Reccomend Me A Better Grooming Regime?
Luke W replied to Rorschach's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
No tips on grooming, I'll let the pros handle that one. But I do know that cockers (especially golds and blacks), once they are clipped often go 'woolly' and loose the silky straight look. Desexing is rumoured to contribute too. Maybe it's part genetics and part being clipped? -
Just send her the JPEGs.

i haven't noticed.. but it's lighter in colour? If Barkly get a case of the soft poos - he will do the same thing - I've assumed it's because his anal glands aren't emptying properly. A nice meal of chicken frames usually fixed him up If you are concerned - a quick trip to the vet is probably best.

Has his poo been softer than usual?

I popped along to the Agility Dog Club of Victoria - Easter 2009 Agility Trial. It was held at Crofts Reserve in Altona on Easter Saturday and Sunday. I took a few photos. Photos here: http://www.lukewilby.com/gallery/?g2_itemId=14368 I was a bit disappointed. I struggled to find good angles with nice clean backgrounds. Plus - I had family with me so I had to keep them company too. They are my excuses anyway. Cross Posted in Photos.

I'm trying to do both. Barkly heels on both sides At the moment, I'm doing obedience stuff and agility foundation stuff. I try to keep everything fun. There are dogs that have titles in both agility and obedience. I want Obedience Champion and Agility Champion.

That's cool! I watched the hop at :28 a few times before I realised what was going on! ;)

Well done everyone - and a special well done to Cosmo - That's some awesome shaping!
-
Thanks - I didn't know that - I've taught Barkly to finish.
-
Nice! When trialling, do you return around your dog like that or does the dog return to heal?
-
Yes - discard the macro capability and you have two very similar lenses. The non-macro lens has a wider maximum aperture (2.0 vs 2.8),

Can somebody please tell me why you need to put dogs in crates at home. We have had dogs since and mid 1970's and been breeding since the mid 1980's and we don't own a crate. Yes OK when the puppy we are keeping from a litter comes to live indoors with us there a few accidents, but they soon learn to follow the adults and go outside to wee and poo. After a short period of adjustment on the puppy's behalf we all live together happily, so WHY shut puppies in crates?? Pam I can only speak for myself... I don't need to put my dog in a crate. - my dog loves his crate - when at agility or obedience trials, it's a convenient place for the dog to get away from it all - it keeps him from getting up to mischief when I need him out of the way - being comfortable in his crate makes air travel easier on him - it makes toilet training easier - no accidents - a crate is just a small laundry You think it's cruel right?

Dog 1 : Husband 0 Get a pen and set it up in the bedroom with the husband.

Is that fair? What would you offer/expect? I think it's perfectly reasonable and fair. If the person would agree to these terms - then it's the ideal situation. If they want the high res copies, then I guess it becomes a matter of how much to you want to have that dog in your portfolio. I've given out hi-res copies once or twice before...With a signed contract that says they can be used for private, personal use only.

Slap your forehead moments... Umm, the major one that comes to mind.. Take photos of Barkly down the beach, beautiful morning, blue sky, flat blue water, clean white sand, brand new white sneakers to chew on...fantastic photos! Go back to the car, place camera on ground next to car, put Barkly in car, drive home. Notice anything? Yup, camera still sitting on ground. 20D, 70-200 2.8 IS, memory card...and the photos!!!! Went back to the spot, camera gone. D'OH. . . . . . Thanks dog for insurance.

Click stick is fine. (it's one of those telescoping ones right?). A little bulky but still fine. Otherwise - you can buy clickers online - http://www.ozpetshop.com.au/index.php/cPat...0r1ab29knovehl5 http://www.ozpetshop.com.au/index.php/cPat.../sort/2a/page/2 -
That's the only way to do it, really. Ummm no - then it's posed, it's portraiture, (available light). But not street, not candid, not photo-journalism. And how difficult (impossible) it'd be to get permission from the Anzac Day marchers as they go by, or a small crowd-scene of people watching the march. And you'd have to forego city-life shots like a group boarding a tram or patting a police horse. My comment was in response to Rocco1's friend's style of photography. Furthermore, posing/portraiture and street photography/photojournalism are not mutually exclusive. You can go up to a fruit-seller and take a photo upfront, eyes to camera and all, and that would still be street photography. The only kind of truly candid and unposed shots, puristically (is that a word?) speaking, are either papparazzi-type voyeuristic telephoto shots, performance/sports/etc, or live news as it's breaking. In terms of street/people photography, in a documentary but non-news sense, the proper way is to ask your subject for permission. 'Asking for permission' doesn't always have to be verbal - it can be much more subtle like making eye contact, lifting your camera and suggesting it with the cock of the head/raise of the brow/pointing, or by making it very obvious that you're about to take a person's photo but giving the person time to object to it*. If it is a special or unrepeatable moment where you don't have time to check, then asking for permission afterwards is an option. If the person is your 'shot'#, like in the case of Rocco1's friend, then the only right thing to do, imo, is to ask for their permission^. *There are situations where permission can be 'assumed', such as a public procession like the Anzac Day marches or Mardi Gras, or even rallies/riots. It is a major event/spectacle that participants know will watched and photographed/recorded by the media as well as members of the public #As opposed to more general shots of a particular scene such as a group of people boarding a tram ^That's also why the papparazzi are so reviled by celebrities and real photojournalists alike I disagree with this - strongly The proper way is to NOT ask for permission. I think it's perfectly acceptable to stand on a street corner and take photos of the goings on - without any permission what so ever. That is the essence of streed photography imo - totally candid, unposed. Bresson, Winogrand, etc... A street photographer has to overcome shyness and just snap away like he belongs. No long telephoto lens - a 50mm or shorter. I've done some street photography before. The easiest method is to simply plonk yourself somewhere and start snapping away - after a while people start to ignore you and get on with their lives. I think we, as photographers (and society in general), risk loosing some important historical records if we allow true candid street photography to disappear. My 2c.

I will - your advice of patience has worked so far! It is just hard because I feel terrible that my poor husband gets no sleep an my poor dog is not happy! I'll report back in a day or two. Hopefully other forum readers with a similar problem will benefit from knowing whether the virtue of patience is worthwhile!
