  1. I taught my dog to play ball..SHEESHH...i forgot to install a kill switch..so im no good at helping with that. But ...this is how i got her interested. I would bring out the ball, show it to her and I would play with it..speaking in an excited voice. I would rub it around her face and get her sooooo hyped up,then i would put the ball away. Not letting her get it... then the next time she sees the ball she is interested..I do all the hyper talk and messing with the ball and roll it to her,..and keep the hype up....in the middle of the game..stop and put the ball away. Only play for small periods at a time always hiding the ball and ending as she is still excited. So each time u get the ball out its fun time. didnt take long 4 mine to get this right..so start by throwin small distances and then as hyper as u can call her back. and use ur command "drop it" or watever u wish. I managed to train mine to throw it at me as well so i could hit it back with a tennis racket..soggy balls r gross..lol. I always gave a food reward for drop. Never tug o war her for it.. i would end the game if she didnt return the ball. Let me tell u...I CREATED A MONSTER..she would hunt for pieces of ball and throw them at me..lol..God bless her.. Hope this in some way helps?
  2. Scarletm,that was very informative..THANX!!!
  3. Im pretty sure Innova is available at Major pet suppliers such as Petcare 2000.. No sale of animals there,..just supplies!! I feed my pup on a mix of rice, chicken mince and Hills Puppy foods, small bites..and scraps from dinners etc!! I get my Hills SD from my vet,but it is also available at Petcare 2000
  4. im a believer too in overkill...i wasnt aware that it was harmful though!!! My first dog i had all her shots for the first year inc Kennel cough... she is now 15 still kickin..no dramas. I recently rescued a dog that had Kennel Cough,I was worried my bitch would get it too,but my logic told me,same as u immunise ur kids in thier formative years,u dnt keep on doin it. So i guessed my old grl wld be ok. We had no dramas ...she never caught a thing from my rescue. So if it werent for training classes,i reckon after the first year i wouldnt bother...
  5. what about Steve Austin the milion dollar man?? Bionic wasnt he?
  6. My baby starts puppy school next monday. YAY.. Should i take her in a tired or excited.. I know somewhere in between is prefferable but not always possible with a pup. She walks well on lead if she isnt in "hyper" mode...if not she is a jumping bean! Im mainly taking her to training for the social aspect of it all. For her and me I guess. I need to find more like minded people and well being an Amstaff she needs to meet all kinds of dogs. What questions should i ask today when i go to the vet to book her in?... I was thinking do i need to bring treats, wat kind of collar shld i use etc..but is there anything else i need to know b4 i begin?
  7. He did exactly the same as me over 15 yrs ago. He even helped me PRE DOG days. He helped me select the breed best suited to my lifestyle...and then I fell n love and have never looked back. I forget other dogs besides Staffys and thier variants even exist. What an asset to the dog world he is!
  8. same prob with my rescue. If ur fostering, the shelter that homes him will pay for the vet. get an xray done. We thought ours had something in his foot...found he has 6 places in his pelvis that r broken.Vet cant believe the guy can walk at all. We will be happy with the limp from now on!!...
  9. ooooooooohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh................ i will look into that.thanx
  10. Thanx..i always went through his hanrob site. wonder y he has two?

  13. HI all, Can anyone tell me if Steve Austin has a training manual???? Book or anything??? I would like to have a good look at his theories.
  14. Best of luck..i will be starting soon too!!!
  15. If ur feeling loyal and ur vet is doing a good job, stay where u r...OMG..ive just had a thought..WTF would i do if he decided to retire early ..!!
  16. move to house with florrboards..lol..thats wat i did!!!
  17. Mel..PLEASE dont see them! RIP off merchants. this is just ONE incident.. Took my dog to the "vet" as she had a scuffle with my great dane.. My husband being new to the area took the dog to the local rather than MY vet. The vet there says..this is really bad..its gonna cost u $700+..BUT if u do the procedure now..i will just charge u $700.. surgery, night stay etc... My husband rang to tell me and i said FORGET it..bring her home..Im on my way,and i will take her to my vet.Personally i prefer the way my vet treats the animals especially for an overnight stay. So i take her to MY vet, sure he is a little out of the way since im IN caringbah, and he is in Jannali, but well worth the trip. He charged me in TOTAL including meds....$90 he said there was no need for ANY surgery! Let me tell u there are many more of these stories i can tell u too! So go see Julian,he isnt always cheaper in his everyday services, but the honesty, and the fact he cares and all of his staff is well worth it.

  22. Im only new to training..dont want to show or anything, just want to have very good doggies.. I would love to find another novice partner to run things by. I feel inadequate (Spelling??) next to all these pros and im shy AWWee so i wld love to start classes with another newbie and do extra sessions together?? Im in the sutherland shire
  23. Love this vid... wave a magic wand and make my dogs good like that
  24. I'd want to know that my dogs would display the behaviours I ask for even in the absence of food. Otherwise, the obedience taught is only going to be apparent with food as a bribe. I want them to do it for me. Simply because I ask it. Erny, what do u use then? clicker? toy? verbal praise?
