  1. Hi Helen, No he does not, but he has 500mg of Vit C twice a day. I could probably up it to a total of 1200mg daily, it is just more convenient to give one tablet morning and night. When he is really sick, like he was on the weekend, it can be hard to get the tablets down because he won't eat anything, so you can't hide them in the food. So I have to use the old fashioned, straight down the neck... I really hate doing it that way, as he takes so many tablets, it can take a while to get them all down. Sue has just given us some Ipecac drops for when he is feeling nauseaus and some Marshmallow and licorice to help his tummy against ulcers. Only problem is he won't eat his food with the marshmallow drops on it - I think it is the smell of the licorice... I will give her a call later in the week and see if she has any ideas on how to get him to take it. Cheers Jodie
  2. Thanks for all the well wishes... His temp is finally back to normal this morning... Our lovely vet has called every day to see how he is doing... He is not allowed to go for a walk in the park yet, so he is bored and has been whining at the front door... Poor baby, maybe he can go for a walk tomorrow... Cheers Jodie
  3. Thanks so much everyone... It just breaks my heart to see my bouncy boy so flat... He does not even get up to greet anyone, just lays there and wags his tail... Will update when we have anymore news. Jodie
  4. We have just returned from the vets, as Ollies temp went up to 40.9 overnight... The poor lad is really sick, so lethargic and won't eat or drink at the moment... He had some injections and we have antibiotics to start tomorrow morning... Prayers and fingers crossed for him, if his temp does not go down he has to go into hospital tonight... Jodie
  5. Oh, so sad when they leave us before their time... Sorry RIP sweet girl Jodie
  6. Hugs to you both... I guess the blood work coming back as all clear, is a good sign - still does not supply any answers but at least you can rule out cushings... Jodie
  7. For the first few months we did have his urine checked about every two weeks. Then our vet said that we could have it checked once a year, unless symptoms returned... We are due for a wee check this week - if I ever get time to do it So glad to hear he is home and feeling better... Cheers Jodie ETA Our vet did not charge us for a consult for the urine testing as we used to just get a sample and drop it up there, they would test it and call us if needed...
  8. After Ollie had his stones removed, the vet recommended Hills Science Diet - UD. This is a special formula for dogs with stones... Touch wood, he had his removed in June last year and we still have not had any... I vary Ollie's a bit by adding low oxalate veges (because his are oxalate stones) sometimes. He is used to it now but used to turn his nose up at it in the beginning. Hope that the pooch is feeling better soon. Cheers Jodie
  9. I am pretty sure that I paid about $1200 (not including the ultrasound)... Ours was done by our vet here in Queanbeyan... It is a pretty big operation. Ollie was cut from where his testes used to be, to almost his umbilicus... Fingers all crossed here for you and the pooch... Cheers Jodie
  10. Well we had chemo last Thursday, so it has been 4 days and all is well... It is an extra special day today - he is nine years old today... Happy Birthday fur face... Cheers Jodie
  11. How are the precious pooches going??? We have not heard from you in a week or so... Cheers Jodie
  12. Big hugs to you and Kal, hoping she is feeling a little better today... She is always in our thoughts and prayers... Jodie
  13. My lad had oxalate stones and I was told that they were more common in spaniels and dalmations... Hope you boy is OK... Jodie
  14. Another method, which is what worked for us: When the dog jumps up on you, grab the front paws (firmly but don't hurt the dog) and say stay down, as you put the dogs paws on the floor... Everyone he jumps on needs to do this a few times and he will get the hang of it... After a while when people come to the door, you can just say to him 'you stay down' and he will... Staffords are smart and it did not take my lad very long at all to master this one... No he only jumps up when asked too... Jodie
  15. How is the pup this morning??? Hopefully still alive... Jodie
  16. Just noticed your update... The poor darlin'... Big hugs to you both... Jodie
  17. Hugs Bommy... It is so hard to let go Jodie
  18. Thanks for that... I will check out the cleaning stuff at the vets... I think it could have something to do with the fact that it is cold and wet here at the moment as well... We don't like to get our paws wet I left the back door open for him this morning and he went into the new bathroom (did I mention that the tiles were new - would that make a difference???), when I said 'you should go outside', he did... I will keep the back door open and see if he just goes on his own... He usually comes and sits in front of me with a 'I need to go' look... Jodie
  19. How are all the DBS angels this morning - spritely, I hope... Thinking of you Jodie
  20. Thanks for the update Helen. Prayers coming your way... Hopefully Oscar and Margali will be feeling better soon... It is a roller coaster sometimes isn't it... Hugs Jodie and Ollie dog
  21. I hate Macrolone... Ollie has been back on it for a couple of weeks now and it makes him so thirsty... He drinks 3 to 4 litres of water a day... And now has taken to peeing on the new tiled floor... He was really easy to toilet train as a little tacker and now it is almost like he has forgotton.. At least it is on the tiles and not the carpet... I will ask the vet about it when we go back in a week or so, but thought I would ask if anyone else has any idea why a nearly 9 year old dog would forget his toilet training??? TIA Jodie
  22. Hi Erny, Just read your update and perhaps Aber is right and the meat is being contaminated via the equipment and handling... I know what you mean about the costs of tests and more tests... Not just the financial costs but what it puts our furry friends through having test after test as well... Just wanted you to know that you and Kal are in my thoughts... Hope you both have a great week... Jodie
  23. Congratulations on your new puppy. Everyone else has addressed your feeding issues, so I thought I might suggest something for the whining... Just in case you did not realise, the bathroom and the laundry are the coldest rooms in the house... TJ, might be better off in a crate beside your bed... This way when you hear him wriggling around in the middle of the night, you can get up and let him go to the toilet... Crate training is a popular way of keeping the puppy from going to the toilet in the house... If you do a search on 'crate training', I am sure you will come up with lots of information on how to do it... Being inside a crate is also a warm, safe and secure place for little puppies. I too, would recommend a high quality puppy food for you new baby as most of the canned foods are nearly all water... Eukanuba (sp??), Hills Science Diet and Supercoat are a few that come to mind. But ask your vet what is best for TJ and introduce any new foods slowly so you don't upset his tummy... Good luck Jodie
  24. Fingers crossed for the little one... Hope she is feeling better in the morning
  25. Most lumps really are nothing to worry about... Just for the record (and probably why I am so paranoid about lumps) - one of Ollie's mast cell tumours was nothing to worry about... Until one day they decided to remove a big lipoma, they removed all the other little lumps as well... They were not even going to send them away and test them until I asked them too... Two lumps came back as mast cell tumours... If I had my time over again - I would have a needle biopsy done on every lump... I really do hope that yours is nothing to worry about... Jodie
