from quite far away but it took some time and we had to correct every time she broke after putting her back into her command...shes 16 months now. best of luck with him..
  6. Melissa, My GSD ate her own poo but when I tried to get in quickly to pick it up it just made her more keen to get to it and eat it first.... So after adding everything I just had to ignore it as it had become a game.... From ignoring her and trying to divert her attention onto a ball or something as sson as she went she eventually forgot about the "eat my poo" game and she stopped... good luck.
  7. Our GSD was brought up on it but I found she got the runs constantly at about 9 months and it made her very hyper so we switched her to Advance and are now trying Proplan... Its just what works for your dog, and what you can afford I guess also....
  8. I love Axle and Atlas for boy dogs....
  9. The more ppl she meets the better, we bought our pup to work and OH work in the first week we had her for socialization..... Enjoy your puppy!
  10. Hi Daggles, Zoe sometimes does the same thing... She did it at 13 months when she had a second fear period and got a fright from the neighbours fluffy white dog so she would alert bark alot and barks for no reason inside when we cant hear anything. We found dog poo on our front lawn (where she has no access to) so a dog had come into our yard while we were not home and Zoe went through a couple of weeks of alert barking and it was very frustrating... She was just doing her job of protecting her territory... we got some help with her from a behaviouralist... maybe thats the way to go. best of luck with Mav...
  11. Daggles thank you SO much! Yes Im certainly aware how hard it is, Im sure Maverick is just the same! we practice alot and dont let her get away with much at home and with no kids we are pretty focused on getting her trained now before we do have kids one day.. Thanks again, and big hugs for mav too
  12. Thanks Judi... you have given us a great deal of help also so thank you! she seems to have overcome those 'issues' that we've been working on... shes even coming to us to put her lead and collar on and puts her head forward when we say "walk?" Im sure we will see you soon with your little guy too....
  13. So today after many months of school twice weekly today Zoe passed up into level 7 at ADT.. the highest class... I was so proud, her food refusal was amazing. The tester was putting food on her paws, under her gums and she still looked away and refused to eat... Her recall was great and her commands and hand signals were great too.. Her drop stay was so good the tester was pulling the 7m lead from a distance to make her break and she stayed put.. Very proud mum today!!
  14. I do go in occasionally but I hate butting into conversations....
  15. We had a REALLY hard time getting focus from our GSD until a trainer sugggested when were out walking and sits at the curb, we dont move off (dont release her) until she looks up at me without me saying anything or making a noise .. After weeks of "look, look" and jiggling leads we just waited patiently and she grew tired of waiting and learnt very quickly what she had to do to get something or somewhere. We tried this weekly at training too with distraction and we made her sit and just waited.... Also with food we hold it at arms length and she gets it once she looks at us. Eventuall the dog learns to focus to get things... Now we are working on a longer focus instead of a quick glance.... its working wonders for us!!!
  16. Hello! Im wondering where I can take my GSD to do Agility once she finishes her obedience classes... They do it as part of obedience every now and then but she just loves it so much, I think it would be great for her to do more, not necessarily as competition just for fun. We're in the eastern suburbs of Melbourne....
  17. Our GSD did the same with our new outdoor wooden setting... Every chair, the table, legs everything. We put half the chairs away and used vicks vapur rub and sprays which seems to do the trick until it rains again... they love the soft wood...
  18. Vicks vapour rub.. my dog hates it... if all else fails..
  19. When we got our girl at 7wks she was riddled with roundworm and vomiting and quite ill.. we weren't too happy about it either.. we never told the breeder as we figured they wouldn't care..
  20. We were giving VIP rolls to our GSD but she had continual runs and vomiting so had to go back to dry food only for 2 weeks and wil slowly introduce he back to other foods when we find out what food makes her sick but Im pretty sure it was from swapping VIP rolls too often.. could be an allergy... and i found a white dried up poop down the side of the house the other day.. (one I missed)
  21. I like Bo too but it rhymes with "no", does that matter?
  22. Bo thats a cute little name for a HUGE dog... wow I didnt realise Ridgebacks got so big!!!
  23. Erny he is adorable... cant wait to hear what you call him, and wont he be the best behaved dog around!!! Congrats
  24. Hi BOtheration, wanted to add in my bit of advice on our personal experiences... We were so keen to socialise our German Shepherd pup that we let her off lead to run with the other pups in our off lead area so often (4-5 times a week) that she became so dog obsessed and forgot who/where we were... She now gets totally distracted and at 14 months old it is near impossible to get her to focus on us when another dog is around.... So although socialisation is terribly important I would suggest not doing it off ead as often as we did, but every pup is different I guess... Best of luck!
