  1. I think having different commands for each dog would be very confusing. Use the same command for each action but let each dog know who you are talking to by using its name. I guess I have a different command when i mean all dogs Tracey
  2. I find I teach all my dogs 6 of them to respect me. I don't like them pushing pass me or rushing thru gates and doors etc. So from when they first comes to my house or as puppies are old enough to learn. I expect them to do as they are told. The one word I use more then any other word is "Wait" Its very handy when going thru doors, gates, small passage ways etc. I can have 6 dogs all waiting at a gate I can open it wide and one at a time call a dog and only that dog is allowed thru, if the pups break or any dog they are then ask to come back and they are the last to get called thru. It has become a game now i open the door/gate and say wait and I have 6 pairs of eyes peering at me, all crouching down ready to go. If i want them all to go I normally stand back and just say "OK" and off they go. Trim learnt this in one day and its easier as you add dogs as the old ones know the drill just need to spend abit of time with any new dogs that come. Even dogs that come for lessons learn this very quickly. Tracey
  3. I agree introducing another animal into the equation certainly can (and usually does) complicate matters a great deal. Well i guess i am of a different mind set i think Obedience is hardest as you are asking (Specially with my Breed) for the dog to do something that is very unnatural for it to do. The border Collie is breed to do nice wide outruns and to head the sheep all those straight lines in obedience and wanting the dog to work so close is very unnatural. Herding on the other hand should be natural and some thing the dog takes to straight away. Training a dog that has not natural ability on the other hand is very difficult. Tracey
  4. well i don't know about you but i think these sort of achievements are sometime the hardest ones to get makes our furkids better dogs and ultimately that is what its all about Tracey
  5. well if you had one rule to cover all we would have no shows, trials between November and April as here in Queensland we can't hold herding activities between Nov and march. We do have an extra consideration the sheep that are very much affected by heat. So can you really have one rule to fit all don't think so would mean half the year is gone Tracey
  6. Well i already posted my main achievements http://forums.dogzonline.com.au/index.php?showtopic=83493 my goals for next year is to try and sleep more , find more energy and stay healthy and Happy then my dogs will get feed so they will be happy. I hope my dogs achieve the following Abigail obtain Advance Titles in B Course Sheep and Ducks and A Course Duck would like to be close too or have her Herding championship. And also compete at 3 sheep and field trials Cybil same as abigail as well as a few breed Shows Sally hope to get started titles in all 4 courses and well towards intermediate or advanced Rebel hope to gets his CH Title this year and compete well in A & B Courses don't care if he doesn't qualify as long as he goes well. Trim like to see her gain more power and gain her test passes and be well on her way to trialing. and would also like to get my cat enclosure finished Tracey forgot to also mention would like to start competing in Agility by the end of the year if i can slow her down enough and get some control
  7. I am abit late coming into this thread as i haven't been into the forum lately just had too much to do but althought i don't class my dogs as working dogs they will work. Here is some photos of my newest Edition Trim Hopefuly grow up to be just like Vicki's trim but a different colour. Any way this was her first time on Sheep and at 3 months old already showing a bit of Style. Tracey Fidelis Border Collies
  8. While i was in Sydney in June Judging i was speaking to a Rotti Person who was also wanting to get into herding I advised her to talk with other rotti people from around the country. Get a decent number of people prepared to push in each state and collect as much information about Rottis herding overseas and any background on the breed and submit as per the Samoyds did. If any breed can put a good enough case together no reason why it can't be excepted into the herding Program, but some work is needed to be done. Tracey
  9. not so of the judge...........know what ya mean, been there  Have you had 15 Point out of a possible 20 for Outrun/Lift/Fetch deducted because the judge said you didn't do the lift. Bearing in mind the fetch was near faultless straight down the centre line dog stopping 3 times to take the pressure off the sheep that came to a stop just passed the handler on the centre line. Just not sure how you could say NO LIFT Its a Joke I tell you she lost 4 points on the reach of the course did a lovely cross drive and was deducted 20 out of 20 points for her 1st Exercise To say im not happy would be an understatement Tracey
  10. thanks Jess95-06 She did a lovely job in advanced I think the best Advanced Run she has ever done. I was very proud of her when we left the paddock. not so of the judge Tracey

  14. Hesapandabear I will most likely be the first dog to run in Advanced Tracey
  15. Hi Craig I will be there just a short time thou will run Abigail in advanced then off to do as Duck Demo at a Higland Scottish day at McGregor Tracey
  16. GOOD ON YAH PAT be good to see all the working dog breed clubs get behind herding its what the dogs were bred for so nice to see some people in each breed is interested in going back to the grass roots. Tracey
  17. hESAPANDABEAR This wouldn't be a trial it must be just for a lesson as no trials are schuduled till 1st July by the Working Dog Club of Qld and this is at Postmans Ridge. Tracey
  18. Good on ya Perry's Mum nice to see the herding has built her confidence up its also an excellent way of teaching the dog great obedience (Not formal oobedience) and manners. Many a dog rejected by the working people/Farmer would make excellent herding dogs and as someone else said can be just a simple as dog and handler doesn't gel. Looking forward to hearing how your Herding test goes. Good luck Tracey
  19. I didn't see any point in changing my orginal post as stated without the quotes it wouldn't show why people have expressed their concerns. It also wasn't about getting positives, I wanted to make people think about what they are doing and what the implications of what is preceived by people weather what they preceived is wrong or not. it was the concerns of the 15 odd people that have either emailed me, spoke to me, rang me or PM'd me so its not just me. I am just the one I guess brave enough or silly enough to post it. But if people feel a need to throw insults then i am just as happy to turn my computer off. And yes i knew it would get heated but I would have thought we are all adult enough to talk about this without a need to start insulting people. Tracey
  20. I have restored my orginal post because we seems to be back on track instead of the insults. I believe in what i orginally posted and WILL STAND BY WHAT I HAVE SAID BECAUSE I DO BELIEVE IT. Tracey Lamb Fidelis Border Collies
