I have two little toy poodles both due to have their babies on 16th Feb..I seem to spend half my day with them on my knee massaging their little tight tummies. They wouldn't be spoilt Much!!!!.I only have a few girls but they had to come on exactly the same day..man I hope they at least wait till one whelps before the other starts. Its always such a wonderful time but so worrying till all safely here

Just on that point, you are now oh i was told still in QLD we didn't have to as yet My Vet told me only last week that Nth of Mackay it is still not compulsary..different council areas ??

Like the idea... always worried bitch will keep chewing at cord. I cut & tie it but they always seem to get tie off fairly quick. Don't the mums try to pull tape off ??
-
I do exactly the same.I .get the sack off immediately ..cut the cord..stimulate the pup then give it to mum. Never had any problems doing this,my mums trust me ,I do not leave them from the time second stage labour starts till I know all puppies delivered safely .Then I camp down near them for at least three days & nights, just to be sure all well

Sure all is well with her healthwise..She is never normal ..is a total little ratbag..thinks she is still a puppy..races around and plays like no self respecting mother of pups would..is a joy to own,so happy aways Don't know why I am surprised with her doing something weird..that's her
-
That is gorgeous.............she is doing because she can!! Maybe she was wondering what all the fuss about it is with the pups and thought she would check it out. I dont think you can stop her without upsetting the apple cart so to speak. She only has a few more weeks before weaning and it eventually dries up, so dont worry. Yes have to laugh..good way to stop mum being run down.. haha.. Have milk will travel must try to get photo
-
No she has not started to wean them ..THey will not even attempt to eat solids or my normal milky porridge yet... Mum always apears to have no milk so her boobs certainly arn't sore
-
Had a shock and a laugh today..walked into the room where my first time mum toy poodle was feeding her pups..was tidying up and then heard funny slurping noise. Looked around and there was mum bending around .. sucking an available boob ..pups were happy on the others.....3 Pups all fat and healthy.one month old ...mother certainly not lacking for food or drink !!! Has anyone else had their bitch do this ??? How in the world can I stop it ..can't supervise at night

Will be very interested to know how he comes through after his operation. My 12 mth old Toy poodle had the same operation several months ago but poor boy is very ,very, lame on that leg now.He is his own worse enemy though. as he loves to run Has been on Glucosomine and weekly cartrogen injections, don't quite know where to go next. He also has a luxating patella on his other knee,so far it's not worrying him.

Dexter Has Sore Legs.. Update After Vet Visit
redkidsmum replied to Cosmolo's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I am glad you are getting Dexter checked,Not sure of what heriditary problem you breed has but I have had two Toy poodles go lame at that age.One had Legge- Perthe disease which was not diagnosed correctly for 4 months. She was operated on at 12 mths and is fully recovered. My other bigger Toy/Mini poodle has two Luxating pattella's plus a torn crutial ligament.Has been operated on but sadly is very very lame. he is only one year old also. -
Yes I am getting a replacement from the same line breeding but he is already one year old and has already sired lovely pups.Deceided on the older boy rather than a pup as at least I know he has no hip ot leg faults. I think you missed the point, the problem is already in the pesons lines.Just beacause your new dog has good legs does'nt mean puppies from him will. It will pop up again, that is the nature of genetics.Do you want someone to go through what you already have? But more importantly produce a pup that will live alife of pain? Don't want to come across as picky, but i see so many badly breed dogs, why add to it when you have the knowledge and can do something about it now. Have certainly looked into it with his breeder!!.The stud dog has been around a long time with no problems.Suspect problem must be from the bitch.New dog is from different dam line entirely, Sometimes s**t just happens with dogs or people Last thing I would want is to see another lovely very much loved pup have my boys problem.

Yes I am getting a replacement from the same line breeding but he is already one year old and has already sired lovely pups.Deceided on the older boy rather than a pup as at least I know he has no hip ot leg faults. Do some research on Patellas & health issues. The related boy from the same lines can still carry even if he is not showing the fault. The fact that he has already sired lovely pups does not mean that the pups patellas will be sound. Most breeders do not keep contact with puppy buyers to check a year later that all is well. They can be fine at 8 weeks & way out at 8 months. There was some good info in Breeders Community on this forum a few months ago. Search the topic. One should try not to breed from a line with a known fault, thats anything other than very minor. Luxating patella is crippling, not minor. Thanks for you advice. The related line is from a sire who has been bred from a long, long time and is well known.New boy is from Entirely different dam, I suspect she might be the carrier as my boy has thrown to her.He actually grew much too big for a toy . at least I will know the new boy is the right height and has no problems himself.

Hi,My Toy poodle is only 12mths old and Ruptured a cruciate ligament. He also has Luxating Patellas on both hind legs so worried the other knee will go also.He has had his operation a few months ago on the ligament and kneecap but is still very very lame and has trouble rising from rest.Hard to know if the op has made it worse?? He is not overweight but he is his own worse enemy as despite the pain loves to run !!!! .He is on glucosomine daily and the vet is now trying weekly injections of Cartrophen??? He was to be my new stud boy, that wish fell in a big heap ;) Have had him steralized ,then his big op,poor boy has not had a good start in life but we love him heaps and he is the nicest natured boy you could wish for.

Hi,My toy poodle was diagnosed with Legge Perthes at 10 mths. She had been in pain since 6mths and using her leg less and less .had taken her to the vets several times and even though she showed all signs and was at the age and breed to suspect this disease it was not found .A different practice found it in two minutes ;) Anyway she had the full removal of top of her femur.I Was taught to do physio on her after the op and swam her in the pool till she was weight bearing well. .Kept her on glucosomine for several years At three now you would not know she had ever had it done.Just never got full size muscle back in her leg as it had withered away in the time the vet did not find disease.I know small dogs addapt to the surgery very well I beleive bigger breeds need the Femur ball replaced. Good luck ,it's awfull to see our beloved pets in pain

Thank you for your advice,he is on glucosomine as well as the injections. What is Joint Guard????
-
He had the patella repaired when the vet did his crutial ligament. My worry is the other patella is the worse one,so far it is holding well

Hi all this is my first try at posting. I have a lovely boy toy poodle that I was going to use for my small stud but unforfunately he has luxating patella's in both hind legs so had him sterilised.(Breeder is replacing him at a later date)He also had a crutial ligament go which he had opperated on several months ago. Has become very lame since ,took him back to the vet who said the ligament is still intact but he has bad arthritis. He is only 12 mths old !! Vet has started him on weekly injections of CARTROPHEN for a month and has said my boy will probably need monthly injections for the rest of his life.Have any other breeders had this treatment and if so what relults.
