Are you sure you're not looking at her AP? I would say a good 60-70% of trialling dogs who turn in & jump up on handlers are run by people who are lookng at the dog rather than focussing ahead. Assuming you have done some foundation exercises?

Sorry I read your initial comments to mean something entirely different Corvus. Easy to do when we are making broad statements rather than talking specifics. Yes, it seems you do train like most people.

I don't understand the above at all I am pretty sure I've been through this before at least twice. maybe, but you still didn't answer my questions. Never mind.

How To Control Herding Drive Without Quashing It
Vickie replied to Kirty's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Assuming the rabbits are safe in a cage? They are unlikely to be herding them and stopping them from harassing the bunnies would have no impact on them in a herding nor sports capacity. Are they 100% supervised when around the bunnies? If not, there is no point even scolding them as they will still fixate on them when you are not in close proximity. I also doubt that any toy would be more rewarding for a bc than a live rabbit -
that's too funny AD ROFL That's your excuse & you're sticking to it right???? I was all fired up on saturday night, fresh & ready to run, 4 runs, 0 Q's drank way to much red, woke up in Sunday, feeling like crap, 5 Q's & 2 titles. Does this mean I can justify writing myself off more often ???? Lol

I absolutely will not endorse that Barb! Being coordinated seems to get exponentially harder based on the speed of your dog & Miss Kirra certainly has the speed!

I don't understand the above at all what sort of behaviours are we talking about here? How do you proof them? How do you train for distractions? how do you refine to differentiate between ok & brilliant? Are you saying you never set them up to fail in order to teach them how to succeed? Are you intending on sticking through this for your agility training?

Very hard to guess from those pics

Thanks Jigsaw I'm pretty sure Pep was feeding off Chloes nerves (totally understandable) in the first run. Chloe was much calmer for the second run & did a great job of knowing when to babysit & knowing when to run. And yes, there were lots of zoomies & lots of pretty awesome novice runs too

they always seem to sneak in front of me!

one word....peripheral funny, I just had this discussion with someone this morning. She told me she has been taught to always watch/look at her dog. I told her I pretty much never look at my dog. Was an interesting discussion.

great news!!!!

not pointless at all! Well done RS what you described above accounts for much of the reason dogs run differently between training & trialling. Most of us are guilty of it somewhere

Don't forget a supply of poo bags and remember that you pup can't just go whenever he wants if he is contained/restrained so lots of frequent toilet opporunities (and a great way to put toileting on command if you haven't already done so) also an extra tarp is often useful to provide shade on different areas or block off a visual that may be exciting him too much or to put on the ground if he decides he's going to dig to china Have a great time! We love camping with our dogs and do so regularly.

Fulfilling Exercise Requirements And Mental Stimulation
Vickie replied to corvus's topic in General Dog Discussion
I must be very unobservant. I have never noticed any change in my dogs if their exercise is reduced. Either I'm not noticing, their exercise rarely varies or they just don't act different. I suspect the latter. -
Thanks guys Chloe had so much support. Everyone was very excited for her. I am very proud of them both

How excitng!!!! You guys are going to be great!

Here's the video of their second run

Well we're home Chloe & Peppi had 2 Novice Jumping runs. The first one she got the zoomies & went to say hi to the judge. Chloe kept her cool & got her back, but it was kind of a disaster. The second run was HEAPS better!!! Pep missed the first jump, but was otherwise clear & very focussed video coming...

thanks for that, so can you explain the theory of this a bit more? Why would you sometimes want a dog responding to commands in low/medium drive & other times in high drive for the same commands? Is this a schutzhund technique? I also notice that the dog trots away with the ball...would you want/expect the same when the dog is in a higher drive? Do you work your own dogs on the same commands in both low & high drive? Sorry, so many questions, I'm always keen to learn new techniques & the theories behind them

Thanks MM & TN I think Chloe is pretty nervous. We went to a training club this week for the first time. I thought it was going to be a disaster as there were kangaroos & their poo everywhere. Pep was distracted for a couple of mins, but Chloe did an excellent job of getting & keeping her focus. They ran well, a few novice types mistakes, but overall looked great! Training the next day Chloe was a bit flat, and so was Pep. She's very linked in to chloes mood I find. So long as they have fun! That's all that matters.

Such good advice Allerzeit I am still crying over Zeus sometimes but the ache is lessening & being replaced with smiles about funny things he did. I am finding that looking at photos & videos & telling & listening to stories about him helps me to smile.
-
I'm confused. The dog in the other videos is responding to commands and the handler is using in tug & a ball. What is the point of asking for all that stuff while the dog is not in drive? How & when does the dog become extreme/ramped up? Just curious

Over Protective, Jealous And Aggressive 6mnth Old Gsd
Vickie replied to Leelaa17's topic in Puppy Chat
Great news. It is hard/impossible for anyone to diagnose a problem like this over the Internet, hence everyones suggestions to seek a professional. The other thing that immediately sprang to my mind is that if she's Reacting to dogs in your space, it is possible that at some point she may also start to react to other people in your space. Good on you for getting help. Good luck & let us know how you go
