    Who Me?

Cosmolo - yay, there has been a massive change in him just since you left. He has his slow moments (as you can imagine), Rusty distractions don't help, but he really has made a massive improvement in a short time. Thank you. The floorboards have been great!! Until next time.......

    Who Me?

Hi newnewf - still waiting for those photos, have I missed them?? Cosmolo has worked her magic once again...he will be the perfect Diesel again in no time. I think, sorry, I know I was given two days to whip him into shape! LOL No tricks, sorry GL. Just maybe a nice doggie.....but he never misbehaved when you are around, just like kids - he makes me a liar. Cosmolo can vouch for me though - she sees the naughty lazy Diesel and gives me the tools to change him back to my angel (still lazy though, nothing changes that!)

    Who Me?

Ok so I've had a sooooooo well behaved Golden and all of a sudden he turns 6mo yesterday and he won't come when told, from one room in the house to another, nor will he get off the couch when told. He was fine with all the above a couple of weeks ago and oh my god, what a defiant, uninterested dog. Is this normal? I mean he's not even a teenager yet!!
  6. The pet shop here is selling the for $100.00 (size of a small bowling ball). Apparently (thanks ness) they come in different sizes? What rough size is it and what do you want for it?
  7. I have a wagon and I had my dog anchored in there behind the safety grill. He was continually car sick!! And I mean continually...... :p Moved him to the back seat where he is anchored on the safety grill by double ended leash and all car sickness is over and he has a window where he happily sicks his nose out. I bought a harness but didn't like it, I know most people use the harness. Will try the back back again when he's alot older but he's as happy as larry in the backseat where we can chat and he's not too far away
  8. Hope I get first dibs on a second hand one as per my earlier post and my thread!!!! :p ;) hesmyhero - will let you know too if I get more than one offer of a second hand one! Edited for stunning spelling NOT!!
  9. Interesting - so would anyone be interested in selling their second hand one to me. Makes sense if it's not being used you get some money back, and I get one which might in turn end up sitting in my cupboard. Hope this isn't being rude to ask ETA: PM me if you wish to recycle yours...ta
  10. I do wonder if any food would ever get out of the hole which is positioned on the top of the ball? Very slow to treat I am thinking?
  11. Does anyone have a "Home Alone" dog toy made by Aussie Dog? If so would you recommend it? if not why?
  12. We too had problems with our golden barking whilst outside during our dinner time. He now gets fed first (outside as always), usually an hour or so before us and no barking at all. In fact he now sleeps in the kitchen with a full belly whilst we eat our dinner at the dining table. No problems any more even if he is put outside whilst we eat. He'll snooze out there until we are done.
  13. 20wo Golden Retriever is on Eagle Pack Holistic. Absolutely love it. He does get vegies, sardines, low fat cottage cheese, premium mince and yoghurt added for a bit of variety here there and everywhere (obviously not all at once). Oh and an egg every fortnight or when I remember.
  14. Small pet carrier is the wy to go! Check with your local vet. Ours will lend them out if theirs are not in use for transportation of puppies, saves you buying one. I have heard some vets rent them out for a small fee too.
  15. Thanks everyone, thought I'd report in. Looks like I caught it just in time. The currash has been great, it is down to the size of a fingernail (little) and I didn't trim his fur. Thanks again. Disaster averted LOL
  16. I am one of them and... My 18w Golden is on EP Puppy Large Breed Holistic and I love it. Have used other foods on my other dog but he too is now over on the EP. Amazing difference in his coat & poo since the change. He went straight over with no problems.
  17. Thank you ever so much. You all have no idea how much I appreciate your quick responses. Off to get it going now.
  18. Do you all agree that I should wash it out first with salt & water and dry it off before the curash?
  19. This morning noticed a small scratch under the collar area of my 17w golden. Took the collar off and have just inspected it and it looks a little like a hot spot now. Has doubled in size, not red raw but a little crusty in the middle. He's not itching it (yet) that I have noticed. Will wash it with salt and water, dry it and apply curash. I did see listerine suggested in a few othr posts prior to Curash (zinc powder) but we only have listerine whitening. Guess I shouldn't use that. Is all the above right? Edited for exceptionally bad spelling
  20. Ahona, I followed the instructions given to me by GL. Diesel is on EP Holistic and has been raised on that so I did not have to change from his breeders (GL) instructions. At 8-10 weeks: He had 1/2 - 3/4 cup of EP three times a day. Also 2-3 Euk pup biscuits before bed most days. I have always at each meal and still do today add Sardines in spring water (1 can spread over two days a fortnight), natural youghurt, veggies (he hates cauliflower LOL), egg once a fortnight, low fat cottage cheese and on rare occassions a little mince cooked or raw. Obviously not all the above at once but each meal contains a Tbsp of cottage cheese or yoghurt. I have never given chicken necks as he does woof down his food and a chicken neck is perfect size for a Goldie to get stuck. Im not saying you shouldnt as they are great but Diesels eating habits made it an accident waiting to happen! I asked for large bones from the butcher and explained I didn't want anything that he could choke on and they have been great. Example: That bone has been around for the last 4 weeks and he chews at it each and every day. I dont have to worry about him having an incident whilst I am at work LOL at 11 weeks he went to 2 meals per day (work would only be so patient with lunchtime trips home!) 1 of a cup EP morn & night with bits added as above (spoilt doggy I know). He is nice and lean and a picture of perfect health. He gets the odd snack here, there and everywhere but I am very aware that he would eat and eat and eat if he could and so far so good. If I went by the guidelines of the EP he would be getting 2.3/4 - 3 cups per day which is their suggestion and I guess they are talking EP alone no adittional food,so much of a muchness. Now if he's looking a little lean I up it a bit, not too much GL advsied me last week, as we want his growth to be steady apparently. I found the "waist" hard to spot until about 10 weeks, at 8weeks he was a little bundle of fluff. Now its very obvious (17w). Well enough waffling on, hope I was of some help.

