Hee hee! Your list does not an easy fit make!! Just snuck a look on the DOL puppy notices, no chin babies but there are a couple of Aussie babies available, so you chances of getting a pup in the next six months or so might be higher than I thought. Dunnwaren, I grew up in a home where both Aussies and Silkies were bred and shown and I do have to say that the Aussies are much less intense than the Silkies and more bombproof as a general rule, to my experience anyway. Mostly I'm thinking of the OP's existing dog here, where Paps and Silkies etc might turn out a bit strong and overwhelming to him in the long run?

A pug puppy can out-terrier a terrier in the Energiser Bunny stakes. They have all the flat-out business of a terrier without the focus ...JRT x Pugs really double up on that, why do people cross those two? Sheeesh! Most pugs don't settle down until they are three or four, although there are exceptions of course. If you like the look, then really the Japanese Chin has a much milder temperament and are less needy - pugs are very much people dogs. Australian Terriers are grand little dogs and do not have the overboard drive of JRT's and foxie type terriers, although they are tenacious enough if they see/scent a mouse...

I love my pugs but they don't tick enough boxes on your list. The tibbies do tick all the boxes, except maybe agility, but pugs don't have the best build for agility either... Small dog, good for agility, not too much coat, not too "over the top", hmmm. Top of the list would have to be Japanese Chin Number two could I suggest Australian Terrier Sorry to say there are most likely long waiting list for puppies in both of those breeds so you might have to wait a bit...

Too, too cute!! Love the whelping box - boy you start training them young for grooming! -
Well Jane it was Belinda's Nobbi which Sharon (Shazzapug here) bred (brother to Jimmy and the others). O no you're going to make me remember his registered name aren't you? Well he was Rosnasharn of course, and that was the Rave litter (aka the footballer litter) o poop you are tapping your foot...I have to unearth the durn catalogue, don't I? [sighs and grumbles her way to the recycling. Various rustling noises and pushing away of overly helpful dogs...] Here you go ... Nobbi is officially ROSNASHARN RANT N RAVE ON. ;)

O congrats!!!! I think I saw him in passing --- very neat and sooooooo cute! mind of his own though?

RJ thank you for inviting me to Tenties' BBQ! I will have a gazebo so you are all welcome to come camp in it, in return I will shanghai one of you as assembly holder and standby handler - if I am showing the same lot she entered yesterday then I will be juggling three bitches, two in consecutive classes :p , got to keep the steward happy with smooth changeovers... One of her dogs is a 15 week ADORABLE baby girl so I will be raffling baby puppy cuddles!!! ;) Technically, the Sunday show is the Lady Bay KC and the Sat Warrnambool but they are sharing Tas judges and venue. (Except on Sunday there is also a Terrier specialist doing 2 and S/S.)

Nope sorry. If it was a bitch then it must have been French's, but cat shows three inter dogs (Cherry then French then Thorpe) and I didn't watch breed judging so no idea who was actually there let alone who won that breed class... I was just lifting my head up while packing to see what breed was handed the ribbon, juggling gear and dogs - you know how it goes!
-
Thanks jj and everyone - I have solved the problem, by arranging to collect gear, trailer and dogs on the Friday and overnight them at my place. That way I can drive straight to Warrnambool from home which is only a couple of hours. I trust the various road crews will have everything nicely mended for me by then ... :D

Possums are holding a B&S ball in my roof, can't sleep so may as well report these for you: BIG Cutler's Maltese Dog from Open RUBIG Kinderscout Knl's Peke Dog (also from Open) BABY: Dwyer's Pug Dog MINOR: Nielsen's Peke Dog PUPPY: Trotter/Albress Pug Dog JUNIOR: Dwyer's Peke Bitch INTER: Hutchison's Bichon Dog AUST. BRED: Walker's Pap Bitch Min Pins I was yakking and didn't mark the cat properly, sorry. No idea dog challenge or BOB, Bitch was Atrill's Aust Bred Bitch, Reserve Attrill's Open Bitch. Run off Baby of Breed was Holloway's Dog (or one of them, Dad on the end of the leash was sooooo chuffed it was was fun to see!!!) Bit of a stir when the Portugese judge no-awarded dog challenge in one Toy breed, there were at least four class winners to choose from, two of whom were titled (Open dog class was two titled European imports, one a GR CH). The judge was well within his rights of course, but some shocked faces around the peanut gallery... To my eye, there was similar type and quality in the bitches in that breed, but he awarded challenge and reserve there. Oh well. EF typo -
'Happy go lucky", "bomb proof", suit show and dog sports, medium to large, preferably gundog... Is there a conspiracy I'm not aware of here? Why is everyone not mentioning the obvious one? Plenty dual titles around so spoilt for choice... I'm talking about labs. So why not throw them into the consideration pot as well? ETA: Ah posted at the same time and cleverly answered my question too! Who's your crystal ball supplier?

Hello Warnambool people I hope I'm not being too rude jumping in here but I need some local knowledge on Warrnambool please re accomodation for show late this month. Don't know anyone down that way I don't think but DOL always has the knowledge! My problem is a friend has entered the Warnnambool shows & booked in Fri Sat nights at the Surfside park motel only to find that her daughter requires her to attend a wedding dress/bridesmaids dress choosing in Melbourne on the Saturday. So she asked me pretty please to take her gear, dog trailer and three pugs down on Friday, use her booked motel that night and set up and handle on the Saturday. She would come from Melbourne Sat evening. I said no worries. She has checked today with the motel to tell them that I would be using the Friday night booking and found that the idiots had booked Sat & Sun instead. GRRRR. Nothing anywhere is available Fri there are car races or something on apparently. We have had no luck finding anything online. With your local nous is there anywhere you could recommend we try? Just Fri night for one middle-aged lady and the dogs all sleep in the trailer, so doesn't have to be a place where the dogs are allowed in the rooms or anything like that. So if you could please give us some names of places to try I would be forever grateful. My friend is quite prepared for me to back out now that the motel has stuffed the booking, but I'm determined not to let her down. No great drama, if we can't find anything, it just means leaving in the wee hours Sat morn and doing the zombie thing in the ring that day LOL.

