  1. Yes. Moreton Bay Regional Council holds $10 m/c days regularly. Give them a call.
  2. They are agents for JetPets. We have had a few of our dogs stay a night there before flying to new homes. I couldn't tell you what they are like, because I have never been there.
  3. In my experience, dogs can take a few days to a few weeks to adjust to this sort of thing. We are renovating, so have been living and sleeping in different rooms at different times over the last two years. You need to encourage them to be in rooms that were previously off-limits, and encourage them out of the spaces they are used to being in. Coconut seems to show a little anxiety when things are strange in her environment, but she does settle.
  4. Don't be surprised to hear a little yelping from the backyard.
  5. I would expect him to feel hot somewhere else later tonight or tomorrow.
  6. I am not sure what you want from this thread. It sounds like you know her better than us. It sounds highly likely she will obtain more animals, so if you suspect any cruelty call the RSPCA. Call the police if you suspect domestic violence. I see no sense in further involvement.
  7. They may be trying to catch him. It takes time to collect evidence. They cannot do a thing without sound evidence. Keep on the GRV and RSPCA's backs about it, but be patient too. And do not get involved with the family and their dramas.
  8. Nor do I so perhaps you can point out where I made mention of that? No, I won't be going through your posts and pointing out things you have mentioned. It isn't about you. Perhaps you could do it, if you were bored and wanted to bore everyone again else too.
  9. My personal belief, GM, is that people who do that sort of thing actually enjoy it, they get a sense of satisfaction in seeing defenceless animals being torn to shreds! May they end up the same!!! Some do, but it is probably best if I don't keep swearing. I remember the RSPCA set up a sting in QLD about 8 years ago, and a family got done for using live chickens. That caused a stir and many people changed to the "RSPCA approved" method of humanely killing the chook before tying it to the arm. I call it "Chook on a stick." There are still much more effective ways to train, but Chook on a Stick does provide an intermittent reward in the form of a food snack.
  10. That the OP wanted something cheaper has nothing to do with the site. You believe it to be bagged and that it's fair value for money; clearly from other people's posts, they believe there are cheaper alternatives. That is fine. So why do we get the "Ohh, you are so nasty to noobie" brigade thing happening then? I don't care how long Kazzie has been posting.
  11. The OP was flogged as soon as she posted that she wanted to get cheaper neckbands for her puppies. That was before she said she wasn't a registered breeder. Flogging is the prime DOL sport for some people. To the OP: Yes, you should be a registered breeder. If you want to do this again, see if you can find a mentor in your breed and learn about genetics, health testing and the best way to go about breeding registered dogs. Good luck. Yes. A business that sponsors this site was bagged, unfairly in my view, because I have done a comparison on Whelping Supplies, and believe it to be fair value for money. Because this is a discussion forum and not a soap box, I felt the need to put forward my view. Ok with everyone else?
  12. Ok, sorry K, thanks for explaining. Saying that a Greyhound needs to be blooded to make it a good race dog is like saying that a Jack Russell Terrier needs to be given rats to kill to make it a good fly-ball dog. The people that do it are pretty moronic, as well as being very cruel.
  13. The reason health checking is done to the standards that they are, is to try to prevent the heartbreaking scenario of pups having horrible diseases like hip displasia. So by not doing all the proper tests, not only do you risk breeding more dogs with the disease, you may be legally liable if the new owner starts to get unhappy about the cost of treatment, because you did nothing to test the dogs for hip displasia, when very specific tests are available. There is nothing stopping you getting both parents dogs hip scored now. Will you be doing that? Or will the pup buyers just have to take a punt?
  14. If you don't have enough colours for all the pups, you can put black stripes (use non-toxic marker) on some of the collars. That way you can identify all the pups very easily at a distance.
  15. Because when you buy a product sold specifically for a purpose, there is an implied assurance that it is safe to use. Besides that, I have done a price comparison in the past, Whelping Supplies are not too expensive.
  16. They sometimes do if you want to accurately record the pups' birth weight. But better late than never.
  17. We don't assume the worst of people. We assume that everyone will do the best thing and be fully prepared for a litter of pups before they arrive. And then sometimes we get disappointed. I don't think Whelping Supplies is too expensive all things considered.
  18. Try this company. Whelping Supplies
  19. What? Greyhounds don't need to be 'blooded' any more than your whippets do. The closeness or otherwise of your relationship with your dog is irrelevant. It's just bullshit. And just because PercyK runs into a silly, ignorant loud-mouthed cow has never bothered to learn about the proper way to train dogs, doesn't mean what she says is true. There are far more effective and reliable ways to get a dog chasing than to 'blood' it. But instead we get scum trying to justify the practice. It is cruel and totally inexcusable. And the people that talk about it and say it's necessary should have their filthy mouths washed out.
  20. It is uncommon. Had hundreds of bitches desexed at ages between 18 months and 9 years of age and never noticed this, and we document any negative behaviour. The worst bitch aggression I have seen was with entire bitches. I would be having her checked for soreness too. But it is to be expected that bitches behaviour to change towards other dogs as they mature, whether desexed or not.
  21. They are not carnivores, they are not vegan though, they enjoy a can of whipped cream.
  22. Rats are omnivores as well so let those poor little buggers have a TVP free diet. Oh. Well they can get a pet giant vegetarian cockroach and name it Crawly.
  23. Yes, we get that. Four of us get 1/4 beast each, butchered to order. It works out much cheaper than buying supermarket meat. The meat in our freezer was walking around less than two days before it got there. As for vegans. Buy a pet rat. Or, leave some of your mung beans and lentils out on the bench, and a rat will find you. Leave dogs alone.
  24. Well when you work out what you are talking about, please let us know and we can reply more appropriately I'd like to know what you're talking about as well. As you said, you cant explain it any better. Best stop now I think. To the OP - yeah it gets a bit tough when your pooches are going under GA but as others said, they bounce back. It's OK to worry about them. Cheer yourself up by posting some photos of the little dude. Lucy's Mama was merely just trying to say that she felt the same feelings as the OP, as being a woman, she had maternal urges, so there was a part of her that felt guilty of depriving her dog of the maternal instinct to breed. But she explained that she knew that wasn't logical and the dog didn't feel that, but didn't stop the thought entering her mind. Still doesnt make sense. A dog doesnt think - oh noessss, I'm about to go under the knife and wont be able to have babies. Or does it? I dont know. Maybe ask the cute little latino in your siggy. It isn't logical, because even if dogs did feel the same emotions as people, and have an understanding of the ramifications of sterilisation, there are plenty of females that still don't want to have kids. Maybe instead of feeling guilty you can feel happy that your pet won't ever get saggy boobs or be annoyed by their whingy kids.