    Parvo In Vic?

Concrete is where our vet recommended - clean concrete.... Rain can wash away the virus so you are pretty safe on that the vet said. Keep an eye out for poo on the sidewalk and pick him up....just stay on the lookout. Don't let him wander onto the naturestip and keep away from trees and typical leg lifting areas (corners of fences etc). All above came from my vet nurse in puppy class.... Pups don't like much exercise so a dawdle up and dowm your street for 5-10 mins usually is enough just to get him used to being on leash. Hope that helps....

    Parvo In Vic?

I think you might be right, I can never remember all my childhood pups being kept at home waiting for vaccinations - we do worry more. All my dogs since I have grown up have been rescue dogs and I have never had an 8wo pup to stress over. But I must also say too that I would never have imagined in my wildest dreams that a pup couldn't go to the beach or be as restricted as they are. When you pay for a puppy and fall totally in love with them the thought of anything happening to them is awful. Paranoid I may be but at least I know I have done all I can to keep him well and healthy during the 8-16 week period. He is happy, well socialised and extremely laid back, and on the way to be well trained (thanks Cosmolo).
  23. Pomquest, I am so sorry, what a dreadful time you have had. A very sad time

    Parvo In Vic?

I absolutely agree with you.....do not go to that puppy school! If they have had parvo in the vet I would steer clear. Amazing how in 7 weeks since my ring around it has reared its ugly head. My vet was adamant no beaches until 10 days after the 16 week vaccination. So glad I listened after hearing of the outbreaks - they do say summer is the time it's rife! Would hate to get to 16 weeks and have him catch it just before his vaccs. I would keep him at home and seriously consider keeping all the other dogs in too, is it really worth it? It's amazing what you can find around home to keep all the dogs occupied. I re-discovered my back yard! LOL Ormond is only 20 mins up the road from you, so might be worth a trip, or at least ask which vet the prescool is being held and check them about parvo cases prior to going. I know all pups in these classes must have all vaccinations up to date and IMO the risk was worth it for him to socialise with all diffrerent types of pups other than the older dog we have in our backyard. Thank god for our vaccination tomorrow, this parvo has made me a paranoid mess and fingers crossed we have made it through the 16 week gateway!

    Parvo In Vic?

I live close and called every vet around the area. Seaford, Carrum Cheslea Mt Eliza - no parvo in 2 years, Frankston 1 .5 years ago. Parvo stays around for 3 years after being infected, grass, sand etc. The beach is one area to totally steer clear of, especially in summer as there are so many dogs exposed to it leaving behind all types of germs etc. Not worth the risk! After having his 12 week injection (10 days later) I did allow him to walk on concreted areas, drove to the shopping centre etc and that was great with his human socialisation too. Not allowing him to go near potentially dirty areas eg. corners of buildings etc. Carrying him around is great and no problems but don't know what type of dog you are getting but my golden ret. wsa a 10kilo sqirming pup who always wanted to get down! Remember too that if you have other dogs and are at the beach and parks there is also a risk he/she and you can bring parvo home on your feet. Another risk you need to weigh up if you have another dog. My other poor boy has been under house arrest for 8 weeks so far! My pup gets his 16 week injection tomorrow and we are counting down the days to the 30th December where we can take him to the beach & river which is 2 minutes away! We did go to a puppy school at our local vet for 4 weeks having just finished on Monday. We found it to be informative however had differing opinions on various things but definately got some very valuable information. As you say almost everything is closed from now through to mid January as far as puppy schools go. Good luck with puppy Noah and steer clear of those beaches and parks! As frustrating as it is.....