Check your local yellow pages for engineering firms. Specialists will be listed under categories such as Motor Body Builders, Trailer Manufacturers, Custom Stock Crates etc. Or just find your local Steel Fabricators and they will probably be able to recommend a customiser for you. or google.... Wangaratta engineers South east SA engineers found one in NSW!!! I have to add that most small engineering firms would quite happily custom make and most of them don't have websites..you may have to visit a few and chat with them in person (with your van). Good luck and let us see how you go!

Last lot!! No minature horse show, sadly, but these ponies were lined up giving kiddie rides: Didn't get pics of the snake or birds or small furry exhibits, or the animal nursery. OH was impressed that he could hear and understand all the lyrics of the C&W singer in the hall! Took three pugs, brought one home, he was too cute to leave behind!!!

local agility and flyball teams were there they didn't get the main arena, just as well as they had plenty of shade for setting up Here is a shot of general public lined up for one of the pet classes. Sorry I didn't get a shot of the white ferret which had been randomly rainbow dyed! still more....

I thought it was a bit quieter this year...there were quite a few empty stall spaces...maybe some stallholders were caught in the floods or scared by the vicroads website? The miniature horses were no where to be seen, maybe they cancelled also. The pancakes were just as yummy though!!! I couldn't stay as long this time, but I got a few pics, threw a lot more out LOL! my P&P is very slow. Dora was cool calm amd collected all day: The kitten however, sat with his back huffily turned to the general public, I was trying to get a "huffy" pic and he actaully turned his head and looked at the camera - wouldn't you know? Next stall over the frozen water bottle was VERY popular with the ragdolls and birmans: more...

Vet Recommendation In North East Melbourne
RuralPug replied to pixandpug's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Welcome to DOL, Tracey...sorry I didn't read all the new posts first before I posted a request for you LOL. I feel stupid now! I will find it and edit it to reference this thread. Come and visit us in the pug thread as well! Hug Oscar for me! Angela -
Hello helpful DOLers! A member on my breed board is looking for a recommendation for a vet to try in North East Melbourne. She is in Ivanhoe but is willing to travel. She has seen four different vets but wants to try another for her pug with a skin condition that is worrying her. I will pass on any suggestions, thanks.
-
Hopefully I'll be there - looking at the Vic Roads website, it is saying 3 sections of the Glenelg Highway are closed. Hmmmmm....... Yeah I was wondering about that, but most of the water was gone late last night - oh well. I will come and say hello if you make it.

Training The Not-food-oriented Dog
RuralPug replied to wings's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
You are not alone, Wings... I have a 8 month old kelpie cross foster here who is totally uninterested in food treats. She is bright, eager to please, tries hard for praise rewards but incredibly distractable. And there seems to be a conspiracy of wildlife that almost every time she is returning to me with a retrieve or doing well in a sit stay that a butterfly zooms past her nose or a starling does a low fly-by or a skink dashes past and she appoints herself to dash after them, 30 seconds later she trots back very pleased with herself and will then pick up where she left off. On leash she is now progressing to the point where you can walk her down the street and she doesn't lunge hysterically at every vehicle that passes - now she restricts herself to passing utes with tethered dogs. It is very very hard to get her to shift focus to me as she is not treat-motivated. Tried toys, but she isn't interested while on leash. What I need is a tame butterfly on another leash I reckon!!! She will still need to be re-homed only to working-line savvy people, but I can now actually see a future where I will be happy enough with her to list her as ready for rehoming. So Wings, keep plugging away, there aren't any short-cuts unfortunately but it will all come together eventually! -
Uk To Vet Check Point Winners In 2012 (15 Breeds)
RuralPug replied to RuralPug's topic in General Dog Discussion
So you think that because ALL possible conditions cant be detected, that we should just not bother with trying to eliminate any of them . This seems like a cop-out to me. Good heavens was I really that unclear? No that is not what I think at all. I don't think I said anything like that? ;) To rephrase then: My opinion is the KC know as well as we do that simple vet checks at shows are extremely unlikely to prevent or even deter unscrupulous or uncaring people from breeding with affected dogs. Therefore I assume that this a propaganda thing trying to counter AL's propaganda. Whether or not it will succeed in its aim I am unsure, and whether or not it would be a good thing or the ANKC to start a similar propaganda move was what I was actually canvassing. On the other issue you raised, I strongly support all breeding stock being tested for health conditions that need to be eliminated from the breed, and that all matings should only take place with due regard to the results of those tests and that those results should be freely available to potential puppy purchasers or persons to whom you are offering the use of your stud dog. I don't see a once-over by a vet at the show as the equivalent to testing though it may have value in other ways. If you are assuming that such a once-over is at least a step in the right direction and should be encouraged for that reason, you may have a valid point, however I think strongly encouraging and promoting testing would be a better way to proceed, with the end aim of mandatory testing where clear by DNA proven parentage didn't apply. However that's a whole other thread... I hope that was clearer? ;)
