  1. Running order is 99% done today! It will be on the AFA site this weekend. It is a big running order and most teams get 8 races each day, one division has 15 races over 2 days. The suspense is killing me! Is the singles running order going up at the same time?
  2. Speak for yourself. Can hardly wait to go, I think there is a duck at the Ettamogah Pub with an increasing sense of foreboding.......
  3. Any sign of a running order yet Tigerjack?
  4. We ran 4 teams last year at Dandenong, looking forward to a much more relaxed comp with just two.
  5. Ebon and I will be there. Ebon is the big black lab in Berwick Blitz.
  6. Which model do you have Paulp? I have a barrel/motorhead (DC23) and it's fine. I have a DC21 motorhead. Just looked at the website and they now say you can use them with an extra extension hose (when they first came out they just said they were incompatible). Will have to take another look at them.
  7. I would love to get one but apparently they are not compatible with barrel cleaners with motorheads which strikes me as kind of ridiculous as motorheads are what you want for picking up pet hair from carpets. There is not even an adaptor of any sort available.
  8. You'll have Ed and Molly screaming for him to come join them like only staffies can....
  9. Ebon is a very chilled dog most of the time, he has that golden retreiver passiveness. At home he only barks in warning at something approaching his territory or to get my attention. He doesn't generally bark in his crate at flyball or even waiting and entering the ring, he will even lie down in the ring. When we line up to start though he starts barking like all the other dogs. He certainly has the required intensity, his PB is down to 4.6 seconds but only switches on when he lines up to race.
  10. Ebon, a lab X golden retriver, is my first dog so I dutifully took him off to obedience school. I got right into the obedience and had him just about ready to start trialling when I decided to give him a try at flyball. He turned out to be a natural and I never ended up taking him obedience trialling.
  11. My two labs are retricted to the rear yard and have little line of sight on the front yard but are quite responsive to any activity around the front of the house if they don't recognise the noises they hear. My small yellow female lab is usually the first responder and she will get my big black male to come and lend his voice if he is not already there. I don't know how they would respond if an unknown person entered the yard without me but when I'm present the whole guard dog thing falls apart and they are liable to be licked to death. Interestingly they will often bark at a strange person seen in the house through the door even if we are there.
  12. My white lab after a particularly energetic zoomie session in the mud. I think she was rolled on her back and pushed through the mud by my other lab
  13. 5.1 on debut for a lab is excellent. Our clubs fast lab in her prime was doing 4.4 - 4.5 seconds, my lab X GR has done 4.7, we have a couple of others that are in the low 5 seconds. Most labs are between 5 and 6 seconds.
  14. ;) Someone had a productive day! Can't wait to see some footage of all the agility and flyball dogs when they start learning I would love to do flyball but have heard it's not such a good idea for labradors. Had a letter from our breeder yesterday containing a copy of James' television debut! Totally Wild did a segment on breeders when he was 7 weeks old and he and his litter starred. I'd forgotten how unbelievably adorable they were! Will try and upload it at some point. We have 6 or 7 labs and lab crosses (including my dog) in our club and one of those is the fastest flyball lab in Australia. After the working dogs, labs are probably the most common breed in flyball. As long as you keep them lean and teach them a good turn on the box there is no reason why flyball would be harmful to them.
  15. It doesn't look like Ed touches the ground between the start/finish line and the box. I was thinking there might be some interesting photos from the runoffs What colour harness does Jade wear? There is a shot of a yellow lab between one of Ebon and one of Murray where the dog has turned it head and is looking right at the camera, like it is posing, but it has a blue harness on, don't think it is Jades colour.
  16. I imagine they will be up on the AFA website soon, the only ones I can remember are Norwest 1 for div1 (no-brainer) and Berwick Bladerunners won Div3 (vested interest there) and a Norwest team won div7. I think Weiners won a couple.
  17. Is there any benefit in these sorts of products for dogs? It is some benefit for humans because we lose electrolytes onto the skin as we sweat but dogs mostly "sweat" from their tongues so the electrolytes are reabsorbed. I would think just plain cool water is better as you may be at risk of overloading your dog with electrolytes?
  18. Thats a rather pessimistic forecast, it is much worse than others I have seen (remember the BOM only issues a forecast for three or four days ahead, these 7 day forecasts are done by someone at some TV station or radio station or wherever). A spokesman for the weatherbureau was on the radio tonight saying they forecast 25 for Melbourne both days and possible rain and thunderstorms somewhere in the state.
  19. Yep, they are the ones. I got one at Christmas and I don't think you will be able to destroy them. My boy is a pretty good tugger when he puts his mind to it and we haven't marked ours. You don't have a big labrador, I have been using a kong frisbee as a tug reward in flyball and it is now a rubber donut. It doesn't fly any more but it is a better tug toy!
  20. I think the AFA are actively trying to get it going over there, in the last committee minutes there was something about inviting clubs in the Perth region to express interest in getting it going
  21. Berwick Obedience Dog Club does flyball most Saturdays, depending on availability of instructors (if there is a comp on then there is generally no flyball training). Beginners classes are at 1:00 and 1:30. Sign up is done the first Saturday of each month at 12:30, just need to bring vacc certificate. Depending on how advanced your obedience training is you may need to participate in some obedience classes. Here is our website.
  22. Careful not to overfeed him, it is easy to get carried away with a rescue that you have in your head has been underfed and with all the different foods you want to give him to get him back into good condition.
  23. Ask for Onyx's owner. I have a vague recollection that he came from NSW. He is the bottom pic in the first post of this thread.
